Very delightful soundtrack. I like the motif visualisations! Funny how you gave the gnomes the reeded instruments, for me it was the dwarves. I want my main character to meet lute girl so they can Jam!
maybe everyones brain just links the wind instruments to the small, mischievous creatures
Plotting Gnomes was my favorite! I like the harmonizing lines you composed for the strings, alongside the melody. The guitar plucks are too harsh, some parts lack automation, and the quantizing is too strict, which can make the listening experience feel stiff at times. Lute Girl was great and definitely makes me curious about her character, with the inviting yet intimidating feel of the track. I liked the chords you utilized for the credits track (IV - iv). Minor 4 is the classic when it comes to creating that bittersweet vibe. I wish you had included another section with a new chord progression, since the one you used starts to get a bit boring to the ear; introducing new harmonies would brighten up the credits track. Great job on creating these!
ill take your notes into account. and thanks for pointing out the IV-iv. its my favourite chord cliche (especially when its I7-IVmaj7 - iv6) . we all love that bittersweetness. thanks π
This is a fun soundtrack! I really like the light-hearted adventure kinda feel. The tracks were perfect for conveying the story, I think the last three were my personal favorites! Both gnome themes are the right balance of sinister but not too serious.
If I had to offer feedback, the only thing that stuck out to me was the solo viola (?) in Town Plaza. It kinda feels a smidge out of tune and not as precise with timing, which really makes it stick out against everything else. I do appreciate the effort to get a live recording in such limited time, so kudos to that!
Aside from that, great soundtrack! One of my favs I've listened to so far!
solo violin but yeah tbf it was the only part that i was unconfident with because i dont think i had properly warmed up π thanks though
oh and i recorded the violin in goodnight asw just sayin ππ
Very cute, my favorites were Daybreak and Goodnight. You seem to struggle in the programming of larger arrangements, but there are many good ideas there. And the calmer songs really shine through!
tbf i was hesitant on how long the music should be since i was thinking in the context of video games theyre loopable. but ill definitely take you advice for next jams and create longer compositions π
Pretty great tracks! Remind me of some MMORPGs from South Korea. Lute girl and daybreak are my favorite tracks.
Great game concept and soundtrack! I wrote down my thoughts while listening to each track:
Small Gnomes - At first, I felt this track was missing something, then I realized this was an introduction to the theme, while Plotting Gnomes is the fleshed out βrepriseβ version, so no criticism there.
Town Plaza - I do love an accordion and polka rhythms. I appreciate that you took the time to record live instruments because I understand it introduces other challenges, especially within the time constraint. This is a great track already, though one thing I would try in order to develop this further is to have 4 or 8 bars where the arrangement shrinks down then builds back up.
Lute Girl - Lovely progression, reminiscent of Spanish flamenco.
Daybreak - Nice interplay between the melodic lines here.
Plotting Gnomes - My favorite track. Good use of dynamics, part writing, harmonizing lines, and form of the piece.
Goodnight - I like the way you used percussion here. A sweet farewell piece for this soundtrack.
I really enjoyed listening to your soundtrack which conveys a playful energy, motivic development, and good variety to tell a complete story. Nice work!
thank you for your indepth review ππ
Lute girl was my favorite for sure, love the ideas here :)
I like how charming all the songs are. Even when the gnomes are revealed to be evil, it doesn't take itself too seriously and I appreciate that.
The songs are short and sweet and get their points across well.
Sometimes it feels like the songs might be lacking a bit in terms of complexity, but they are still fun to listen to and I like how you explained how you incorporated the story in the music with keys and melody inversions.
thank you king ππ«°
Seconded carrot and kaz - I've gotta say Lute Girl was my favorite as well, and Plotting Gnomes had me wondering, "what if all those hours I played Barony were fun instead of stressful?"
thanks brah
I like the whimsical feel this ost has! personal favorite is lute girl just because of how calming it is as well as the melody :)
my friend said she liked that one aswell π maybe its a fan favourite? i like your tracks very much asw bruh
Neat submission! Love the air of gnomish mischief especially.
thank you πββοΈ i think wind instruments are great to capture mischeif
