Man, this game is brutal. It's hard to get coins or maintain speed and you get sucked into the void really quickly as it's hard to predict what's in front of you with the insane speed you can reach.

Still, the core gameplay is simple, yet fun enough and I can see this being an endless runner. The upgrades give the player a reason to replay the game and collect gold, too. Good job!

Thanks! Yeah, we realized it was a little too difficult when we playtested it the Sunday it was due...lol.

Very very hard game. Pretty fun.

Developer

Yeah, I myself have barely gotten past 160 blocks

Submitted

It's a neat arcade-style game.

First off, the music is excellent. Secondly, I really liked the speed build-up. It made the game feel more and more manic the deeper I drilled.

Maybe the UI could use a few tweaks so fuel is easier to read at a glance. A visual bar that starts flashing as it gets close to empty could work really well.

That aside, the actual gameplay was a lot of fun. Good concept with a lot going for it.

Developer

thanks! I did the music, so that's really encouraging!

I like the idea of the game and once I understood what each color represented I could make some progress and it was fun! I did find it hard to know why I died because it was hard to keep an eye on fuel etc. Also the writing was hard to read

The music was really good, the gameplay was also fun to play, it would take a while to understand how stuff works. I wish the font was more readable, I couldn't understand most of the upgrades or read the guide. Great Job with the game

I love the gameplay loop, going faster and trying to collect gold squares was fun! The graphics were nice and worked well with going fast! The music was great, however since it was more modern instrumentation it took me away from feelings of a gameboy game! Great work overall!

I loved the SFX and music, and the concept is simple but fun, with added depth through upgrades. I couldn't get very far on most runs, since I'd be going too slow to escape the void or too slow to avoid tar/bombs before too long, but I did enjoy it!

With the drill and void escaping you have a unique spin on the otherwise sea of dig down for gold games in the jam! The game is a neat score chaser, which does need a bit more time in the oven, but overall not bad!

Graphics were neat, we had some cool art and a clean gameplay scene, sadly font and a transparancy breaks the rule, but otherwise nothing bad here!

MSX and SFX were great, well done!

Maybe some indications for the activated effects could elevate it a bit more, but a good game nonetheless!

Developer

Thanks, I liked your game too!

Cool game mechanic.  I like the almost tetris like art feel and the way you gain speed as you dive deeper.

Like others have said, I think the difficulty ramps a little too quickly.  I also found it difficult to find enough gold to upgrade

Submitted

I like how the speed increases as you play. Fun game! But window too smol

Submitted

Oh how everything snowballs once you reach too much speed!
This game is really fast , makes it hard to dodge the tar or to catch things, but it's also just as quick to just jump back into! (Almost had 666), Good stuff!

Submitted

Fun idea, though it gets very difficult more quickly than I can adapt to it lol.

Submitted

liked the game although had trouble reading the shop item characteristics, other than that i enjoyed it

Submitted

I enjoyed this game and found it hard to dodge anything accuratly because of how quickly I got fast. The shops font want also sort of hard to read but I did really like the sounds, good work!

Whew, I'm not good at this one.  Several times I died to "The Void" but I didn't actually see the void on the screen.  Difficult to get gold before the void gets you. (Some games I didn't even *see* any gold before the game ended).  I can't tell how much gold I actually have on the Market screen.

But it's a compelling gameplay loop and quick and easy to play a few games.  I liked it.

Submitted

The gameplay loop is very nice! Also, in love with the market soundtrack.

Fun concept for a game! I thought that the core gameplay loop was pretty enticing. Only thing I think is the top screen starts moving down a bit too quickly before I can really get any gold. I think after playing a few times I only had about 10 gold. Maybe that is a skill issue though. >.>

It was a little hard to read with the fonts, and it's got a tough gameplay but probably cause my reaction time is deteriorating with age :)

It's a great idea to see the saved high score at screen start; and the color scheme does give out the retro vibe. Choice of music and mixing it up is also a good choice. All in all a nice GB game and great execution!
