I think it's an interesting take on minesweeper, but I think the crucial part of minesweeper is that clicking on a safe tile "fills" the rest of the nearby safe tiles, and without that it feels less strategic.

It's not bad for a solo game jam title at all, there's potential here for an interesting game.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately I don't know how to make update the to add filling the rest of the nearby safe tiles, I'm just learning video game development, so you will just have to deal with it...

Nice take on Minesweeper! It took me a little while to figure out what I was supposed to do, and I’m still not completely sure I understood all the rules.

Still, it definitely sent me 15 years back in time. =)

The description of the game doesn’t really help understanding what exactly the game is about, I see 3 layers maybe, but sometimes a number hits me on a layer, sometimes it doesn, there is no clear progression or rule system given to the player, which makes trying the game out kinda hard. It also doesn’t support any kind of 6 button control the jam rules said to support sadly.

Graphically there is nothing wrong here, I’d just love to know what everything does here, as it feels like a minesweeper which I’d enjoy.

Music and sfx were okay.

Overall, not sure where to put my finger on, as there is no clear gameplay for the player to understand, which I feel like is a good learning point to take away from here.

Hey thanks for the feedback, I just added a bit of a description to make things a bit more clear.

Like the previous poster, I love Minesweeper, but I also struggled to understand what was going on. Even why I can press twice on the same field? I'm really confused :D

This game felt really confusing. I had no idea which layer means what and even when I hit a mine I couldn't navigate from it since it disapeared so I couldn't really find out what's going on by myself. It's a shame cuz I very much enjoy minesweeper and I probably would've loved the game if I knew what was going on.

Right now, the game's 100% missing a tutorial (or at least some explanation on the itch page of how does the depth work and how to navigate the layers). Also, kind of a nitpick, but mouse technically wasn't allowed as an option for controls.

i suck at minesweeper. The game is good tho. Only thing i wanna critique is use of a mouse, gameboy didn't have one and you could have gotten away with using arrow keys(and start/select for swapping where to USE those arrows(different menus that you have)). Good game!

Developer

Thanks for the feedback, I would change the game so that it uses the arrow keys instead of a mouse and use start/select for swapping If It would not ruin the code game, unless I rewrite it, witch I don't feel like doing right now, however, I will try and use the gameboy controls next GBJAM to make the next game look like an actual gameboy game next time. Kudos!

I got to admit, I am very bad when it comes to a game of minesweeper, though something I like about this is the radar for gold and for mine, where you can swap anytime to know where either could be. The soundtracks and graphic are pretty neat. Pretty simple and I love it!

I feel silly, I didn't really understand what to do. I can click tiles up to a certain point, I can go lower and click them some more. Tiles have different numbers, and some have gold, and others have mines. Nonetheless, the actual gameplay of clicking, hearing sounds, and occasional blings of gold was well done and enjoyable. And it was fun to try and figure things out.
