I liked the mystery a lot. Coming back after ten years and slowly figuring out what happened works really well for this kind of point and click game. The audio is probably the strongest part for me. Footsteps heartbeat and all the little ambient sounds make some of the rooms feel way more uncomfortable than they would otherwise.

The biggest thing Id change is how clicking works. A few times I wasnt sure if something was usable or if I was just clicking random parts of the picture. Id change the cursor when something can be interacted with. Maybe hand for objects and an eye for things you can inspect. Even just a small outline when you hover would fix a lot.

I would also make the game react when you click something important. A tiny sound. maybe the object flashes for a second. anything really. Since clicking is basically the main thing youre doing it should feel obvious when the game actually accepted the click.

Another thing that could help is a hint system. Nothing that tells you the answer instantly. Maybe after being stuck for a while you get something like "there was something strange near the workshop" or the character comments on where to look. Point and clicks can get pretty brutal when you miss one small object and suddenly theres literally nothing else you can do lol.

Some objects becoming usable only after another event could be communicated better too. If I already clicked something earlier and nothing happened Im probably not gonna think "maybe I should click that again now". Maybe the object changes slightly when it becomes relevant or the character says something that points you back there.

Id also trim some of the writing a little. The story itself is interesting but a few lines could probably get to the point faster. With a mystery game I think shorter text can actually make things feel creepier because the player fills in some of the gaps themselves.

Art works pretty well for the atmosphere but Id definitely keep going with the plan to replace the generated stuff with original art if you continue the game. Some scenes have a lot of detail but that also makes important objects harder to spot. Having slightly simpler backgrounds and keeping important things more readable would help both the look and gameplay.

Audio is 5/5 for me though. It carries a lot of the atmosphere and I could tell you spent time on it.

Really interesting game and I like the idea behind the theme. It just needs a bit more help telling the player what the game actually wants them to notice.

If you have some time please check out my game too :) Id really appreciate a rating and some feedback!

i think this comment is for another game, this sounds like STORM TAIL game e.e

sorry, I keep some of my jam comments in notes and I accidentally pasted the storm tail one here. I edited it noww with the actual review for your game. my bad

Really enjoyed this game! The atmosphere and sound design are definitely the strongest parts for me. The music, footsteps and other sound effects do a great job of creating tension and making the world feel mysterious.

One thing I would improve is the feedback for interactive objects. Sometimes it wasn't very clear what could be clicked, so a small visual effect, cursor change, or sound when hovering over an interactive object could make the exploration feel much smoother.

Overall, great work, especially considering this was made for a game jam. The concept has a lot of potential, and I'd definitely like to see a more polished version of it in the future. Great job!

Developer

Thank you forplaying, yeah, actually im working in a hover  interaction with the mouse icon, changing or addind a symbol so you know this area is interactable,

im taking all the feedback on work to create a better experience x3

i really love the atmosphere, the ui, music, art and sound fits together,

one thing i like to point out is the interactive objects that was hard to recognize,

overall a good game!

Developer

Thanks, yeah, i work hard the sound and music this time, im not very familiar with the point and click, but i must work better with those interactive areas.

Very cool take on the theme! Loved the atmosphere, the music, sound, art and story all fit together really great. My only complaints would be some of the pixel hunting was tricky and that some objects only became clickable after other events.

Really enjoyed, great work!

Developer(+1)

Hello thanks for the feedback, yeah some objects in some cases are interactable after another interaction, to avoid for this time some crashes or jump some sections, but i will take all the info to the next update, thanks for playing it x3

WOAH, THIS IS SUCH A DIFFERENT TAKE ON “THE LONG WAY HOME”! 🏠🌑🔍

I really like the idea of measuring the journey in years instead of miles. Coming back home after ten years and slowly uncovering what happened gives the theme a much deeper and more emotional meaning. The point-and-click exploration, mysterious story, and atmosphere work really well together, and the sound design is a huge strength the music, footsteps, heartbeat, and other effects really help build that feeling of returning to a place filled with secrets.

For improvement, I think the biggest thing would be making interactive objects easier to recognize. A subtle highlight, cursor change, or small visual/audio response when hovering or clicking would make exploration much smoother. Some optional hints could also help when the player gets stuck, especially in a point-and-click game where missing one object can stop the entire progression.

REALLY ATMOSPHERIC AND AMBITIOUS FOR A JAM GAME! 🎵🏠👀🔥 THE STORY CONCEPT AND AUDIO GIVE IT A LOT OF POTENTIAL, AND I’D LOVE TO SEE THIS IDEA EXPANDED WITH MORE POLISHED ART AND INTERACTION! GREAT WORK AND GOOD LUCK WITH THE JAM! 🎮✨

Developer(+1)

Yeah the idea is to create original artwork, better interactions and maybe expand the game a little, thank you so much for playing and love that you like the music and audio, is one of my focus to be honest.

And is my first tiem wrting or adapting an history x3.

Intriguing story and characters. The visuals are beautiful and the sound helps build a world out of it.

Not really a point-and-click player, but I wouldn’t have minded more feedback within the world. Glowing interactable or an effect on hover. I felt like I was just blindly clicking on things most of the time to see what even was and wasn’t interactable.

Really polished presentation.

Developer

Thanks, and to be honest im not a piont and click gamer too, maybe yeah have to polish more things to bring better feedback to the player, but yeah glad that yoy like it, i focus the audio creating 3 original song and playing with the audioeffects x3

thank you so much for playing x3

Submitted(+1)

The audio focus definitely came through. The music and sound did a lot for the atmosphere. Thanks for sharing a little about how you approached it, and congrats on getting it finished!

I like the old-school point and click adventure games, but I believe this one needs a bit more polish.

Lest's start with the gameplay. There is no way to tell if the object is interactive or not. Normally in the games like this there would be some hint- an outline of an object when the mouse pointer hovers over it, a cursor changing into a hand/ eye/ something else, or a text like "take knife". This leads to the player clicking on everything at random hoping it's usable.

The writing feels a bit sluggish for my taste (see how many times you have the phrase "Ten years" on the screen in the first five minutes. My advice here is to have first draft early and then update it over the course of the jam. Better yet- have someone with a critical eye read it.

As for the presentation- the sound and music are ok. The graphics... well, using AI art makes the game have a AI art feel. Not only this- on the intro screen you have a bunch of tools laying on the table and they look... strange. Not even "if you focus on it" strange. More like "scissors don't look like this". I know the pain of not being an art guy. I either try to team up wito someone, or use assets, and spruce them up with shaders and lighting.

Over all- there's potential here, but in needs more work. Keep it up!

Developer

Hello, thank you so much for your feedback, yes to be honest this is my first time createing this type of games from zero, is my first time writting a history for a game, i actually just create the idea or a simple idea to develop the testing game.

Yes the art would be beter, after this if the games like or the idea is to focus with some artist i have in mind to recreate all the art, the characters and more.

I love that you enjoy the sounds and music, i only could create 3 songs and take other 2 i create for others projecys or jams XD but i would love to continue creating more old style and mysterious soundtrack.

I really appreciate your feedback man, thank you for playing, all the info is noted x3

Hi, congrats on getting your game out there!

I'm not a big fan of AI art. I know it's allowed in this jam, but the overly detailed, generic images lack personality and make the game feel bland. Because of that, I had a hard time staying focused or getting invested in the rest of the game, which honestly isn't bad. Personally, I'd pick programmer/beginner art over AI "art" any day, no matter how bad people think it looks.

I would say audio seems the strongest part overall.

Developer

To be honest i alreary has the artist wortking in the background and in the characters, this was like the first idea of the game and for the time decided to use AI, i always prefer not to, but the time. Actually the idea is to recreate all the art with some artist and all the feedback i get to complete a new version.

Also thanks, the musis is totally created and hope to share the songs in a future.

Thanks again for playing and for the feedback.

Great work, this feels very polished and the story is intriguing! Everything works as it should, so no notes really.

Only thing is we couldn't progress once in the workshop, we clicked on everything but nothing worked. Could you give me a hint? We really want to see what's next :D

Developer

witch part, the worshop at the start of the game or at the end searching the key door and the ubication of the secret?

1- The worshop at the begining you should search for a knife that will help you to cut the manequin and then save them

2- The key is safe in the abandonned room next to the old mans workshop

3- When you enter you must investigate 4 things in the room that activate a little flash back, the manequins, the bed, the table and the ground whereis a wood piece that is different, then you should search an instrument that help you open the wooden floor and searh what is hidde under the ground, where the thump sounds is stronger.

Developer

Hello thanks, and yeah maybe should add something that give you feedback with the clickeable areas, thanks so much for playing the game x3 ♥

Played this and got pretty immersed in the experience for the duration of the playtime, although i couldnt proceed beyond a point. Well done on building the atmosphere and narrative! I have read the original story from which this was adapted and i think youve done a good job story wise. In a short duration of time, you were able to do some nice world building and character building and the mechanics supported this well.

A few suggestions on improving this - While i love the original audio which nicely builds up the tension and effects like the footsteps and the heartbeat (which grows in volume when you move?) etc. which help the atmosphere building, for the gameplay itself SFX seem to be light, for example when i click on anything clickable there should be an immediate response audio-visually. I understand that since the images are complete images its difficult to show animation for objects but even a small clicking sound or some particle effect would help the gameplay greatly. Since the activity that the player is primarily doing is pointing and clicking, it should feel really satisfying. A drawback of this genre of games is that if youre stuck at a point, theres just no way ahead which was the case for me! So usually i would recommend that you add some hints to nudge the player in the correct direction if a certain amount of time has passed.

Your take on the theme is quite unique and ill give you points for that for thinking out of the box! Overall i think you did a great job in building up a really nice narrative which fit the theme quite well and it was an interesting experience!

Developer

hello thanks so much for playing and for that great feedback, yeah to be honest im new creating this kind of games, and the time of course plays agains me, yeah i will take all that info to make better the game and more enjoyable.

Thank you so much and i love that you like it x3 ♥

I really liked it; I didn't expect the bit with the chest. I really enjoyed the visuals, although I feel that at times they worked against the experience. I understand the mechanic of visually exploring the environment; however, some elements were quite hard to spot. That might have been the intention, but for impatient players, it could be a reason to stop playing. I really liked the sound design—it truly immerses you in that fictional world—though I would change the music at the train station; it sounds more like a song than the actual atmosphere of the setting. Otherwise, it was excellent—an interesting and very well-rounded experience. I enjoyed it.

Developer

thanks a lot, yeah i get out of time to create more music so i used an old one created for a previous game, thanks a lot for playing and i take your feedback, thank you so much x3

Submitted(+1)

Amazing visuals. Very professional work. Doesn’t seem like the game was made for this game specifically, unfortunately.

Developer

is a combination yes, sometimes i try to combine two ideas in one, but the theme still works with the histroy of the game.

Thanks a lot for playing, yeah i take my time to create the history, the music and code all in just 4 days x3 thank ypou so much for playing.

I'm in the old house, but none of the doors unlock and I can't seem to drag or select the key.

Developer(+1)

yeah is a bit harder there, next to the old man room there is an open door, there you can search in some drawers another key for the room.

The key you have al the game is for the last part inside that room.

Submitted(+1)

This game feels technically capable but lacking any soul or creativity

I saw a lot of heavily story heavy games / point and click based games. This one feels relatively basic in terms of those types of games. I still think the gameplay is good, as I enjoy these types of games, but there isn't anything that would pull me to this game.

Visually the game feels too generic, and the scenes being so heavily detailed make it hard to figure out what we can click on, adding a white highlight to clickable items would be useful.

The audio is good. I enjoyed the music, and the sound effects were well placed and very accurate. Great job here.

The theme felt pretty loose, and while I do understand the story, and why its linked to the theme. It felt slapped on rather than something that was thought about long ahead of time, and would only make sense if you knew that the game was based on the theme of "Long way Home"

Developer

hello, thanks for the comment, yeah maybe a should add something more usefull for the clickeable areas, a try to focus in the story, is my first time trying to complete a story, i take the challenge to try something different to be honest, the music and sound yeah that part i love that you enjoy it, try to create something nice, 3 new songs created for this project.

If the games like, i will take advise to adjust the things and off course with more time i have some good artist to create the new backgrounds and characters x3

Thanks a lot for the comment x3
