Really cool idea and great audio! I just wish the game was a little more clear with how to progress. I figured the story out pretty quickly, but I don't think the game allows you to end before the timer hits the halfway point, which caused me a lot of confusion and anger because I thought I was missing something. Either way it's a cool submission.
Hey thanks for your comment, and glad you liked the audio!
Totally agree about it not being clear how to progress. Actually, once you click every readable item, then the option to progress pops up, which isn't the best solution and the plan is to workshop a better method after the jam.
Thank a bunch for playing!
This was so fun!!! I love reading and felt all detective-y while playing this game! The music aswell adds to the overall vibe!! I tried both endings to see what the dialogue would be and it really adds more to the mystery! and gosh I'd like to give props to the main menu screen cuz its so well done! I also love the models of the characters and the sfx! I was being a bit of a dum dum tho cuz lowk it took me 2 mins to realize the lil folds on the paper is how u turn the pages hahaha
Cool game. I thought by the title screen that it was going to be a 2d game, and I was wondering why it was destroying my crappy pc while loading. Good job though!
Damn, I got the bad ending :( I had a feeling too, but I second-guessed myself at the last minute! There's a certain detail I want to ask about, but I don't want to spoil anything here lol. Needless to say, the story had me hooked, especially towards the end.
You guys really nailed the old detective noir atmosphere. The environment and music did a lot to sell it, only thing missing was the cigarette smoke, lol. I loved the typewriter presentation too, and going through the case files and newspapers looking for clues was fun. All the little details in the articles helped make the world feel believable. Pretty impressive mystery you guys put together for the jam!
My discord is timisrad, ask me your question!
Thanks for the kind words! It's actually really cool to see that some people are getting the bad ending. We wanted the choice to be genuinely tough, but solvable.
So glad you enjoyed it, thanks a ton for playing and commenting!
This game has a great aesthetic! The opening menu design is so well done, and then once in the game, you did a great job putting the player in the detective mindset with the lighting and sound design. I did encounter the UI offset issue when playing in fullscreen at first, but the problem is fixed when playing in the game window on the itch page. Once I figured that out, I was able to flip through the file and newspaper pages. I particularly enjoyed all the article titles and details in the newspaper. One note I have is that the dialog feels like it types out really slowly (but the typewriter text box is soo cool!). Overall, this is a really impressive game and a cool story!!
Thanks for playing, and thanks a million for the feedback!
The speed of the typewriter is actually something we haven't heard yet, so that's super valuable! I totally think a setting that controls the typewriter speed is a great idea and would accommodate people who read at different speeds.
Glad you enjoyed it!
It's good to see a detective game in the game jam. I think the story is quite clever in presenting the mystery and the solution by finding information through the newspaper and dialogue.
The controls are a bit clanky and I had to spam click all over the place to see if something triggers. I've only learned about the other pages in the case files and newspaper because of the other comments, but inside the game it's not very obvious that you can click those areas.

I also wanted to drink the coffee but it's not letting me! βββ(βΈβΈ>βΈβΈ<βΈβΈ)ββΎβΎ
I like the choice of music. It's atmospheric. Very noir! The art is also good with the mix of pixel art and 3D. I think you were able to present the characters well despite the short interactions. Perhaps, in the future, you can expand the mysteries surrounding the doppelgangers and you will be solving different cases related to them.

Thanks for the feedback! The world in general needs more detective games >:D
Drinking the coffee didn't quite make the cut before the deadline, all that happens is a sound effect at the moment, but we want to make the level of the coffee go down the more you drink in a future update :)
You definitely hit the nail on the head with the challenge of presenting characters in such a short game, and there's definitely room for improvement and expanding of the story later on.
Thanks a bunch for playing!
CASE CLOSED! I had a great time playing through this, especially reading through everything. Really made me feel like a detective! Like the others, I did have a hard time understanding that I could flip the pages. I would also say that I felt that the timer impeded just a little, as it added stress to the game that I didn't feel it needed. I would sit in that cafe all day going over a case. Other than that, everything was fantastic! I'm a big fan of the music here as well; it really caught that vibe. Great work!
Ah thanks so much for playing, and I'm stoked to hear you liked the music!
Thanks for the feedback regarding the page flipping. We are definitely planning to put some fixes out after the jam regarding making some things clearer, including page flipping and knowing when you have a new piece of dialogue from a character. I'm glad you enjoyed reading through the story, too!
Thanks a ton for your comment!
The art of the game is so so good, the process of solving a mystery was really satisfying too. The art esp was really tasty, I really digged it. I feel like there was too much to read though? I don't mind reading but it would've been nice if the reading part was made easier. Otherwise, a really really solid game. I love mystery games in general
Really atmospheric game, cool visual choices (the typewriter, oh my god, so good). I'm a dummy and couldn't get the good ending, probably due to my bad English lol. I'd definitely play a full version!!! (Twin Peaks vibes +++)
Omg thank you so much for the art! Twin Peaks was definitely a big inspiration for the team, so I'm glad you picked up on it!
Also, you're not a dummy, there ARE two endings, but it isn't as clear as it could be, and that's something we want to improve after the jam. Thanks so much for the feedback!
Iβve been told it was a cool game, so I came try and it was indeed a cool game! It took me a while to figure out how it worked though, I didnt understand for several minutes that you could turn pages in the files or the journal, by the time I got it, I only got a couple of minute left and I run out of time to solve the case :/ that made me wonder: was the timer really necessary? I refreshed the page to start again, this time knowing the controles and really enjoyed solving your case. One little little regret, I didnt feel like my notes served me at all at the end because of the reward the client gave us. It felt like a missed opportunity to use our knowledge of the world building to make the good decision, if it make sense.
On an other note, I really enjoyed the artistic direction, such a strong ambience and the typewriter is a nice touch! building a mystery game in such a short amount of time is super ambitious, GG!
Hey, thanks so much for the feedback!
Totally agree that it could be a lot clearer on turning the pages. It's something we definitely want to fix but didn't get to it before the jam deadline. Will definitely implement that in the future!
The timer is a great point too, and we went back and forth about that, and how long it should be. Ultimately we decided to include it to give a sense of urgency, but your experience is super helpful feedback that we will take into consideration.
Thanks so much for playing our game!
As an avid fan of the detective genre of games I was really excited to give this game a try, and it didn't disappoint! I did run into some bugs that made the game unplayable on my first attempt but after restart everything was working aside from the occasional issues with the mouse. The art and music were incredibly well executed as well as the sound effects, and the mystery was very fun to unravel. This was quite an ambitious project but you guys did great, definitely one of my favorite games of the jam!
This is such a great compliment, wow~! Thanks for playing and so glad you enjoyed our game!
Oh my God, what a cool game! The whole feel of it is perfect, down to the little details with the VFX and art. You guys really captured the essential feeling of a classic detective game. The tone shift was done so shockingly well, immediately felt terrified!
I did come across a couple of bugs, like the game not working after trying to do a 2nd run, which was a bummer because I wanted to see the other ending! The function to click and fast-forward the typing effect also breaks after the first conversation, which then caused me to accidentally skip through the bartender's dialogue about changelings, which can't be replayed.
I also couldn't figure out how to use the notebook. I couldn't seem to type notes in it or anything, or turn pages.
I liked the detail of having a noise indicator for when you learned valuable new information, but it would also be super helpful to have a visual indicator!
The game, even with the bugs, is an impressive feat in 2 weeks. Your team should be proud of themselves!
Hey, thank you so much for the feedback! Sorry you had experienced so many bugs, we're glad you enjoyed the visuals and VFX so much!
The notebook should be typeable so I'm sorry it wasn't working out for you, similar to the case files and newspaper the will flaps at the bottom are supposed to be for flipping between pages.
A visual indicator was being worked on for the new information, but it wasn't able to be finished in time for the deadline so it had to scrapped. Hoping soon to add this change and get the 2nd run working in the future!
Oh My God. This is the coolest game i've played so far!!!
The art - amasing. Very atmospheric. And the combination of flat pixel art and 3d world is very well done! I adsolutely adore the typewriter dialogue box!
The music and sound effects - perfectly complimenting the artstyle!
The Main menu even, it's so cool how you made everyone in the credits into little photographs!
The writing - it was so cool reading all the articles! The ending sequence made me really nervous!
And the little details, like the coffee cup and the fact that things shift in your periphery - it adds up so perfectly to the overall spooky yet cozy detective vibe! This is an amasingly well done game, all of you people in the team did such a great job! :D
Wow, the atmosphere on this one is through the roof!! It feels appropriately somber. It took me a second to understand how to navigate the game, but the mystery was intriguing once I figured it out!
Thanks a bunch! Loved your game, by the way!
Genuinely scary game xD I love the atmosphere, it was so well done, especially the music and art was super immersive, and I loved the newspaper snippets. Does the game actually have a bad/good end? I still can't 100% tell if I got the right one or not xd
I did get some issues with the UI, for example sometimes the mouse would disappear and I had to navigate out then back into the game to get it working. Also the UI for the newspaper was offset so the click to flip pages bit was a bit hard. But overall one of my fav games so far in the jam !
Thanks for playing!! I'm glad you enjoyed the game. The art and sound team did a great job - I have no idea how they make it look and sound so good, but i will definitely let them know you liked it. As the UI dev I know we've had some issues with what you mentioned and hope to get it fixed soon. I think the text shifting is related to the aspect ratio of your screen.
There is a win/lose mechanic at the end. For example, if you lose, the final screen will be splattered in blood.
Thank you so much for the review and feedback!!
I loved the vibe of the game so much! Beautiful assets and a fun premise. I will say that it did take me a bit longer than I'd like to admit to realize I could flip pages of the newspaper, so I was stuck for some time.
Ha Ha, thanks for playing! the UI navigation is definitely something we noticed needed work. I think we will put it some arrow buttons to make it more clear. I will tell the art and asset magicians that you appreciate thier work!
thank you for the Feedback!!!
This was a pretty interesting game!
The gameplay was a little confusing as I didn't know I could turn pages. The mystery was intriguing though, my only complaint is that there is a little too much reading but I liked that it gave us clues into the world.
Overall, I enjoyed it. Keep up the great work!
Hi, thanks for playing! I agree, the pages are quite unclear at the moment. I think we will hopefully try to improve it by adding arrows soon!
Glad you liked the game and thank again for the review!!!
