Pretty fun gameplay, except the movement is a little janky. It feels very much like a gameboy. I really liked the rope on the harpoon gun, I also use Godot, so if it's not to much trouble, do you mind telling me how you made that rope?

Developer

The rope is made up of of a string of low-mass circular colliders joined with PinJoint2ds. We had to switch to the Rapier physics addon to make it stable. Rapier also has a RopeJoint2D that we used for the first and last joint (to the harpoon and player, respectively). It sets a maximum separation with free movement.

Unfortunately, some of the movement jank is because to make all of that work, we have to make the character a RigidBody instead of a CharacterBody. To make that better either the RigidBody controls need to be dialed in, or we would need to develop a system that uses a CharacterBody (hard, because it doesn't respond to forces).

Your artwork is absolutely lovely. Just magnificent. The gameplay was pretty good, but I will admit it took some time to get used to the movement, I bumped into a few more jellyfish than I care to admit. All in all, great submission!

Developer

Thanks! The movement probably could have used another day to really do some work with the harpoon, and maybe make the sharks a little easier to dodge.

The art and animation in this game is.. no other word for it.. epic! I am in awe, a mere mortal amongst the gods. It's fun, it feels like a gameboy game and was truly fun. Great work

Developer

Thank you! We really wanted to hit the GameBoy art aesthetic with some twists, so glad you felt like it worked!

This is probably the most "Gameboy" game I've played all Jam! The movement, art, and music all felt like a GB game, it was like playing a mario underwater level. I did have a bug where the game audio overlapped when I got to the surface and went to the next level a few seconds later.

Also loved the lighthouse reference.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! The underwater Mario levels were a big inspiration for the gameplay and music. Sorry about the bug, hopefully it didn't ruin the experience!

Really cool, i appreciate the momentum based movement

Developer

Thank you! I perhaps spent a bit too much time doing the physics-based movement, so I'm glad you liked it!

Overall a great experience, the art is fantastic and interesting gameplay with the harpoon. Also loved how the color changes when nearing the coins. Would have been good to be able to turn up (or down) the volume, as the background music was a little muted. But good job to the whole team!

love the game style and  harpoon pulling mechanic!
but its a little bit unforgiving on level 3, died there 3 times by shark in narrow hallwhen was trying to get into cave and got into starting cutscene

Thank you!! ^_^;
Sorry about the difficulty spike. we wanted to make it challenging with the short amount of time we kinda spiked the difficulty too early hahaha
