Cool game. Cozy vibes. No complaints. Good job!

Great game! Other comments have already addressed the switching between modes, which I agree with.

The point-and-click flow was really satisfying and rewarding, and I enjoyed the dialogue with the ghosts a lot! The theme and limitation were well implemented, and the art and music complimented each other and served your game well (that funky bass line was so catchy!) Especially for your first jam, you should be super psyched at the quality and polish of this game, I'd be thrilled if I submitted this for my tenth jam!

Took awhile but I finally had some time to play this game and I'm really glad I did. The art was really charming and frickin LOVE point and click games, so this was great. The puzzles were fun and the dialogue was pretty humorous! Really wished it was a little longer but I really enjoyed what you've done.

I want to give some constructive feedback if you don't mind. I think some other people has already pointed out, but I'll state the issues from my experience. I felt like the mode switching should have been a UI button or something as I kept accidentally switching and had to leave to find out how to switch back. It's mainly due to space advancing the dialogue. I also had some issues with the keys where it doesn't seem to work, which made me go on a hunt to see if there's any other locks before trying the same door/box where it magically works then. Maybe the dialogue could disable the room switching as well or another fix could be implemented, as I kept exiting the room by accident during dialog and when I came back, somehow managed to break soda ghosts dialogue and had to replay the game. Hope my feedback helps!

Overall I had a blast. Thanks for making this!

Thank you so much for playing! So happy you enjoyed it. Also thank you for the feedback, this being my first jam as a developer I’m trying to get as much as I can.

I’m planning on doing a post Jam patch that fixes the key issue (turns out its just a weird hitbox), and am currently working on making the controls more intuitive. I actually really like the idea of a UI button, I’ll have to try that! Would work great for mobile I think. I’ll take a look at the bug with the ghost dialogue as well.

Again thank you so much for your insightful feedback! I’ll be sure to update the game in the future. Thank you for playing!

I'm looking forward to the update! Thanks again for making this game :)

Ultimate party: unlocked!

This was a lot of fun. Great little puzzles to solve, and good art + writing. As Maxsito called out, it's worth spending a few iterations on the controls here. I also ended up switching modes by accident more often than I'd have liked, and that extra prompt I had to dismiss before I could try using an item negatively affected the pacing for me. One other thing to watch out for is those mixels! It was pretty easy to spot items I could interact with (thinking about the tape specifically) because of the difference in pixel sizes; this could discourage more exploration of the space unless you wanted to intentionally make an item stand out like this.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and for your thoughtful reply! Post jam I’m definitely going to push an update to fix the controls. I’m thinking it’ll be left mouse button to advance dialogue and have space bar only switch between search and grab. I’ll also remove the “Use on what?” dialogue. Also thanks for the art tip! Still early on on our pixel art journey, so I’ll be sure to keep an eye out for that. Thank you again for playing and commenting!

Great point-and-click style game! I have one note: needing to press space after clicking an item in the inventory to advance the dialog of "use on what" was really unintuitive, especially since space also switches to inspection mode. This meant that I was constantly accidentally switching to inspection mode instead of using items, which got really annoying. Rather, clicking an inventory item should not trigger any dialog and just allow you to click an item in the scene to use it on immediately. To indicate that you are using an item, a cursor change is all that is needed.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! That makes a lot of sense and I really appreciate the feedback, I can see how that can get annoying. I'll look into it and see if I can update the controls to improve the flow of the game once the rating period is over. Again thank you for playing and for your feedback! It is very much appreciated :-)

Such a cute game!! Love the art, music, and narrative; truly a classic point and click style game <3

Wah this is my favorite jam submission so far! Really loved the art direction and vibe, I enjoyed the writing too, and it felt really polish and good to play!

Developer

Wow I'm honored! So happy you enjoyed it. My partner and my sister helped with the art, so they'll be thrilled to hear that! Thank you for playing :-)

Really fun game! The limitation was used in such a creative way, and I really enjoyed figuring out the puzzles. Very well done!

What friendship! To still hang out during Halloween and have a party even after death ♡

This was really cozy and cute (˶>⩊<˶) I really like it!

There are a bit of inconsistencies, but maybe I made unexpected actions. I already have the two keys and I tried it both for the box and the door, yet nothing happened. It only worked after I went to the first ghost to check my status. Other than that, it was awesome! Similar to what the other comments said, it is very reminiscent of point-and-click escape-the-room games from the past. Thanks for the nostalgia ⊹ ࣪ ˖⏱ ୭˚. ᵎ

P.S. What was the name of the epic anime on T.V.?!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing and I am so glad you enjoyed it! I was going for that classic vibe, so I'm happy to hear that I matched it. I'll take a look at the bug you mentioned. The chest's hitbox is a little off so it may not always detect even with the key... Hoping to update that post jam.  Thank you again for your kind words!

P.S: Definitely JOJOs :)

When you said JOJOs, my immediate thought was: "Wasn't there someone with a username NotTodayDio in the game jam?"

Remembering JOJOs, this song is now stuck in my head:

Really enjoyed this one!  So much fun and it reminds me of the oldstyle point and click games.  Very cozy and on theme.  We shared a lot of themes with you in our entry!  Great time talking to the ghosts and discovering how to solve their puzzles.  Sometimes I had to talk an extra time more than I expected but I got through all the puzzles and loved partying down with the ghosts.  Cheers well done

Developer

So glad you liked it! Those classic point-and-click games were my direct inspiration, and I tried hard to really capture that vibe. So happy you thought so. Thank you so much for playing and for your nice words!

Bro  stop drinking the soda!

I loved this game! Reminds me of the puzzle and escape-room style games I used to play as a kid! What a unique approach to the limitation, too. Took me a while to find that dang water bottle, but was definitely satisfying when it all came together. Great job on the game! Would absolutely attend these guys' party.

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed the soda drinking ghost! So happy you enjoyed the game. Thank you for playing!

It was a lot of fun exploring the house. Quite a unique idea that the tasks undo themselves everytime you leave the room, and to prevent that you have to do another task. I loved the art especially the pumpkin looked so cool.

BTW I found a bug where the game crashes when you use the knife on the first ghost.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words! I spent a long time trying to make the puzzles feel satisfying and match the limitation, so I’m glad you enjoyed it. I’ll take a look at that bug, thanks for letting me know!

love this game! it was fun exploring

Ah, what kid growing up didn't love Phanta? XD Loved the pun, btw.

Loved the music; I was jamming the whole way through! It was really fun investigating the house and discovering all the little details and bits of info you gave to things like portraits and windows. Made exploring and clicking on everything feel worthwhile. The art had a lot of personality too, and I like how the puzzles had you going back and forth between rooms, figuring things out.

And man, those ghosts sure know how to get down at the end there! I did indeed want to stick around XD. Really fun little adventure, nice job!

Developer(+1)

I am so happy you enjoyed it! Thank you for all the kind words. I really wanted to make investigating worth it and fun, so I’m glad you enjoyed that! If I had more time I would have added way more descriptions. Thanks again for playing!

What a nice puzzle game! I've always liked this type of gameplay. Got a bit stuck with the yellow padlock since the hitbox was slightly below and I thought it didn't work but made it through in the end. Also loved the overall vibe and art. Good job.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing! So happy you enjoyed it. Hoping I can fix that hitbox post jam :)

I truly love music in here! But also I got stuck a little on the start, when your cursor stops moving, I thought its a bug( But this game is cool, I like it :3

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Someone else mentioned the same thing but I was unable to replicate it. The spacebar needs to be clicked to close the dialogue to allow movement, so maybe thats it? Anyways thank you so much for playing the game! I really appreciate it!

Submitted(+1)

I am having trouble to play the game. When I click the cursor stops moving and I can't do anything anymore :(
I tried clicking on different spots and pressing keys and it does snap out of it after a while but I get stuck right on the next thing I interact with. I tried it in a different browser too and it still didn't work. I am not sure if it is a me problem. I was looking forward playing this old school type point and click game.

Developer

Oh no! I just tried to replicate and it seems to be working fine. Is it when the dialogue box appears? You just need to click space to advance/end the dialogue so that you can continue.
