Very entertaining! Love the voice acting and humor :D

I will start with: the game DID NOT lag for me, despite using firefox :) It was very dynamic, I like it. Somehow I sometimes missed the clicks despite being pretty sure I'm clicking on the frog :P Played it twice, also read the verbose rules in the settings. The audio was a biggest addictive factor I think (apart from gameplay), but I liked the art as well. Fun little game for killing some time :)

Developer

Thanks so much for playing! Whoa, I was certain firefox was the issue after finally installing it to try for myself. The mystery continues!

So there's two things I'm aware of that could be happening. One is something I didn't include in the verbose rules, which is that the targetable area of a frog adjusts slightly based on how well you're doing. It didn't feel like a big enough change to draw attention to, so I didn't mention it. If the frog you clicked and missed was highlighted/targeted (it should be outlined if it's catchable), that is a bug I hadn't encountered but that I resigned to the possibility of, caused probably by one of two things: 1. The frogs can be "targeted" and outlined when moused over even if they aren't "catchable" yet (or anymore). You can't catch the frogs when they're hopping into or out of the play area, and making them appear to be visually targetable in that time was an oversight (it happens so fast that I just didn't notice). Another thing that actually DID happen once during testing is that the frog catching doesn't behave properly when frogs are overlapping. I adjusted the math to make this "impossible" but didn't actually do the calculations, so I may have gotten it wrong and you may have gotten REALLY unlucky. I kinda doubt that's the problem since I tested thousands of rounds of the game and it never happened once since I changed the numbers, but this kind of stuff always seems possible if you "eyeball" it instead of truly doing the math haha.

Glad you enjoyed it, and especially glad you enjoyed the audio! This jam for me was really a deeper dive into learning Godot's audio systems so I don't make as many mistakes to clean up in my main long-term project hahaha.

Unkeylievable!

This may seem unrelated but playing this game reminded me of all the colorful, juicy grubs from Lion King. I should go out and grab some gummy worms myself.

Everything felt very right: the colors, UIs, the puns, and the announcer hahaha. Great job!

Thanks for playing! And hey, I wasn't directly inspired by that, but one of my favorite animation creators online is Aaron Blaise, who worked on the Lion King, so maybe I've finally successfully absorbed 0.00001% of his immeasurable talent! I just love that people on his level make videos covering their process at all so we can learn from them.

And oh boy, the announcer was such a fun character to record. My game VO debut hahahaha, I've been hyping myself up to try getting over the fact that I don't really want to hear my own voice while I'm testing my games and finally gave it a go.

Incredible polish! Love the audio design! I didn't find the flashlight all that useful, but just clicking on the frogs and seeing the sights was pretty neat. Great work!

Developer

Yeah, the flashlight signals to you which frog has a key in each wave, and I kept thinking it was too obvious what it was for and how to use it and kept making the signal less and less clear until I ended up realizing the flashlight had become almost useless and it was too late in the week to go back or add a progression that starts with it being extremely easy to see what it does. Oh well, I can add that later if I make a full game out of this! Glad you liked the audio design, that was kind of the centerpiece of the jam for me this time.

This reminded me of Nubby's Number Factory, with surreal vibes in a good way
Very well rounded entry, but for me the highlight is the sound design for sure
Great job :)

Developer

I've never even heard of that! I'll check it out. Thanks for playing!!

this one has an insanely snazzy aura, i really liked it!! i played through the firefox lag and still had a blast. i didnt really get the theme sadly, but everything else is genuine expert level. having a high contrast and game speed slider is really smart for accessibility too. very great job!!

Developer

Awesome! Glad you had fun, even with the firefox lag hahaha. A lot of the theme stuff ended up not quite being player-facing. So there's stuff in there in the back end of the game that's related to the theme but I didn't have time to finish presenting it clearly to the player, so I genuinely think I deserve a low score in that category. There's always next time! Thanks so much for playing!

This is such a polished entry, well done. I particularly liked the audio design, the announcer was my favorite addition.

Developer(+1)

Thanks for playing! I'm glad you liked it. I had basically resigned that I wouldn't have time to do the announcer voice, but after testing it for awhile I decided it would be such a fun addition that I pushed it to higher priority than a lot of the powerups. I wish I had time for both, but I'm satisfied with my decision! The voice was SO FUN to record and doing it ended up being a really nice break from programming.
