I liked the art of the level. The controls felt nice as I navigated towards the balloon. Seeing how returning an artifact gives an ability, I was thinking there was an ability intended for the large enemy because jumping on top of one only worked on the small enemy. Also, good game entry for being unfinished too!

Developer

Thank you! I didn't have the special ability for giving the big guys damage nailed down yet but I still wanted to show off Livi's cool art of them. I am glad you liked the game. Thank you for playing.

Gotta aggree with what was said before me, what we have her is good, but of course it ends really soon, which is a shame because the art looks super lovely.

Graphically you have a clean art style, really like the dragon, that said, the counter on the top left corner breaks he rules.

Gameplay wise, I’d advise looking into buffer zones for the camera, so it is not directly glued to the player, and cancelling the glide would be more intuitive with pressing down, instead of up.

Music and sfx were great! Well done!

overall we have a nice base here that you can build upon in the future! Cool “demo”!

I like what there is, but there isn't much.  Also slightly breaks the rules of the Game Jam (I count five colors, including the number in the upper-left), and generally feels more like a NES or GBC game than a GB game.

(Also, I like the pun in the title) :D

Looking forward to seeing this one finished!

Developer

Thank you! I totally spaced removing the counter before uploading, haha. Thank you for pointing that out :)

Great SFX and music! I also love the art design, but after I took the balloon to the dragon and got a double jump, I didn't know where to go next?

Developer

You did perfect. There is snow here to go next. That was all I had time for, haha. Thank you for playing!

I love the fact that the old dragon's artifacts are esoteric, like a balloon, rather than traditional treasures.

The platforming is smooth, and the balloon granting double-jump and glide feels like it heralds a grand opening to another part of the game, should you continue to work on it.

I greatly enjoy the spritework, both the big and small dragons look good (the big one looks *really* good, in particular. That's the level of pixel art prowess I wish I had). I did notice the sprite layer does misalign with the background layer. It appears to be the result of freeform positioning on the upscaled viewport, as opposed to freeform on a 160x144 screen that is later upscaled. This happens to a lot of jam entries, so its a common tripping hazard in a lot of engines.

The musics been on loop the whole time I wrote this review. That tells me it loops well and is structurally pretty good.

At this scale, I could see screen-crunch being an issue with a fully developed powerup system. But, the GB Megaman games are *notorious* for screen crunch, so that crunch might be just how things go.

Even as just a prototype, this is a good entry for the jam.

Developer

Thank you so much for all this feedback! I did not know about screen crunch and what that was till now. Livi will be so pleased that the music loops nicely. He did a great job composing the songs. Thank you for playtesting this game and being so helpful.

The art here is gorgeous, that big dragon sprite is a standout. Controls felt nice and tight too, it really plays like an actual Game Boy cart. Would love to see where the full version goes!

Developer

Thank you! The big dragon is def one of my favs in the art. I cannot wait to get more of this up and running.

It looks stunning! I especially liked the big dragon design. I can't wait to see the full game.

Developer

Thank you! This gives me motivation to keep working towards the full version of this!

Visually, the game looks absolutely great! The controls feel good. Unfortunately, the game is short, but it makes for a good prototype.

Developer

I appreciate your feedback. Livi did really amazing with the art and I am looking forward to making it into something more.

Visually very appealing, a bit confusion on how to defeat enemies

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I did make the mistake of making the bigger enemy unable to be defeated in this version so I hope a future version of this game clears that up. Thanks!

Pretty cool game, I also felt that I lost my jumping power but soon after I knew how to do the next power. Even though it was only one balloon, was nice to traverse with speedy dragoon.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! I am getting some ideas for the next iteration and making the jump and glide mechanics work better. I am so glad you liked it!

I really liked this game and it really felt like a Gameboy game! After I gave the first balloon to the dragon it almost seemed as if I jumped lower because I couldn't make it past the first jump after. But good game!

Developer

Thank you for playing and for your feedback! We are looking forward to refining it further.  Many thanks!
