Guys, this is a really good game! 🎃

But first, honestly: at the start I didn't understand how to play. I tried every key, I thought changing clothes was broken, and I almost gave up. Then I got it:
1) The Tab key closes the clothing menu — it was quite hard to figure this out, since I rarely read the description on a game's page.
2) The icon over their heads shows when they see you, and the right clothes make you one of them.
3) A large stripe at the top — for when you’re exposed as an uninvited.
After that the game was great!

I love the idea. It's the reverse story: usually the monster is uninvited, and here it's us, a human in vampire clothes at a monster party. How can they not see me? 😄 The atmosphere is super, the music and the sounds are very good, the art fits the theme (the pumpkins!). I had a lot of fun. For me it's the best game I played in this jam, 5 out of 5, or 10 out of 10 😄

One tip: a short "how to play" at the start (how to change clothes, what the icon means) would help a lot. Without patience I could miss this great game.

🎬 I recorded my whole play!

Thank you for this game! 🎃

Thanks a lot for playing and recording! I'm so happy you enjoyed it!

Once the full release is done - I invite you to try :)

And the thing is I was doing it solo - I wish I had more time to add everything I wanted, including a tutorial. At least it doesn't seem to have real bugs :D Well, there is one you can call a bug, but you need to try hard to find it.

Btw, you missed one fun feature: when you go with the wrong dressing to any room, even if it is just 1 item and the other two are correct - they say "Zombie/Ghost/etc! You are uninvited here". And they also get alerted and run to you to inspect you and steal the item. The idea behind it - if you are partially dressed as a zombie and came to ghosts, they think you are a zombie, check you, realize it is just a costume and the item disappears back to its original place  (maybe they punch you - it was broken and just respawned).

P.S. No idea why I stopped on Tab as the inventory button, and not the I button.

Thanks for the game! :)

I think I caught a couple of those moments where you put on the wrong costume and they start chasing you—though maybe that didn't make it into the final cut :)

Really great game! I love the atmosphere, the music and art style :) I like stealth games and the idea with the wardrope and customes is good! I didn't finish it though, they always got me eventually :D

Great work!

Thanks for playing :) Happy you enjoyed!
Here is a path that always works for me: take any head - go to the room of that head - quickly take a key and/or an item - dress a new item - try a new room - repeat the procedure till you can unlock any door with any key - take last 2 items - dress a full set - complete the game! Hope it helps :)

Love the game, I did go with my guts and face a witch with my hat, sadly they did not believe me XD
Good mechanics and great separation in the rooms, sadly the inventory is small cant go through every room with all customs.
Great work!!

Developer(+1)

Thank for playing!
That was a design decision - I even thought to make the inventory smaller to better justify the drop mechanics and to force players change cloths/take-drop items more often and face " damn, cant take new items, forgot to clean the inventory" moments :D

The more witch cloths you put on - the less chances they notices you. Or actually the longer time you can walk around unnoticed :)
The same for any monster rooms. But walking with zombie/vampire/ghost cloths in the witch room give you no extra protection at all! Plus they may steal the cloths from you (and it spawns back to where it was stored initially). Because at the end - no one is invited unless you are a member of their monster group :D

The mechanic of sneaking in among the monsters as a human was really exciting and thrilling. It would have been even better if the inventory system were more streamlined. Keep up the great work!

Thanks for playing, glad you  enjoyed it!
Could you please share how you would like the inventory to be?  thanks!

Because of the limited inventory space, I had to leave overflow items on the floor. Personally, I think it would’ve been great to have an item-stacking feature or some sort of separate storage!

Developer

Thanks, I see now.

But sure if I want to move to broader audience it is important to make more tests with different people, collect opinions, see the average demand. If most players want bigger inventory - who am I to ojbect :D  As devs of Dragonwilds showed - not all you design is a good thing, but the fact you change it quickly by listening to the player base make you a hero :)

Another great entry!
Your sound selection was so good, the witches and vampire sounds were so great they made me chuckle. Little touches like the movement speed just felt right too, so the overall handling and feeling was really nice I really enjoyed playing this!

Developer

Thanks for playing! Happy you enjoyed!
I tried my best to find the coolest sounds for the game :)

Yeah, everyone tries to caught you. Especially vampires - those guys love to stare a lot! :D

What a fun and good looking game! I loved the mechanic and the story and it was really fun to play!
Only issue (but not in small mode) in fullscreen you can't see the full inventory and it stays open after changing costumes. But that didn't really impact my playthrough! Thanks for the game :)

Developer

Thanks for playing! Happy you enjoyed it!
You can close the inventory with Tab button. E in the wardrobe is just an extra way :)

And the fact you cant see the inventory in fullscreen is interesting...what is your screen resolution? or ratio?
I'm not sure what my current settigs  - whether it is 16:9 or not, might forget to check it...time pressure was harsh :( But on 2k 16:9 it seems to be ok and I really hoped it scale good. Need to check in Unity. Thanks for noticing!

Really good job very fun game worked perfectly was fun to play so great job! only thing is the inventory stays open witch kind of blocked the view a little

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks a lot for playing, glad you enjoyed it!
Please check the controls section in the game page - the inventory is closed/opened via TAB. E button in the wardrobe zone is just a second way to do it.

Dont ask why TAB, not I or C as in other games - I have no idea, realized it only post factum :D

Buddy, you did a really nice job. The only thing I would do would be to slow down detect bar. No body likes a game where they can't even get through the first level.

Developer

Thanks a lot, glad you liked it! Thanks for playing!

Quick question: are you sure you went into the right room, the one that matches the mask you picked at the start? The detection time is tuned on purpose. It gives you just enough time to do what’s intended for each number of matching items. With 1 item you can grab a key and one more item, maybe not in a single go. With 2 you get a bit more room. Only with all 3 can you make it to the end of the zone. A zombie mask gives you no protection in the witch salon, and the other way around, so if a zone feels too hard, try changing into the matching costume first. That’s the core idea of the game.

P.S. I personally could grab a key and/or item being without any costume - it is possible with a good timing between patrols, though not with all rooms I think.
