Nice game. Though it seems impossible to find the fox again once it teleports away.
Could use more polish but this is super cute! I would like to see more variety of offerings, more environment variation, and more little animations to make things feel more alive. But there's already plenty of lovely details - I especially love the intro/tutorial being done in an ink painting kind of style, that's a great touch! Well done for challenging yourself and thanks for sharing your game!
Trust me i'm also super impressed with how the art turned out!! the artists did an amazing job. And I'd love to add more to the game after the jam is over. As always crunch limited us alot (i was mostly struggling with coding the main mechanics this time xd)
Thank you for playing and commenting! π¦
The art is soooo pretty and I love the sort of Japanese painting style used on the UI! So good! The fox is adoreble and I just wanted to pet it!
Fun game! Only feedback would be that maybe the fox can spawn further away from you when you look away to make it a challenge to actually find them in time. For me they kinda always spawned a meter or 2 behind me so I could just run to the food without worry - turn around and feed the fox. But was cute so I didnt mind!
Thank you!! I'll be sure to pass all the compliments to the artists too! :D
And I'll be happy to keep experimenting and updating after the jam, so thank you for the feedback! (the fox teleportation actually is super simple right now haha, it will always teleport behind you) but i am currently experimenting on more randomized teleporting to add a bit more of a challenge! Thank you again for playing and commenting!
RAHHH THE FOX IS SOO SO CUTE Your art is so so nice too!!! The colors and the environment mesh so well too I'm just so in love. I'm not sure if this is a browser issue for me but after looking away the fox was gone, and I tried looking around and I couldn't find the fox. It gen might be a browser issue on my end. Other than that, very very good game!
AAAAA THANK YOU FOR THE COMMENT :D
The fox is supposed to disappear, though you're supposed to be able to find it again by looking around! (BUTthere is also an issue on my part where i jacked up the teleportation rate too much, so it becomes impossible to find again if you don't turn fast enough in some cases </3 ) it's also been reported by other players so it might not exclusively be a browser issue on your end, don't worry! thank you for reporting it! (also, your game is one of my favorites in the jam π₯Ή)
I WANNA PET THE FOX βΈβΈ> Μ« <βΈβΈ
aaa thank you for playing! I might actually add more fox interactions/animations once i get the chance and time!! π¦
Love it! Mechanics and tutorial onboarding were very easy to understand and I like the usage of the teleporting as part of the limitation. A little personal addition could be leaves or a puff of smoke when teleporting. I'm also not sure if it was just me but it seemed the fox in some runs would only teleport in consistent positions like left/right or front/back of where it last was.
I'm really happy the tutorial was okay! I was worried it was getting too convoluted so I tried simplifying as best I can. I also considered the poofs, along with falling leaves as details, though I was worried particles were gonna affect performance too heavily in web builds (but I can definitely experiment with different ways to do it! I really like the idea of smoke where the fox was, to indicate that it vanished purposefully π¨)
also it's definitely not just you, the teleportation mechanic overall is pretty simple right now (i was struggling really bad with it :'D skill issue on my part) It basically always teleports behind the player. I'm experimenting with abit more randomized teleporting now, though.
but again thank you so much for taking the time to play and report the issue!
Really cool idea! I love the art and concept behind a mischievous fox hiding from you when you are not looking. The only frustration I had was finding the fox. The map is pretty big for how fast the timer moves down and it just feels like the second I lose sight of the fox, I'm doomed to fail unless I get lucky and run into them. Otherwise very solid game and nice polish overall!
Thank you for the feedback! I'm taking note of the issues with the fox teleportation, and I've been experimenting more with it to make it a bit more fair and enjoyable (my way of coding it was pretty questionable lol, resulting in problems like infinite teleportation if you don't turn fast enough)
But again thank you for playing and taking the time to report the issue! :D
so cute, the art is so good! and It was fun looking around for the little guy after i collected my offerings.
only issue i ran into was when i tried to play again it froze on me.
Great game!
Thank you so much for playing!! And thanks for catching the freezing issue, I'll add that to the list of what to fix! :>
Nice use of limitation and art! FIND THAT FOX!! Great job with your game and thanks for sharing!
It has been mentioned already but camera sensitivity was still pretty low even at max sensitivity in the settings
Thank you for playing and letting me know the issue! π¦π I'll be tweaking it further after this :D
This game art wise, looks very impressive. The idea of the fox disappearing after looking away from it is a neat concept to apply the limitation. However, the gameplay is just really hard because of the low camera sensitivity and the fact that the fox could be anywhere along with the fact that the timer just moves way too quick for me.
There is an option to change sensitivity in the settings :) but do let me know if it is still too slow, even at max.
I'll take note of the timer, as well. it appears to be too fast to some and slow to others, so i'll work on balancing it more in the future. Thank you for playing and giving feedback!
I like the 2D art in the game as well as how you used the limitation! Currently, it's quite challenging to find the kitsune after they teleport away, and I realized when I'm spinning in circles looking for them, they will keep teleporting, making it very hard to find them if they're too far or behind a tree. The way I was able to win was by never looking away from them while gathering food, though I wonder if that's how you intend the game to be played - I think it's more fun if the player has to chase them after the teleport. The teleport SFX is helpful for finding them, but I think it can be louder or replaced with something more continuous so the player can find them even after some time has passed after the initial teleport. Cute game and great work!
thank you so much for the really detailed feedback! I definitely turned the teleportation cooldown a bit too low, there's alot i need to improve on in terms of balance. i hope all the spinning didn't make you too dizzy! π nevertheless, I'll take your input in mind when i develop this a bit more. thank you again for playing! π¦
i love the design of the Kitsune! great game
thank you so much for playing!
Really beautiful and fun game! Great environmental design for the cozy autumn feeling.
Thank you!!
Awesome take on the limitation! The gameplay is sweet and charming!!
Thank you!! I definitely had to scratch my head a bit at the limitation lol ππ
