Hey! appreciate all the voice work and jokes :) always satisfying to knife a monster in the face :)

Developer

Thanks so much! Our very first instinct was to go with a gun with a lucky last bullet, but we pivoted to knives when we were still planning to go for the one pack challenge, and we're so glad we did! It wouldn't have made sense to do things like pinning to walls otherwise, and that ended up being such a great mechanic. Glad you had a knife time!

Holy moly. What an accomplishment for one week of work. Even I, who am terrible at these types of games, made it through a fair chunk. Thank you for the difficulty settings!

Developer

Thanks for persevering! Thankfully we had some friends and family playtest it a couple of days before the deadline and we realised that the settings we'd been playing on were way too hard, so we added the difficulty settings and the tutorial prompts. What is now hard difficulty is what the game would've released as otherwise! I think we really dodged a knife there!

That was awesome, especially for a game jam; really good job guys! Reminds me of Doom :D Great job from the voice actors too !

Developer

Thanks for playing! I know my accent wasn't perfect but once I found Tex's voice I had a lot of fun adding in new voice lines everywhere, haha

And my daughters had a great time recording for Mira, especially since they got to drop a couple of f-bombs 😂 it was a real cut up!

Gave this a run! Really ambitious scope for a jam project, and the knife-crossbow combat mechanic felt super unique to play with. Best of luck with the rest of the jam!

Developer

Hope you had a knife time playing!

consider me mind stabbed, great work.

Developer

You’ve been mind stabbed! Thanks for playing!

This is incredible work for a game jam, so much polish and great game feel! The slow "tutorial" start works great, and once you pick up the weapon it's just a ton of fun. I love Mira's snarky remarks when I miss a shot too lol

I would absolutely dive into the blade-realm to recover my weapon in the future if I had the chance :')

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing our game! Mira actually has two different voices that we slice between in different runs as Ben’s twin daughters both wanted a shot at voicing the character.

This is seriously impressive work! It feels like a professional-level game, and it’s crazy that you managed to put this together in just 7 days for a game jam. The amount of polish and ambition is honestly amazing. Huge respect for pulling this off in such a short time!

Developer(+1)

We surprised ourselves! What helped us is that Ben focused on game mechanics while I focused on level design. so by the end of the third day we had the full game done, albeit very grey box. and then we just kept plugging away adding the individual pieces. We essentially ran out of things to add yesterday, because we didn’t want to break anything. Unlike usual we weren’t cutting things fine.

Submitted(+1)

That’s honestly such a smart way to approach a game jam! Having time to polish instead of rushing to finish must’ve made such a difference, i know from experience, haha

The load was def worth it. I really loved the "see your run" feature.

Developer(+1)

Thanks so much for playing!

Ben surprised me with the see your run section on Monday or Tuesday. Real cutting edge stuff.

Hey buddy, you've got a great game here with lots of potential!

Killing enemies with the knives felt really satisfying, and I loved hearing your little companion's comments while fighting monsters.

I think this could turn into a really fun full game with a cool story. I especially liked how you mixed the gameplay with storytelling and humor.

It was really "knife" to play your game! I hope to see more of it in the future!

Developer

Thanks playing our game, glad you had a knife time playing it. I’d like to see where we could take it.

i loved the trivia bits during loading. sometimes they faded out really dark and were hard to read. would be nice if there was an sfx or music change when loading finished since i’d moved to another window without realizing it finished.

the lighting outside the manor seems a bit bright for the mood but maybe just a web issue. voice acting was really funny, i liked the cheesy lines.

i think you have the same annoying bug on web I encountered in my own game where your mouse teleports sometimes which can be pretty annoying, might want to add a check to dampen impossible movements.

had a pretty big lag spike when jumping into the operating room but otherwise it performed pretty well.

Overall I think the was a great time and played right through without thinking about stopping. nice work!

Developer

Thanks so much! As you suspected the outside lighting is a web build issue, the download version looks and feels much nicer :) Good point on the music change after load though, wish we'd done that!

Developer

Thanks for playing, I think I noticed that mouse teleporting issue last night, but it was too late to do anything. I’ll look into dampening big movements, after the ratings period.

Looking forward to checking out the other games toknife.

Damn! Epic Presentation and Gameplay!
It felt like i was playing Doom with a protagonist having the knifest personality!

Developer

Thanks for playing, glad you have a bladey good time!

The first time i tried to play it would not load at all after refreshing and going through the process again it finally loaded and I am blown away with the mechanics and how complete it is for a week

Developer(+1)

Thanks for sticking out the long loading screen. The itch issue earlier broke a few games I’ve tried.

Knife to hear you enjoyed the mechanics. :D

Submitted(+1)

The load time almost made me give up, but man, I’m so happy I stuck around! Literally perfection across every single department—mechanics, atmosphere, and polish. Worth every second of the wait. Incredible job!

Developer

Thanks for waiting, and glad you enjoyed it! Load time is definitely better on the native builds, and you get nicer lighting and better performance as well :)

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks so much for sticking it out, I hope the funny lines helped ease the wait time.

Depending on what system you have the loading can vary wildly. My dev system is usually 50 seconds on web, but 5 on windows. But my laptop is 90+ seconds on web and still 5 seconds on windows. It turns out the shaders only process in a single thread on web.

So fun! The homing knife was a great idea. This was so well put together, 10/10 would knife again.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for knifing!
