How does your game meet GBJam's theme
For old gold, I was inspired more by a materialistic mental item rather than physical gold. To incorporate this, I created a game where your mother is in a care facility and you visit her one night with her high school yearbook. You go back in time as your mother to repair the old memories for her (or attempt to... 👀) Some are good, some are bad. Depending on how many daydream clouds you get will determine if you hit the "golden" memory that she may have once forgotten. (Don't want to spoil the endings so I'm being a little vague :') )

Very sweet game. I would've liked to explore more for clouds and fix more memories but I get the time constraints of the jam. I really liked the art, both the traditional pixel RPG sprites/tilesets and the yearbook pictures were really good!
I really liked the idea of treating memories as “old gold” to recover, and the story is handled nicely with concise dialogue.
The gameplay side felt a little more limited to me, and I wasn’t always sure what the little clouds were for beyond progressing the story.
Still, it’s a really nice concept, and I think a bit more interaction around recovering the memories could make it even stronger.
Aww🥹 Who's cutting onions?
Such a cute game. Honestly, no complaints, everything was good! -well, the walking anim looked a bit unnatural, but it's a very small detail, and it's hard to get them right while also keeping the vibe you want😅
Really cool work!
Lovely little story that captures a serious problem and has nice metaphores around memory loss with gameplay, loved the ending part.
Graphics wise the game looks just out of a gameboy with a few exceptions. Not sure if I’m the only one here, but both the transitoin effect and some textboxes were out of the resolution restriction. Played the game on firefox with a zoomed in screen, not sure if that is what caused it.
Sfx and music were nice, they tied to the story and the mood really well!
Well done!
Thank you! Hmm. It must be the zoom because every textbox should be exactly the same and fit the requirement unless I'm misunderstanding the rule/your comment. My textbox draws with a 14px border on each side with the same size permanently. (Edit: Corrected border size)
I'll have to check the transition. I'm pretty sure I made the squares 16x16 so it should fit across perfectly each way. It draws one at a time. I'll update this comment if it's the wrong size though for open honesty when I can check! (Edit: I did check the transition and they are 16x16 sprites!)
Thank you for taking time to play my game and leave feedback💚
Ahh, okay good to know, updated my ratings then! I was just scared to fullscreen due to the warning, but still wanted a visible size for the recording :D that is why I left the fyi so you can look into it!
As I don't really play visual novels too often, I didn't really understand the game format too well but I love the mood that you were able to convey with the pixel art and the music. There are sweet little stories in there. Obviously I think the gameplay could be embellished upon and cleaned up a bit but you didn't have time for anything too daring, which is fine. I liked this. It was different. Good luck in all that you do.
Thank you! I'd love to expand on it in the future if I have time to come back to it after working on my personal project. Appreciate the kind words and the work you put in for me last minute 💚
First of all, I LOVE THE TRANSITION!! The art is incredible and the bgm is soothing too! The memory restoration is genuinely super cool :) also eff you graham! haha. I got one of the endings but may come back for more if I get a chance!
Thank you for the kind words! (Yeah Graham is a bum...) I am glad you enjoyed it 💚
Amerijapan seems lovely this time of year. The atmosphere is nice as is the art (the yearbook especially, but I liked the night woods scene as well). The main song is good though gets a little bit repetitive. I enjoyed it.
Thank you! I can understand the music take. I wanted to be able to put in more variety music for each memory but ran out of time as my composers were found last minute because my original composer ghosted me. Didn't want to stress them with asking for multiple songs in one day as I was very grateful for what they did for me on such short notice!
Beautiful art, the yearbook page with every student drawn and named is a great way into the story. fixing a memory by swapping out the person who does not belong there is a clever mechanic for it. nice job
Thank you very much! If I expand I hope to add more than just people that can be wrong, like I kind of hinted at with the trash cans if you try to "fix" them in the first memory.
Phenomenal game! I got the ending where they talk about a clown.
Thank you! Congrats, you were remembered! <3
I thought you did pretty well with the concept! There was a bit of an audio bug that may or may not have been intentional: once the memory started glitching, so did the music. Besides that, I enjoyed it. Well done!
Thank you for playing and for sharing. I am not sure why that happened. I will have to try to mess with it to try to break it in some spare time as I can't get it to happen on my part right now.
Neat game! I played through three times but was only able to get two of the endings. I liked the atmosphere, mechanics and narrative quite a bit :)
Thank you for the kind words! If I expand on the game more, I want to make the endings get a little more spread out to get.
The current endings are:
Very touching! And a lovely interpretation of the theme. The game does such a great job of building characters in such a short span. Got dumped, got baked XD
Appreciate the words! I tried my best to make them feel at least a little bit connected without making the game super long or way too short. Very glad to hear it landed well.
This was very sweet. The story was really affecting, and the yearbook is a great framing device. The music was perfect. I was interested in the memory erasing mechanic, and I'd love to see a longer game that played with that idea more.
Thank you very much for your kind words and for playing! I honestly fell in love with this game concept very quickly over the span of the jam, so I might expand on the game afterwards as well.
Very atmospheric artwork and sound design.
The story explores a surprisingly deep theme.
The game is interesting and enjoyable to play, and all of its elements feel beautifully and carefully crafted.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked it. My composers did a wonderful job to help set the mood and I'm very grateful for them!
Reminds me something like "To the Moon", neat little novel. Less on gameplay but lovely visuals and good player direction!
Thank you! I'll have to check that game out, I haven't heard of it before. Hopefully I can expand on it more in the future to add a little more actual gameplay to it to make it feel less like a visual novel.
It's a solid little visual novel-esque game. Art and music are nice, story's neat. I didn't realize collecting clouds was important, but ended up collected them anyways and that worked out. Good job!
Thank you! I didn't want to necessarily guide the player directly to collecting the clouds, as it was more a reward for exploring the memories. The memories were originally going to be bigger with more to explore, but I didn't have time to make more art for it with my time limitation. So I just made the clouds jump a little rather than stating or showing that it truly had any effect so it was more a little surprise what you ended with. Insert some philosophical quote about how little things are important in life here lol. Thanks again!
A fine narrative game, with not much emphasis on gameplay, which is okay. The game interpretes this jam theme quite well in my opinion by having a more original take on the meaning of "old gold"!
The soundtrack is chill, it doesn't do much to surprise the player but it's good enough to set the mood.
Graphics are clean enough, my favorite image being the yearbook picture :)
Thank you for your kind words. I'm new to pixel art so it was for sure an interesting challenge to draw on this scale! Glad it came across good :)
