Sick pixel art and animations, vibing with the music and sound too! Just needs some gameplay polish and some tips on how to play
There's a cool core concept and some top-notch art and quality audio here, but the actual core gameplay is not well executed. Lack of auditory feedback means that sinking ships is unsatisfying. The shop is not well explained and is confusing to navigate. These are the game's two major features and neither was given suitable attention. Future efforts embarked with a willingness to trade some graphical/musical fidelity in favor of a cleanly executed core gameplay loop can result in a better player experience.
Gameplay was a bit nebulous but the music and artwork is absolutely incredible!
The visuals are so good in this, and the music is somehow even better! I couldn't get the shop to work, so without upgrades or a way for ships to really fight back, I put it down after 5 minutes or so, but I like the core concept and theming a lot! I'll look forward to a more fleshed out version if one ever comes!
I really liked this. The tentacle animation is especially good. The squash and stretch on all those circular suckers reads so well.
The presentation is awesome, and the music and SFX are great too.
I’d be interested to see where you take this with expanded mechanics. Really neat! I haven’t played anything else like it.
Yeah music and SFX were great, the kraken limb motion was terrific, but could do with more clarity on how mechanics work and how to trade. Would be intrigued for a post-jam update, and the pirate vendors were very cool!
I love the music and the graphics! I’m not entirely sure what the objective was, but having adversaries trying to destroy you would make the game much more challenging. Otherwise, I loved the premise ^^
Definitely the best-looking entry so far. Gameplay-wise I am incredibly confused
Very very fun! IDK if the store was broke couldn't figure out how to buy stuff, but if this was just a bit more polished this been a really silly game. Honestly would of made it like a tower defense or something like people trying to steal your eggs but over all this was so freaking fun.
Loved the music too!
Interesting idea, art is crazy good. Nice game!
The presentation is really detailed for a Game Boy game (I mean look at the octopus). The soundtrack is fire too, the main theme reminds me of a Mega Man track, as weird as that sounds, and I like that each trader at the shop has their own unique theme. I think it's a good idea to play as a giant octopus causing destruction and trading in loot for money.
I wasn't a fan of the gameplay itself, to be honest, as all it amounts to is mashing the attack button to destroy ships and it got kind of boring after a while. I also found it difficult to understand the trading aspect at first due to lack of clarity in some visuals (it was hard to see the items at the bottom. Honestly, if the game were finished, I would prefer to have a fail state and different ways you can attack ships, sometimes hostile ones. Maybe have a secondary reason to collect tons of gold, too, like upgrades.
Overall, though, keep up the good work and again, great job on the presentation.
Speaking of sea creatures, you could play my goldfish game if you like.
The music was fire! The main theme reminds me of drum & bass tracks. By the way, the super long sprite for the Kraken’s tentacle is really well done, it must have been pretty challenging to draw and animate. I wish the game were fully finished!
Love the theme of the game! KRAKEN! Music and art are awesome. There's one particularly funky beat in there that really hits!
