I'm sorry I don't think I can rate this it keeps crashing on me. :(
Oh no I’m so sorry :( I’m very new to coding, but hopefully after the jam is over I can upload a more optimized version. Thank you for giving it a try!
It's all good, I might play it if you put up the optimized version. Thanks for playing my game. Good luck!
I love your game <3
It's cute, the narrative is interesting and the making into a game is really well done. It somehow made me think of this game: To the moon. Do you know it ?
The game art, music and sound effects also serve very well its purpose. I think it's my favorite game in this jam so far.
I agree with misiak shifting from WASD to arrows was a bit of a brain-trap, but to me that's a very minor detail.
Oh wow, thank you for the kind words! I have not heard of ‘To the moon’, but I’ll for sure check it out :)) Glad you enjoyed!
Nice and engaging story :) I liked the end, where our hero changed his mind :P I would personally change the maze movement to WASD from arrows, as my brain just glitched, but it may be just me. Did you use Godot Dialogue Manager plugin (I used it as well)? I liked the sound of this "speech/voice gibberish" that you used :) I liked the game, it was an interesting interactive novel with very cozy and nice music and art :)
Glad you enjoyed! I did use Dialogue Manager, and just added the speech gibberish separately :) Huge time saver for sure. Thank you for playing!
very cool storytelling, I like to do mundane things ;p
Haha me too :) Thanks for playing!
I really liked the game, the story is good, the setting and the music give a good feeling.
Thank you so much for playing :)
You nearly made me tear up in the end, great writing :)
Aw, thank you so much for playing!
Really dug the story aspect of the game. The art style was cute and the game was fun! Bummer I got stuck in a repeating dialogue though...
I see some people have said this already, but for me the biggest improvement would've been movement, it felt very slow and sluggish.
Otherwise, great entry to the jam. Good work!
Aw man I’m sorry about the dialogue! I’m gonna fix it after the jam is done. About the movement, I was trying to make it seem like he older but looking back idk if it worked the way i intended :P Thanks so much for playing!
Love the game! Mind if I share a few suggestions for improvement?
The controls felt a bit heavy. Maybe using some sine or cosine interpolation to make the movement feel more dynamic would help! I really liked the mix of gameplay mechanics, dragging things with the mouse and clicking around.
That said, I think you should keep the controls as simple and consistent as possible. If you start with WASD movement, it might be better to stick with that instead of switching between different input methods.
Unfortunately, it kind of bugged out at the best part, when I had to control the other character. The dialogue never closed, so I couldn't see the full screen or control the character. That's as far as I got, but I was really hooked by then, so great job! You definitely managed to build up to a nice climax!
Thank you for the feedback! I'm still really new to coding so all advice helps :))
I agree about the controls, I definitely should've kept it the same lol. And yea unfortunately the game is kinda buggy as you can still open the mini games while inside of them. I wasn't able to find a fix in time :P Thank you so much so playing!
Very atmospheric! It was a bit wierd for the controls to switch from wasd for moving and then arrow keys for the radar minigame.
Yea, I agree, I probably should've kept the controls the same :P Thank you so much for playing!
I really liked the game! I think I can tell what references you had in mind. The only thing that I had an issue with was the grass hoppers spawned off the screen. But I think you did really well for a jam game!
Thank you so much for playing!
I really liked the art and the writing was good, too! I ran into a similar bug as others with being able to trigger the dialogue boxes multiple times, and then having to mash LMB to close them all. The use of the theme felt more narrative than mechanical, even in the maze challenges, but it was at least used more than once. The mini-games were a nice setup of routine and establishing the history of the player's character.
Overall a great submission, congrats!
Thank you so much for playing!
Very sweet story! I played to the end, the little tasks helped pace it out nicely! I got a bit confused at the flashlight scene because i had been using WASD for movement but for that part i had to shift to arrow keys, but it was all good once i saw that. The food cans were clever too, they let me know that I had 3 days, which kept me wanting to keep going and see what happened. Well done!
Oh wow, thank you for the kind words! I'm so glad you enjoyed :)
I got stuck during the flashlight scene, but I really liked the pixel art style!
Oh no, I'm sorry! Were you unable to continue?
I encountered a bug where I lost control of the game and the text kept repeating, so unfortunately I couldn't finish playing.
very sweet story with a nice art style!! it was a bit buggy and i had to restart due to being stuck in looping dialogue as it blocked the radar, but very worth pushing through! great job!!
Oh I'm very sorry about the bug :( Thank you for playing!
no worries! it was ultimately a pretty minor bug, you did great! ^^
why am I getting choked up at a game jam game...
this was great, art style, game play, story, everything. I would love a longer version of this
Aw omg, I'm so glad you enjoyed! Thank you for playing :)
HOW DID YOU DO THIS WITH 2 PEOPLE IT IS A FREAKING MOVIE THIS DESERVES IMAX. Felt Like Interstellar watching it.
Lol it was just me, and some very veryyyy long nights. So glad you enjoyed!
Loved it! Across the board. Simple but effective art style; enjoyed the little touches with the chores; and the writing was great. Would've enjoyed more of the flashlight sequences, but given the amount of work you put in in such a small amount of time I understand the length. Great job!
Thank you for playing!!
I really liked the “mini-games” in between the story, even just grabbing a can of food added weight to the whole!!
The controls felt a bit floaty (maybe that was to convey the age), it was as if you were walking on ice, but it wasnt a big deal either!
I think you did a great job theme wise too!! Nice job!!
Thank you so much for playing!
Great job! I got through the whole game and enjoyed it but have some constructive feedback for you:
-I encountered a bug (not game-breaking) causing the maze level to retrigger, starting the dialogue over while the timer was playing. The timer reset again after the dialogue ended for the second time. I was able to finish it but had a huge head start on the maze as a result of seeing it a bunch.
-The audio glitches and crackles pretty annoyingly during the dialogue. Depending on how you implemented it, you can probably fix this by increasing the web output latency in the project settings (assuming the issue wasn't happening when testing in the editor, in which case it might be a different problem)
-The player movement being WASD and the maze movement being arrow keys felt like a genuinely bizarre choice. I'd really strongly recommend allowing either control set for either scene.
-MORE FROG FEEDING, I WANT TO FEED THAT FROGGY MORE CRICKETS PLS hahahaaha
Don't worry, the frog got fed plenty while I was testing the mini game lol. Thank you for the feedback, I really appreciate it :) I wasn't aware of the audio crackling before so it's probably the issue you mentioned. Thanks for playing!
It was charming and I was very relieved it ended up with good ending. Such a small window you had to come up with very simple but also very emotional narration, you have good heart, well done.
Oh, I'm so glad you enjoyed! Thank you for playing!
