An incredible game! While it's technically a fairly traditional arena shooter, the execution is something else entirely. Here are a few things I'd like to highlight.

  • No settings menu - I would have really appreciated the option to lower the sound effects volume without having to turn down my entire system's volume.
  • No pause menu - If something comes up during a fight, there's no way to step away without consequences. This is especially important in fast-paced action games. Players shouldn't have to prioritize a game over their personal lives. Since this game is relatively short and can be completed quickly, the issue isn't too noticeable here, but I'd definitely recommend keeping it in mind for future projects.
  • Absolutely fantastic work in terms of visual! Everything is hand-drawn and follows a consistent art style, giving the game a really appealing visual identity. The graphics remind me of the classic Doom games, and I think that style works wonderfully here.
  • The gameplay mechanics are VERY interesting in their execution. Eating enemies to restore health, a fire shotgun that takes distance into account, and the creatures' screams are all unusual touches that give the game a distinctive charm. These ideas make the gameplay feel much more memorable.
  • Main menu deserves special praise, too! It looks great and feels like more than just a panel with three buttons. The animation of the protagonist pointing toward the buttons adds a lot of personality. It's great to see that, even with such a short development window, the developers managed not only to build the game but also to dedicate some of their limited time to its presentation.
  • I did notice that the main menu lacks bg music. At first, I thought the game might not have any sound at all, or that something was wrong on my end. So when the sound finally kicked in after I started playing, I was a little confused! The overall presentation is already quite good, but I think a few details like this could still use some refinement.

Overall, the game turned out really well! The developers accomplished a lot in such a short time, especially considering that there were only two of them. From discussing the initial idea and developing the concept to implementing the game and polishing individual elements, you've clearly put a lot of work into this project.

Wishing you both continued success! We'd be happy to hear more from you in the future. Great job! ❤️

Genius game, top contender for this jam for sure!
Love the sound effects, mouth noises for the win!

Developer(+1)

A top contender?! You're making us dream big now, haha! And as the guy behind the mouth noises, I can't tell you how happy I am to see them getting so much love! Thank you so much!

Chaotic as hell and I absolutely LOVE it LOLLL
The soundtrack is a banger, and seriously, the art style makes the whole thing even better! Impressive screaming sound effect btw lol I've devoured everything and smiled like crazy from the start to the very end! This is amazing work!!

Developer

HAHAHA I love your energy!! Knowing you were smiling like crazy while absolutely destroying those poor innocent flowers makes me so happy! And I'm especially proud of those screams, my vocal cords really gave everything they had for this game LOL!

As for the soundtrack, I actually tried making the music myself at first, but I wasn't really sure about the result, so we ended up going with royalty-free music instead.

So glad you had such a blast playing our game !

Submitted(+1)

Yo what the hell was that HAHAHAHA ❤️

What an absolute banger! I couldn't get enough of the death animations! Just pure fun the way gaming should be.

This is an absolute gem and I'm all for it. Made me laugh out loud several times. Great job!

Developer(+1)

HAHAHA that's exactly the kind of reaction we love to see!! We may have gone a little overboard with the poor flowers, but hey, they had it coming! Knowing our silly little game actually made you laugh out loud is probably one of the best compliments we could get! Thank you for playing and for this amazing comment!

Submitted(+1)

Interesting art and soundtrack. It's fun; it made me laugh.

Developer

Making people laugh while committing crimes against innocent flowers is becoming our specialty HAHA! Happy you had fun with our little game, thanks for playing!

The poor tutorial beaver 😂

Good bite-sized jam game with just enough progression.

I actually enjoy the billboard assets, the rocks remind me of Okami's. Also seems like a smart way to prototype quickly in 3D.

I enjoy the nods to the retro FPS style. Have you ever tried Trenchbroom? It's a tool for making Quake style maps, including stuff like the Valve 220 format. You can import these to a modern game engine with the help of some middleware/baking tools.

Developer(+1)

HAHAHA the beaver taught us everything we needed to know, including how to eat him! What a dedicated teacher!

Really cool that you noticed the billboard assets! We had to find ways to make things work within the jam's time limit, and we're pretty happy with how it turned out!

I had never heard of TrenchBroom before, but it looks like something worth checking out, especially if we ever make another retro FPS. Thanks for the suggestion!

Really loved the artstyle, simplistic but very fitting. The player and enemy designs and animations are top notch ( especially how the flower punches the player) and the controls are fun and fast paced too. Very well made :)

Developer(+1)

HAHAHA those little flowers may look adorable, but they sure know how to throw hands! We had so much fun bringing them to life, so seeing someone appreciate their animations is awesome! Really happy you had fun with our game, thanks a ton!

Submitted

LMAO 😭😂 They throw hands better than most of us. Would love it if you checked out my game too! A rating would mean a lot ❤️

OMG this is incredible! Was this inspired by DOOM by any chance.? I feel a kid-friendly DOOM aesthetic XD

I especially love the screaming by the monsters when you DEVOUR THEIR SOULS! :D

Developer(+1)

HAHAHA YES, DOOM was definitely a huge inspiration! Although I'm not sure how kid-friendly a robot brutally devouring innocent flowers really is XD

And I'm SO happy you enjoyed the screams! Every single one of those poor creatures was voiced with my own mouth, so hearing people appreciate my ridiculous noises genuinely makes my day AHAHAH!

OWHH I like this game a lot!
I already beat the tree monster in the end and craving for more.
The art feels unique and blend nicely with whatever concept you guys are trying to, in a way I love it.
The sound effects especially the plant voice does really makes me giggle.

Kudos guys!

Developer

I'm especially happy the plant voices made you giggle! I had way too much fun making those ridiculous noises with my mouth, so seeing people enjoy them really warms my heart!

Honestly, I wouldn't mind making a longer, more polished version of the game! My teammate isn't quite as enthusiastic about the idea though, so we'll see what happens HAHAHA!

Thanks a ton for playing and for all the kind words!

loved the minimalistic artstyle that perfectly highlights the atmosphere and gameplay, really good work

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you so much! I'm really glad you liked the artstyle! We wanted to keep things simple while creating a nice atmosphere, so it means a lot to hear that it worked!

The art and sound effects are fantastic!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! I'm really happy you enjoyed the art and sound effects! It means a lot!

Loved the doom/wolfestein vibes, the shooting and consuming is adictive despite being repeated so much. Only critique i can think of is that there are very few enemies per stage and that the boss fight should also include them.

Aside from that bravo.

Developer(+3)

Haha, Doom was definitely a big inspiration! We actually wanted the final boss to be some kind of Super Saiyan flower, and the tree was originally supposed to be just a regular enemy! Unfortunately, we ran out of time, so we had to change our plans. Here's a quick sketch I made based on an illustration of Goku! Thanks for the feedback, we really appreciate it!

This art reminded me of the protagonist from a B1t jam game https://hardlysapient.itch.io/daisylife

Hi!

The art direction is bold, and from my perspective, it perfectly blends the Doom and Cuphead vibes in both the gameplay and the environment (and that's no easy feat!).

As a designer, I learned a lot from the choices you made with the sound design and atmosphere. You took a risk, but the result feels original and genuinely entertaining. I think the most unique and fun part is the voice acting (are those your own voices?).

I was also really impressed by how well you scoped the game. It was 10 minutes of fun, originality, and a great learning experience from a game design perspective.

Thanks so much for all the effort you put into this!

Best!

Developer(+1)

Wow, what a lovely comment! Doom was definitely one of our inspirations, but Cuphead? That's a comparison we didn't expect at all, haha! Such a huge compliment!

And yes, those are our own voices! We had a lot of fun making all those ridiculous sounds with our mouths, so seeing people enjoy them is absolutely hilarious!

This was actually my very first game jam! My teammate had more experience than me, so I learned a ton throughout the whole process. It's really cool to hear that someone could learn something from our game too, especially from a game design perspective!

Seriously, thank you for taking the time to write such a thoughtful comment!

"You win... Right?" Secret Ending somewhere? :o

Awesome game, having a different scream for every enemy was a great choice. Big fan! Very entertaining. Love the title screen as well.

Developer (1 edit) (+1)

I would've loved to add a secret ending, but unfortunately, I ran out of time... Maybe in a sequel or a remake LOL. I'm proud to say that all the enemy sounds were made with my own mouth XD . Thank you so much for your comment!!! (also i say it again but I REALLY enjoy your game)

Submitted(+2)

That's so awesome, some real voice acting talent XD

right back atcha!

This is such a fun game. The goofy Doom-like game mechanics mixed with the amazing art is great and I love it all. I also appreciate how each enemy has a different sound effect for when they are getting devoured :)

Developer

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMMENT!!! ❤️ I'm proud to say that all the sound effects are actually MY VOICE XDDD 😭 I PUT MY HEART AND SOUUULLL INTO MAKING THEM SOUND GOOD!!! Your comment really warmed my heart!! Thank you again!!!

Submitted(+1)

No problem <3 making your own sound effects is fun and surprisingly easy. I normally make my own as well, however I ran out of time and there were a few sound effects I could not make (such as walking on snow). Anyways you did a great job so definitely be proud of yourself :)

Developer

Yeah, I see what you mean . Thanks again, I really appreciate it!!

Developer(+1)

I think this design doesn't get enough credit, so I'm posting it here.

I've never been this disturbed and entertained at the same time, great game

Haha, disturbed and entertained at the same time? Sounds like our game is doing its job! Thanks for playing!
