Nice game! The visuals are really nice. 😊 Two small suggestions: a few more animations would bring the world and characters to life, and snappier controls would make it feel even better to play. Solid entry, well done!
If you get a chance, I’d love for you to try mine too
I liked the story mode did your son write it ?
Yes and no. It is based on a children’s book called “One Cheeky Monkey” though he changed the dialogue and only included 3 animals while the book goes through 8 different animals. So yes, a modified story, but no, not completely his own original ideas.
Nice work! The story only mode was a nice touch. Keep making games!
Fun idea. Somehow this reminded me of the really old lion king platformer game.
Thank you! Actually, the game we first used for inspiration was the old Cosmo's Cosmic Adventure game from the 90's.
It was a fun game! Quite an unexpected setting for a Halloween jam, but it gave me a really nice nostalgic feel and reminded me of some old-school platformers. Nice work!
Ideas for improvement: play a bit with layers, constrasts and depth. It was not always clear enough what is game layer, what is back, what is front, etc. E.g. currently it make me feel as the water is just a paper and the animal is paper behind it, and the animal inside the water. While tree sharpness is not matching the player sharpness - so it feels as trees are just a part of background and not the part of interactable layer where you can jump.
And having sound settings menu would be cool - elephant sounds were a bit loud. :)
Thank you for your feedback. A sound/music setting option was on our to-do list but we ran out of time!
Honestly it never crossed out mind to make it Halloween themed. We assumed October was just a coincidence as we don't live in a place that celebrates Halloween. So we focused on the idea of being unvited and settled on a monkey being misunderstood and rejected by animals until he finds his place with his friends.
Got it, sure the game matches Uninvited theme - no questions here.
I was rather suprised it is not related to the Halloween because Halloween is literally in the name of the jam :) It is like meta topic or whatever you call it. It is like Vegan 2026 Jam - but the game is about meat, Arcade 2026 Jam - but the game is souls like :D
Yeah, it is not really part of our national holidays list as well, but it is just so popularized by western movies that it is hard to avoid association between Halloween word and all that elements. Again, good game, nice work, just shared my sincere surprise)
Excellent game. Well programmed, no bugs, music good, sound good, graphics are excellent.
One thing I would update is it was difficult to determine where there was a platform you could actually land on. Maybe different colored leaves?
What did you use to generate the graphics? They are very good. Was it ChatGPT? Claude? Something else?
Thank you for the suggestion. The graphics were made by ChatGPT.
So, was it hard to get ChatGPT to do what you wanted it to do. Sometimes the prompting can be a bit tricky. Also, the sizing can be difficult as well.
It worked out okay. The sizing of the sprites wasn't a huge deal as we could use Unity's scaling to grow or shrink them. We did have a resize a few items such as the monkey hand custom mouse cursor. Once we got the comic size we wanted, I would share it and ask ChatGPT to make one the same size for the next panel. I find working with ChatGPT to be very managable, especially if you share a lot of details. My son, 11 years old, would write 1 sentence requests and have trouble getting things to look right. But I write whole paragraphs with many details about what exactly I'm looking for and it produces very good results. Of course, it still isn't perfect every time, so sometimes I have to say, "no, not like that. Instead, do this..." But for creating sprites, comics, and background images, chatGPT did well for us.
Thank you for the reply!
It is good to get your son to start designing and programming at an early age.
Nicely done, with a bit more polish this can become a nice little platformer
Thank you! We learned a lot and had fun as our first ever game to attempt. A platformer seemed the easiest style for our first game.
Nice design and controls, and the story comic is a very nice touch.
Great job team!
Thank you! It a fun and educational to make this.
This is a fun platformer with a very cute and charming aesthetic. Nice job!
Thank you! We had considered a farm game for the "uninvited" theme similar to yours but opted for a monkey trying to find friends instead.
