Really nice graphics and atmosphere! I had the same impression as the other commenters that the controls/movement could have been more responsive though. I was also confused when I couldn’t enter the door despite the UI prompting me to, and had to check the comments to realize it’s because I didn’t kill enough enemies.
I played this on stream today (recording here) in case you’re interested in watching someone play your game. Despite the mentioned issues, I think there’s a lot of potential here if you ever find the time to polish it!
ill definitely watch it soon! this was my first game jam and i very quickly realized how important it is watching people play for the first time, there was a lot that i didn't really think about in terms of perspective and communication. thank u for the feedback!!
The game has wonderfull art and the music and sounds fit the train vibe. Evrything was good except for one thing...
I couldn't get the controls good. I tried attacking the first enemy but it always ended up with me damaged and not even attacked the enemy. The rolling also ended me up damaging myself by going of the train. The wagon with 2 enemies below a ladder also was just asking to be damaged. So the problem was little of space on each wagon.
The premise of the game looks nice and like i said in the beginning art look amazing.
This game looks and sounds beautiful - the opening cutscene alone had me awe struck - but I could not handle the controls at all. The castlevania-esque fixed jump arcs, with a mandatory roll afterwards; the half-second stagger whenever you hit a wall; needing to figure out walls and not-walls through trial and error; enemies being able to hit you off during your recovery climbing-back-on-the-train animation; most lateral jumps and drop-downs being completely blind; the incredibly slow climb speed; it's just not fun. I almost got stuck on the first level because the door said (A) but wouldn't open, and I went scouring the level before finding out that I had to kill a certain amount of enemies beforehand.
If I'm missing something here or just need to get good, I'd be glad to give it another go, but as is, I had to call it quits on the second stage because I wasn't having fun.
The art on this is stunning! I was blown away by it when I opened haha. I found it a little hard to control the character. At one point I fell off and then was brought to a section farther down the train right onto an enemy which killed me the second I got up the ladder, then killed me again the second I got up the ladder again so I lost. Music and sfx were lovely. Great work!
Love that art! And the parallax effect really lends itself to the train theme. Really has that gameboy soul. Great job! But hard to actually play as usually I would get stuck bonking on enemies or the landing roll would yeet me off the train lol Overall great sound and art and the feeling of the game is great! Would love to play again when there are a few more i-frames 😁
Really love this game's vibe in particular, from the music and the parallax... it all clicks together beautifully, if that makes sense. Graphics are beautiful, animations are smooth, and the story... well, I barely understood a thing because of a bad case of cold that I still have to deal with at the time of this review, but it seemed interesting!
My main issue with the game are the controls and how the game plays on its own. I won't get too yappy about the former since my only issue with it is the fact that "Jump" and "Attack" are assigned to X and Z respectively. Usually it's the other way around so it took some time getting used to. To start off my rant with the latter... the player feels rather clunky to control, with the forced roll after each diagonal jump, the slow ladder climbing speed, and the lack of air control. I remember reading about this being intentional as youre supposed to get upgrades that improve your control... but I feel like that's a rather poor way to approach upgrades unless youre making an incremental game. It harms replayability in my opinion because I really would not want to deal with this every time I replay this game. Sorry about the lengthy rant, I still think this game is a very solid entry and definitely worth a shot.
I couldnt progress through the game entirely but I would love to when I have time.
Top notch art, animations, and sound. The animations were S tier within this jam! World building also seemed really cool. I'm a big fan of dropping the player right in the deep end of the lore and letting them piece together what everything means.
My only complaint is that the platforming itself was quite punishing. Particularly the post-landing roll was pretty long and stretched pretty far, leading to overshoots, wall bumps, and enemy collisions.
Really high production value game!
Liked the art and music a lot. Gameplay felt a bit clunky, but in an intentional way, like an old-school castlevania. Like how you can change the control scheme as well, Unfortunately I struggled quite a bit as I am pretty bad with platformers, so I didn't get super far, but the story seemed intriguing if confusing (intentional?)
Love the art and animations.
Love the art and animations.
Me🤦 when the character did cool roll and then fall off, got back up and got kicked by an enemy at the top of the ladder.
Very nice visuals and audio indeed, there seem to be so much efforts in artworks, by the amount of animations each characters have. But the player's character movement however, it was a nice attempt to add certain limitations in it, but it kinda do bad more than good. But I'm interested to see how the intended design will turn out in the future.
I was excited to play this game every time I saw your updates on Discord.
Top marks on graphics and audio for sure — the pixel art is absolutely gorgeous, the characters, and the train scenes are all beautiful. Your sunset parallax made me insecure about mine haha!
The background music on both scenes are also really well done. I especially love the rising pitch sound effect when the game starts.
Unfortunately there isn’t much to write home about on the gameplay side of things. The platforming felt a little clunky, especially with how the player is forced to roll on every small jump or drop, how I get knocked back when I bump on walls, or how I instantly get hit by enemies the moment I climb up the ladder to recover.
I understand you guys ran out of time, and I would have loved to see more of it. Fighting my way through the train roofs was amazing.
Anyways, congratulations on the entry and keep it up!
Love the idea and the art so much. The little ha ha SFX reminds me of Superstar Saga, so nostalgic
Your entry reminds me of some old flash games I played as a child on miniclip.
Love the intro and small polished details, like the ladder climb sounds.
Also putting those sketches of the characters in the background of the itch page is a great idea :D
Overall great vibes.
i loved the graphics, art and animation the most. the gameplay was real fun. really want to know how you fit all the detailed animation and art into such a small amount of time
unfortunately it was a result of a lot of scope creep, it's the reason why the first real level is so unpolished LOL

This already should appeal to me cos I like trains.
I love the presentation and interesting story and anime-style character designs, alongside the interesting mechanic where you can fast travel to different carriages. Honestly I was really caught off guard when the game went night mode.
I do feel that the forward roll after landing was a bit intrusive as it leaves you vulnerable and makes you fall into pits when you don't want to. Also I encountered enemies that were unfairly placed above certain ladders when you fast travel. Good thing you only have to kill a set amount of them. I also really think this game would benefit from skippable cutscenes as they're really slow-paced on repeat playthroughs, especially after death.
Overall, though, you guys did a great job and I would love to keep one of the Fluffies (it's too bad they're enemies).
Those animations were amazing, the controls were polished, despite being limiting. My first playthrough I got stuck on 0 hp and had to restart, but great game!
The visual and sfx are really good, the game is really fun and polished, the only bug i had encountered was that the "wasd" control layout didnt work and so i had to switch to the arrow keys (which i would prefer over wasd anyways)
the art is so good as well the gamplay
