How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Play as Anne, a pirate selling her "old gold" and other antiques to a modern museum.
- "Old Gold" as in a valuable thing from the past.
- Some of the items are actually made of gold.
- The once ordinary items from Anne's life are now valuable "gold" to the museum.

Very good game. On theme, with authentic GB art and direct gameplay actions.
I've got stuck exploring for the first time (maybe the rocks were just a bit out of the frame so I couldn't see the way forward or back), but I've tried again. Didn't get too many treasures since after some I felt the task would be a bit too repetitive, but I've really enjoyed the game in general.
As for feedback, I get that you wanted the museum to be big, but it's too much. With only 4 items there I had to spend minutes trying to find them. This mixed with a very repetitive music was a bit annoying. The world music though didn't feel repetitive, it sounded pretty good. The hook is a great mechanic and makes a lot of room for level design (risky in some cases since it might be annoying to use the hook and be slightly over the water tiles to be sent back).
I think the annoyances of big map or having to repeat a hook are part of the gameboy feel though, so not really a problem.
Good job!
Thanks for playing and for the feedback!
When I did play test passes to eliminate hook soft locks, I accidentally added a few so I'm sorry about that.
Amazing game! Makes you feel like a treasure hunter. I managed to collect 47 items got exhausted afterwards but had fun. I also love the museum music.
47 is the highest I've seen! Well done and thanks for playing!
I love how all the items you collect appear in the museum, it makes progression more fun. Also nice colour palette too, using 4 different colours instead of shades makes the visuals more unique.
Thank you!
Where this is on point, it's a gorgeous game. Where it's off, it's a little jarring, like the water. Still, it's more good than off, for sure. It's got a lot too it, and that's amazing in and of itself. I think it's well put together Absolutely love the palette.
Thanks! I tried to pick a palette that would let me represent everything and still be colorful!
I've gotten multiple comments about the water being hard on the eyes, so I'll go back and change it after the jam ends!
I managed to collect 24 treasures. I tried to stop at 16, but ran into another 8 before I found my way home -_-. Really impressive world size and detail! I found (and then later spent way too much time trying to abuse) what I assume is a bug - it seems the black danger zone only respawns you on a timer, so if you take little halting steps you can move while it's not respawning and then stand still, and get across up to 3-4 of these tiles that way... It seemed like there were some places I couldn't reasonably get to / out of without abusing this though (especially on the right, there was a big harpoon area, I found a bunch of treasure, but I couldn't find any way off without walking across 2 danger tiles... quite possibly I missed something though, it's a big map!). Just wandering around did get a little old long before I got all the treasure though, it would have been good to have either some other mechanics, like buying some new upgrade that lets you get past certain obstacles, to keep it fresh.
The sound was really nice, I was still enjoying the music by the end and it was quite nice having even different footstep sounds for what I'm walking on!
Thanks for playing, I'm glad you had fun!
Originally, you would start with a sword and unlock swimming and the harpoon by collecting treasures or finding them, but that had to be cut for time.
The water walking "bug" is deliberate, the step is only checked on a 1/4 second interval, so you can abuse that to walk across water. I did it as an homage to the hovering glitch from Zelda: A Link to the Past.
The harpoon area on the right was accidentally made unsolvable when I was "fixing" it (there was no rock to get back, so I added one, blocking off the way to get IN). Everything else should be possible without the bug!
I posted a map of all the treasure locations at the bottom of the page if you're curious.
Very cozy and chilly game! The different sounds for the terrain types and the vast variety of the world overall create a nice and relaxing experience. Reading the subtle clues in the way the obstacles were placed felt satisfying and was a good use of the limited map design a gameboy game would have. It would have been great to talk to more NPCs while searching around. But, still, I really liked your interpretation of the secondary theme!
Thanks! I always find myself looking for secrets where there aren't any in games, so I figured I'd try to make a game out of that.
I was going to add some NPCs in the pirate area, and some progression mechanics, but didn't really have time.
How many treasures did you find?
I think it worked very well! I only found 20 for now. But I somehow missed the whole pirate ship I'm now seeing in the screenshots, so I'm counting on finding more.
So much to look for, and so easy to loose oneself in the bizarre colourful world.
Thank you! I'm glad you liked the art and world!
I had the most fun just zipping around with the harpoon :D
Haha I'm glad! It was my favorite addition!
Man, you're good at hiding things!
I wandered around for a while and only found 7 treasures. Finding them all will be a real challenge, and I love that!
One thing that could help is a faster way back to the portal, since I couldn't remember the way I came, haha.
The music is very chill and well-made, even though it's just a looping melody!
Very, very good job!
Thanks for playing!
I was thinking about how to make getting back faster (it is in the center of the island), but I couldn't think of a way that felt right. You don't really need to go there until you want to sell, since there's no bag limit or anything!
