Ok, Hi! usually it's our programmer who responds to all these comments but I thought as the writer I would be the one to respond here!
Honestly, I want to thank you for the criticism....This was my first attempt writing a game and I didn't realise how disjointed the story could come across depending on which route you go down, as the few people I had look over my work were all Angel lovers even before having read the game and I think its something, that, because of the rose tinted glasses we held over the character, we didn't pick up on these narrative issues. The presentations of Angel I have planned diverge depending on which route you end up on due to your responses up until the break in - paths break off there and until then, while your choices do matter because they dictate your ending, the story is all linear and you end up in the same situations no matter what choices you make. Angel was supposed to unsettle, and the idea of him being caught off guard was supposed to read as a comedic moment of levity before a very heavy scene - but I can see how, on reflection, it an be jarring though.
In terms of the graphic, I'm sorry it was so misleading....It was my fault because a big part of how I was aiming to market was without his face...and having him be a cute boy under the mask also wasn't the original intention at all. It was supposed to play as him always smiling in an unsettling way but the art didn't fully come off as that. I do eventually was to do something with the analogue horror vibe and that was again, the original intent for the project, but as the story got away with me we lost that aspect to the project and that's my bad.
And now for me to give my biggest excuse and arguably the worst one: I was extremely busy this month, not just with the Jam but major life events got in the way of my writing and so things being disjointed, there were major writing flow issues on that end. I'm certain I am not the only one who dealt with issues such as those during the jam and I am certainly not claiming to be the only person who struggled, on the contrary I'm sure a lot of people did, but it made the writing get away from me, this script hadn't even been properly looked over for grammatical errors (They were picked up by our programmer as they integrated it).
I do certainly want to change things and want to go back in to rewrite sections while I write the endings to try and get this project more to how I initially envisioned, AND SERIOUSLY this was some really good constructive feedback, and it means a lot to me to get this so that I can aim to improve as a writer overall and go in to improve the script. I'm sorry you weren't able to find joy in our game as it was all my fault and nothing to do with my team.....I hope that I can do batter and fix this so that I h=can make it a more enjoyable experience overall.
Sorry and Thank you,
Rynn - the Writier
