Description
Welcome to Red Terra.

You always liked exploring old, haunted places. So when you heard about this abandoned planet on the fringes of the galaxy, it was a no-brainer to check it out for yourself.

Some bipedal intelligent species definitely lived here, but few artefacts remain in this desolate red expanse. What happened to them?

There's a tower in the distance. You've seen nuclear reactors before, but none so bulky.

Well... what else to do but venture in?

01 - The Approach: The game's title theme. You observe the planet from above, ready to land.

02 - Hike in Rolling Red: You adventure through the endless fields, picking up any interesting evidence you can find.

03 - Respite in Red: You take a moment to camp out in the fields and rest.

04 - The Reactor: The nuclear reactor is even more impressive from up close. You delve into the gigantic structure.

05 - Respite in Reactor: You find a comfortable room in the reactor and rest.

Composed with Reaper. Cover art is a collaboration between me and heygrogan.

Great job; I can definitely picture myself exploring dead worlds while listening to this. I like the retro video game vibe created by that choice of old fashioned synths.

  • I really like the groove on "Hike in Rolling Red," and that bass is incredible.
  • "The Reactor" is really cool, so alien, i liked the steam SFX and the tech vibe.
  • "Respite in Reactor" sounds nice, good sounds and melody.

Thank you!

Really like this one! Compositions are nice but I feel like the synths feel like they're coming from a toy but thats more of a matter of taste then anything.

Developer

Glad you liked it, and thanks for the feedback!

very, very, interesting..  i really like the sound selection in these songs

though i think most of the tracks sound pretty empty and the whole ost could've been a little louder

Wing ding gaster is that you?

Thank you for the feedback!

The Approach: This has a GameBoy Advance type of sound to it which was my first handheld system. I really like the unison melody and bass. I think it sets up the rest of the OST well.

Hike in Rolling Red: This is some fun exploration music! A highlight for me is the melody that is first introduced at about the 1-minute mark. I loved the richness of the chords at this part and when you repeated the melody, it felt perfectly placed! This is my favorite track from your OST!

Respite in Red: I like how the sense of movement and direction is halted here. It feels more static which aligns with an area of respite, but there is still an ominous feeling present like there is something waiting beyond sight.

The Reactor: This is a really cool track. The beat and intricate time signature are particularly well executed. Ooo, I also love that modulation at 1:26! That was definitely the highlight of this track for me!

Respite in Reactor: Very nice adaptation of the previous “Respite” theme to fit the new environment.

I think both Hike in Rolling Red and The Reactor are the jewels of your OST which would fit very well in a small futuristic retro (is that an oxymoron?) space exploration game. Good work on this and thank you for sharing your music!

Love how you immediately set the tone for your soundtrack with the first few sounds. The way you have such a clear style and sound, while keeping it varied and fun is fantastic! Thanks for sharing!

Developer

Aaaaa thank you! Glad you enjoyed.

really cool choices made in instrumentation in this submission! your building of melodic lines are well done. i'd encourage you to experiment with harmonies in your composition to add more depth - parallel thirds & sixths always sound wonderful! that's more of a minor piece of feedback, as this submission is pretty solid overall. I really enjoyed "The Reactor!" good work!

Thanks for the feedback! I made sure to work on instrumentation this time, since it was a weak point of my submission last year. Harmony is something I'm still figuring out!

The sounds are sick, you can push the ideas further I think, for exemple with the Title Theme who's a bit to "weak" melodicaly to stick as the Main Theme of your game. The minimalist arrangement is not bad, I can portray some sort of really old Commodore game esthetic, with some modern synth in it, I think there is some interesting esthetic to dig here.

Developer

Yeah the title theme definitely could have been elaborated on, it was one of the last things I worked on so it suffered as a result. Thank you for the feedback!

I like it, after reading the description i thought it's gonna be something deeper, but i still like the way it is. Synths sound very cool, especially in The Reactor

Thanks so much!
