Cool idea with some very fun aspects but the UI is very cluttered and hard to navigate the menus in particular. Has a lot of potential though.
I tried to play it in the browser and the build didn't work for me. I get to the tutorial and right when I need to hit the parry it seems to just stop registering my button presses. Everything worked fine up to that point.
Thanks for playing!
I just double-checked the build and everything seems to be working on my end. In that part of the tutorial, the game is actually designed to pause completely until you press the exact key or button indicated on the screen (just like in this image).
To help figure out what might have gone wrong, could you tell me which browser, joystick/controller, and operating system you're using?
Also, if you want to try again and skip the tutorial entirely, you can just press ESC before starting the battle and turn off the tutorial option in the menu.
I'm using the Brave Browser on Linux Mint. I could try it on FireFox as well. I am also using a keyboard.
Please try disabling the tutorial and let me know if everything is going well
Thank you for the info about the tutorial. I am unable to get the arrow keys to work and I am not sure why. I don't think anyone else is having this issue. The attack works but, when I go to try the parry it won't go. Even when I am in the character select screen I can't use the arrows to switch to the other locked characters. I can left click in the character select but, not in battle.
I will look into this more thoroughly when I get home. Including you, there are two people experiencing the same issue.
Do you have a joystick connected?
I have a setting that automatically detects joysticks and this affects the input, it could be a joystick that the game isn't recognizing.
I was finally able to play once I got my controller out and plugged it in. I have a small short somewhere in the controller and was able to parry just fine. I was a little too eager to play and got caught mid attack a few times. I was going strong until my controller died on me, this is a very fun game you got.
Could you help me test a developer build so I can check the console logs when this bug happens?

That was a lot of fun! I managed to take out the first boss.
Difficulty is pretty brutal, I found myself staring at the parry buttons and forging attacking entirely, especially on my first attempt. Of course by the boss you have to start delaying your inputs to match the animation, but I managed. I would defiantly recommend an easy mode to get the swing of things, more forgiving parry inputs.
A few tutorial UIs seemed to loop until I hit the ESC button on my keyboard and not onscreen button. My mouse also had to be pretty pixel perfect to read the stats on my items and such.
You clearly have a vision and have made a beautiful game! Well done!
Thanks for playing Between Gods and taking the time to share your feedback!
Congratulations on defeating the first boss! It sounds like you quickly picked up on the rhythm of watching the enemy attack animations rather than just relying on the onscreen prompts.
Parry Timing & Difficulty: The tight parry windows and learning curve are definitely a big part of the game's challenge right now. Adjusting the parry timing window and making the difficulty curve smoother or potentially adding a more forgiving mode is something being actively looked at so players can get into the flow without it feeling brutally punishing right off the bat.
Stats and Inventory UI: As you mentioned, inspecting stats with the mouse is currently buggy. Pressing TAB is the reliable workaround for checking your stats for now.
Gorgeous Game, but I eat every hit of the enemy regardless of I have pressed the correct button or not. Can't pass the first encounter.
Thanks for playing my game!
Sorry to hear that, the game definitely seems to be a bit trickier for some players
Need to increase the time to react, according to the human reaction time. It may vary per game design of combat system. For example, in my game You have nearly 0.2f seconds to react and can defend against multi-hit attacks mid-combo as long as the character is still standing on the ground, plus I have readable movesets of characters that can be learned as you continue fighting. Your game is QTE based with three variations of attack chosen absolutely randomly, therefore much more time is needed to react properly. Currently, the rate of "I HAVE PRESSED THAT BUTTON, D@MNIT!" situations is out of this world.
Hey tested your game and I really like it! :D The style is gorgeous and the fights are fun :) I didn't try out the skill tree yet.
Here are some things to improve on:
- One time a fight startet while I was still in the tutorial screen. -> I would pause fights if the player is in another screen.
- One time I got stuck with the merchant, were no buttons worked anymore. So I had to restart. Another time in the merchant screen I couldn't see the effects of the items anymore, after the message "without empty slot... etc."
- When I left the game through the pause menu to the main menu, I had trouble with the fullscreen view and then the game got stuck.
- I love the fights so far, I just wonder if the down attack of the mermaid is buggy or if I'm just too bad to parry it xD
The Mermaid down attack feels way harder than the other enemies. Doesn't have to be a bad thing just pointing it out :)
Overall I'm very curious how this project developes :D
Hey! Thanks so much for testing the demo.
First off, the screen issue when returning to the main menu is actually a browser-specific bug—it doesn't happen on the Windows version. To be honest, I haven't had the time to fix that one just yet.
Regarding the lower attacks for the Mermaid and Triton: I'm working on it! They really are the hardest to deal with because they're super fast. You're not a bad player at all—several people have brought this up, so I definitely need to balance it out.
As for the shop bug, that's a strange one—it's the first time anyone has mentioned it! If you tried to equip an amulet without having an empty slot, the game asks you to replace one of your existing ones. In that state, your only options are pressing ESC to cancel or Space to replace. Maybe that got a bit confusing and made it feel like the game was frozen? Let me know!
Thanks a lot for your feedback, I'll definitely keep all of it in mind.
If I have the time I'll try to reproduce the merchant situation and then I see if it was a bug or just me not knowing which Button to press ^.^
That's definitely a bug, because you're not the first person to tell me that.
