The slow descent was so unnerving! That feeling of “something’s wrong, but what?” I think my only criticism would be the lack of a… butchering mechanic to accompany the grinding. Can’t figure out how to mark as spoiler so ROT13: Ybir gur gjb whfg znxvat bhg bire n qrnq obql. Edit: apparently it works...

This has really put me off my mince D:
Love the cut out characters and the small town feel to the story. It feels so familiar and relatable. This really makes the eeriness so great and unsettling...
Great work!

meat grinder mechanic was genius.

the pacing of the story was perfect for the jam.

loved the aesthetic feel of everything and the writing made it 10x better.

the VN was able to do so much in such a short period of time, great work!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! As the writer, this made me really happy 😭😭😭😭😭

this is a really well made game tbh, from the story and the characters development (and the description of their relations) to the UI, the music/BGM and the sprites. i really liked it!

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Watching the UI and art come together was one of the best experiences behind the scenes.

I think this is the best horror VN I played in this jam so far! The first half of the story set up the scene very well. The beginning was slow as it introduces the characters and their relationships, yet it kept me hooked. I think it is because all the subtle hints the story showed during the introduction (the way Danny and Jay talked about Tiffany, the meat grinder + spooky sfx, Tiffany's lipstick) created suspense. The second half is actually terrifying. The contrast between their calm dialogue vs their actions is brilliant. Also, despite the crazy things that happened in the story, I find it quite believable for Jay to do what he did. This means that Jay's character is well conveyed to the player, which is really incredibly hard to do in a relatively short VN!

Developer

Thank you so much!!! I'm glad you saw the length as a plus, as the writer I was a bit nervous that it might have ended too abruptly. (But I also wanted to be realistic about the deadline.) And the second half was one of my favorite things to write, just the way they both sort of dissociate from the experience ^_^ And yes, Jay just wants that woman BAD.

I had a great time playing meat grinder!

A very short concise experience, that had lovely art and characters and a very well paced story~ I could see more tales being told in this setting and universe you guys have created! Personally I did not have a problem with the meat grinder mechanic as others mentioned, and I thought it was a great way to break up the game!

Great job! Happy Spooktober!

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! I do have some ideas floating around, let's hope my friends and I can wrangle them into their own games soon ^_^ There's also a few things we wanna add to this game, but hopefully it won't bloat the experience~

Happy Spooktober to you too!

I love what you’ve done with the UI, the dithering effect, the visuals - all of it! The wrench was a little confusing (as its not exactly mentioned how many times or how to operate it) but other than that… great job!

Developer

Thank you! Shout out to Kenny and Sully for those bits ^_^

Amazing experience! At first I thought that it would just be another romance game (I have no idea why on earth are there so many of them on a horror visual novel jam) but I was very pleasantly surprised! Graphics and music were really good too. My only issue with this game is the meatgrinder mechanic, which almost made me quit. I was sure that the game was broken since I turned it a bunch of times and it didn't do anything. And just as I wanted to give up and write here about a bug I did it one more time and what do you know: you just have to do it a bunch of times and nothing in the game tells you this, nor is there any visual change that could indicate it. It's horrible from a game design perpective and I'm afraid that it might make more people quit, which is a shame as they won't be able to experience this game.

Aside from that the game is very solid.

Keep up the good work!

Hi!  I'm really glad you liked it!!! I'm so sorry about the frustration with the grinding scene-  We had plans to add some cue-in text and some graphics to tell the player about the mechanic, but unfortunately, we ran out of time before submission, haha.  I am glad you brought it up though so we could add it to the itch page for now until full release is out!! Tysm for playing, we super appreciate it!
