WOAH, THIS LOOKS LIKE SUCH A FUN RUSH HOME! 😂🏠💥
I really like how you turned the theme into a fast-paced platforming journey after the car breaks down. The dash-and-bash combat looks super satisfying, and the homemade art gives the game a lot of personality. The different environments and enemy encounters also make the trip home feel like an actual adventure rather than just one long level.
The upgrade/progression system is a really cool touch too, especially since gaining new abilities can open up different routes. The secret worm islands are a great addition as well—those little discoveries make exploring the levels more rewarding. One thing I’d improve is the enemy balancing and respawn points, since some encounters can feel pretty punishing. A little more enemy telegraphing or safer checkpoints could make the fast movement feel even smoother.
REALLY FUN AND POLISHED JAM PLATFORMER! 🔥🥊🏠 GOOD LUCK WITH THE JAM! 🎮✨
Thank you very much!! :DD
I'm glad you enjoyed the level designs and player abilities, those were some of the features we spent the longest time brainstorming over!
Congrats on finding the hidden worms, we felt like they were pretty tucked away! :D
I agree with your points about the enemies, I feel like they did end up being a bit too fast and unfair at times, if we were able to spend more time working on the project, I feel like a lot of it would be focused towards enemy AI and sprites, working on making them more unique and reactable, as well as a few tweaks towards the hazard respawn mechanic to make it feel a bit more fair.
Thank you for enjoying our game!! :D
Fun platformer!
I really enjoyed this. The attack feels brutal and the character has good weight. Solid polish overall.
The bee was a real problem.
I really like the style of this. Great submission!
Thank you very much! :D
The bees certainly can be a bit bothersome if they're flying just out of your punches' reach, hopefully you didn't find them too annoying :D
As annoying as bees in real life, but a lot more fun to deal with 😂.
Always good to see a decent platformer in a game jam.
Let's start with the good things. Most often games starting with an intro are of good quality. This time was no different. Intro was cool, main character funny, animations pretty good (over all- I liked the art design). Enemy variety was nice. The shop was a cool addition. The controls weren't "super meat boy" kind of good, but they were good enough. Music fit, and the fact you had different music in different levels was nice too.
What's my problem with this game... well... no easy way to say it. When I tried to get through the first level and failed for the first time I thought "there's no way to make it in 80 seconds!". And I was right. Because you need to fail a bunch of times to get money to get better skills. It's a platformer where you have to grind. A... grindformer!
To be honest- this didn't stick with me. You had solid level design, cool enemy variety, nice mechanics. Sure- the game would be shorter, but this is a game jam, so I don't mind. Better- I expect it!
Over all- really good platformer, with one design decision, that kinda makes in botch the landing.
Thank you for all the feedback!! :D
I'm glad you enjoyed the controls and art style! We spent quite a lot of time trying to make it feel right!
I'm sorry you didn't enjoy the upgrade system as much, our concept was a sort of incremental game where you start off weak and slowly feel your skills power up, to the point where earlier challenges now feel like a cakewalk - but I can understand how this could feel repetitive and grindy, especially in the context of a game jam where players understandably won't spend as much time on each game.
Thank you for the kind words nonetheless! Glad we could still deliver in other aspects! :D
I love the hand drawn opening scene! It’s cute! The combat hit reactions really take the game to another level. Well done!
Thank you! :DD
Love the game! I love the idea of coming back each time with power-ups! And it's nice to buy a power-up and, because of it, be able to take another route! The platforming feels good too!
Nice work!"
Thanks so much! :D
Glad to see another platformer in the game jam! I think the game is super fun and polished, the idea of improving in a platformer also feels great, so you end up beating the level. As a bit of feedback I would say that some times you can respawn where enemies are already there, and I had some trouble triggering the smash down (probably I'm a bit clumsy 😅) so ended up using grenades to cut leaves hahaha. Really nice game! I collaborated in Home Is Where Turtle Is in this jam, I would appreciate if you try it and give some platformer dev feedback!!
Thanks so much! :D
I agree that the respawn mechanic could use a bit of tweaking, I've definitely found myself respawning then immediately falling back into the same spike pit every now and then xD
Sorry that you were having difficulties with the slam attack, but nice thinking using the grenades to break through the leaves! I was hoping that with the range of abilities we provided to the player that it would prove more accessible, and that people would take different routes throughout the game, so I'm glad to see it worked out! :D
Interesting platformer, with some parts that almost feel like a Metroidvania. Really nice game!
My only feedback would be to work a bit more on the visuals. In many parts it looks really good, but with some sprites you can tell that something feels a little off. My advice would be to stick to a consistent color palette and establish some clear pixel art standards to make everything feel more cohesive.
If you have some time, feel free to check out my game too and give me some feedback! :)
Thank you!! :D
I will admit that quite a few of the visuals were definitely created quite rushed towards the end, there are definitely quite a few sprites and animations I would work a bit more on if we were to return to this game :)
I'll be sure to check out your game at some point too! :D
Cool game with great visuals and animations! Love the punchiness of the controls and the fast movement of the player character, especially in the air. Some of the enemies seem kinda busted but still fun
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed the game :D
I agree that some of the enemies could use a little work, that's definitely an aspect of the game we would look into more if we were to return to this project. :)
Probably the best game I have rated thus far.
Gameplay wise, its almost perfect. The platforming feels pretty smooth, and all the melee attacks feel great to use, and it is incredibly satisfying. The combat is fun, and the level layouts are really cool! The alternate paths to reaching the end are all fantastic, and greatly enhance the trial and error gameplay loop of the game. Few critiques, there are a lot of enemies primarily in the 2nd and 3rd worlds, that are incredibly unbalanced. Their attacks are not telegraphed all too well, which is mainly a problem because they are extremely aggressive and attack very quickly. Enemies like the birds and scorpions in the desert, and basically everything in the ice zone, I found the best way to counter, was just to run past and try and speedrun the level. Few minor complaints, is having to see the whole level preview after every attempt, which gets mildly annoying, and I found that the grenade was pretty useless. It is far too slow and too awkward to aim for me to enjoy using. The animations on it were great tho!
Visually the game is fantastic. The intro and ending animations were really cute and very well done. The character animations in the game were very smooth. All the attacks were well animated, and the shop and its items were very high quality. I don't really have any complaints other than the simple fact that due to the game being pretty stylized, there are probably some people that don't really rock with it (I am not one of them).
Audio was solid. Music was enjoyable and the sound effects were great. Nothing more to say.
The usage of the theme was very creative. Twisting it into making a roguelike style game was a great idea, and I think the execution was also very good. No complaints
Overall, among the highest quality games out there. Makes sense as about 100 Hours was spent on this, and that time was well spent.
Thank you so much!! :DD
I'm glad you enjoyed the combat and platforming! We spent a good while planning it out and implementing it!
I do agree with your points about the enemies, I do find myself getting hit in ways I also sometimes feel are unfair whilst playing, more refined and telegraphed behaviours is definitely something we would look into were we to expand the game further!
I can also understand your issues with the grenade, I found it to be more of a fun tool to mess around with from time to time, but I do agree that it often slows down the gameplay which can kind of impact the flow of the game. I also completely agree with your issue about the level previews, looking back that is definitely something we should have made more convenient for players before uploading.
Thank you for all the kind words :D
Really fun game! i gave it around 7-8 runs, and the sense of progression was great! The platforming aspect also felt really fun and forgiving, but also challenging in some areas, so i gradually did improve (couldnt reach the end though!) The action was interesting and i loved punchingbears :D Great job on packing so much content in a short duration.. I also noticed that this game is a sequel to your previous jam entry which was a fishing game right? Thats a great callback :)
Thank you! :D
No shame in not reaching the end, the game does get quite difficult at some points!
Thanks for noticing the callback to our previous entry! We thought it could be quite fun to include some continuity in our games from time to time :)
This is incredible, I'm writing this in a second window cause I'm going back to playing it afterwards! Extremely fun gameplay and awesome setting, blowing up worms with grenades will never not be satisfying. Only possible complaint so far is that I wish I could skip the level intro where it scrolls from the end to the start, but that's literally it so far. the art style is great, the gameplay loop is so addictive, jones has the best bits and bobs, fantastic.
Edit: Came back and finished after some dinner, best ending ever.
Thank you so much! :D I'm glad we succeeded in making the game feel satisfying to play!
I agree with your point about the level intros, a skip or fastforward is definitely something we should have added looking back.
Congrats on beating the game!
Wow really polished platformer
Thank you!
Gameplay / Fun / Engagement: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Art Style / Visuals: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Theme: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Audio/ Sound Design: ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The visuals are definitely my favorite part here. 5/5 from me. The game looks really good and everything feels nicely put together.
Gameplay was fun too. Id give it a solid 4/5. Had a good time with it and it feels nice to play.
For audio I almost thought there wasnt any music at first 😅 It was REALLY quiet for me. Once I noticed it I thought it was pretty good but I think making it louder would help a lot. Sound effects were nice too so 4/5 there.
Theme is also a 4/5 for me. Good game and definitely one I enjoyed playing :)
If you have some time please check out my game too! Id really appreciate a rating and some feedback :)
Thank you so much!! :D
I'll be sure to give your game a look at some point!
