Very cool tiny planet idea and I liked the characters. I was able to finish all the tasks and gather the crew.

I did get a bit motion sick but also partially because I had trouble finding the crew mates, maybe a navigational marker could help with that.

Developer

thanks for playing , it definetly had a bit too much aimless wandering , markers is a great idea , that way the planet can be bigger too without feeling lost

Nice little planet. I couldn't defeat the sea monster though, couldn't tell if I was doing something wrong but the gun didn't seem to do anything. Seconding that it could use a bit more polish on the interaction in order to reach all the props and the boat controls; Like the props actually collided with the throttle and could push it, and the steering behaved oddly after a while. Nice voice acting and character models though, simple but soulful.

Developer

thank you for the review , definetly have to focus more on removing janky interactions next time

thank you for the feedback , the sea monster was the sea gull , thought it would be funny but obviously a bit confusing

My playthrough:

This was interesting for sure, was not expecting an adventure with quests, the camera quest was nice, the fishing rod was fun, I didn’t quite catch what the pirate wanted me to shoot so I went around a bit aimlessly. Quite straight forward experience. Fun voice acting. Lost my throtle handle completely at random one time so had to restart lol.

Random Suggestions:

  • have some kind of menu explaining the controls and what is going on maybe
  • better engine sounds
  • larger horizon/area around the boat, I felt a bit motion sick for some reason, I usually never do
  • add subtitles as well on top of the voiceacting, I didn’t quite catch a few words that are only told once to the player
  • hand menu with quest tracker/objectives would have been nice

thanks for the review , great suggestions to keep in mind next time

hahaha, where did the throttle go. Thanks for the playthrough and suggestions, very enjoyable to watch!

Really cute design.

The visuals, models, sounds design are nice. The controlls felt a bit clanky.

  • boat controlls are clear and easy to steer, awesome.
  • fishing is intuitive. The main problem i had is that when i already caught a fish, i did not know how to actually give it to fisherman..
  • gun was a bit confusing, i understood that there is a reload, its just there was no reload indicator (sound)…

I finished the game in ~10min, it was really fun :) Again the voice lines are awesome (and timings are nice).. really liked the french guy! He made me laugh when i couldn’t find the mountain :)

Super charming - I loved the concept! How is the planet done? The amount of it you see at once makes it look a lot smaller than it must be based on the amount of stuff drifting around. The art looks very nice too. Great job!

Unfortunately, the boat was quite difficult for me to control and I got too motion sick to keep playing after doing only two of the "friend mini-games"

I played the WebXR version on Meta Quest 3 and it looked and performed quite nicely :-)

The planet is a basic sphere collider with all objects casting a single ray downwards and on collision with the sphere a y+ force is applied so they also stay buoyant. Over the sphere is an area that overrides the gravity to the center of the sphere and everything is pulled towards the center.

Tested some other shapes also such as cube, torus, but the objects didn't stay well adrift or had troubles getting the gravity to work.

Thanks for playing and reviewing!

Just played the entire game to completion on Pico 4 standalone, it worked pretty well, with some framerate issues, but that is to be expected, standalone VR is hard to get running decently at all 😅

I think the concept is good, but the execution could be a bit better. The mechanics can be a bit fiddly at times... my main problem is that I kept accidentally hitting the boat controls with my fishing rod/pistol. Since the ammo for the pistol is right below the throttle control, its hard to reload your gun without accidentally touching the throttle and throwing off your position. I would've put the ammo on the left of the boat instead of the right.

I also got quite nauseous at first when playing, although I figured out if you keep the boat going in a straight line it feels much better.

I liked the voice acting and models, they are quite charming and humorous. Also, the water shader is really pretty! 👌

So yeah, hope my feedback was useful 😁 (hopefully I wasn't too harsh... I genuinely want to help give constructive feedback to improve the game)

Developer

Good to hear it was running in Pico standalone and yes, we really lacked the time for final polish.

Initially we designed the controls to be a rowing motion with oars, but couldn't figure out the best joints and physics for this to work, so the other driving method was a quick fix.

Thanks for playing and reviewing!

The tiny planet was really fun and I liked all the little interactions with the friends. I was afraid of getting motion sickness, but it turned out to be a non-issue. Great job!

Very cute environment! I love tiny planets. I liked the character too. I had hard time controlling the boat and grabbing stuff though. I still enjoyed it.

I love this. Very fun and funny. Good job

Great fun, would have loved the boat controls to be on one hand with a rudder design. Or a wheel. Or at least some sticking to zero throttle easily. Got quite confusing. Also object pickup and selection could use a bit of projection to avoid the arm reach issues. Unclear what to do with some of the items but overall very entertaining once you do figure it out.

Loved the horizon idea, really captured the exploring and the comedy was top notch. Overall the visuals fit and the audio matched in well. Nice experience all round.

Did the playthrough on twitch.tv/kimau VOD should be there

Friends Ahoy might have been a better name :D.  I got too to used the controls... Thank you for recording and for your review!

I recorded my playthrough

I loved the idea, the art, the voice acting. I might have spent the whole video whinging about the interactions and motion sickness but that's only because I really felt the game at it's core was great and worth trying to power through! A bit more time polishing them and it will be a real treat.
Developer

thanks for the review , definetly ended up with some jank , the sea monster was the pigeon on the rock btw lol

Developer

Thanks for the playthrough. Very enjoyable to watch!

Classic case of works on my machine where all of the controls are positioned fine but may end up odd on others. Just did not have enough time this time for polish. The controls are Jolt Rigidbodies with different joints to try out GXDK, which may have not been the best combination.

For others wanting to try the game out, try recentering and repositioning yourself by moving physically closer to the controls.
