Thank you so much for the detailed feedback dontcare015! Glad that you're enjoying the game. Some of the features you mentioned are already on the dev plan (Scene creator, empty location pins on the map, class schedule changes for characters). As for your questions, here's some explanations:

3. The LLM is specifically instructed to create an "interest" class for each character that only that character would take, which does result in very obvious picks sometimes. It's in the game for people who want to take a class with that specific character

4. I do prefer vagueness in the game to avoid too much mechanical optimization. But I don't mind sharing outside of the game if people would like to know.

Mood-swings: Character's mood cycle descriptions are more extreme
Disagreeable/Good-natured: Higher/Lower chance to increase affinity with other NPCs
Materialist: Prefers gifts that cost more than $100 and the last 5 gifts instead of 3 affect disposition
Terminally Online: Posts more on Bunnyboard and the last 5 posts liked instead of 3 affect disposition
Promiscuous: Starts the game with the harem tag (doesn't receive negative disposition from cheating rumors) and receives "down to fuck" status on certain days of mood cycle

5. What menus is this a problem on? And would you mind providing the sprite for me to test?

 6. I actually would love to add this but since a lot of game logic is tied to the beginning of each time slot this is probably a complex add for quite a bit later.

7. Currently, all custom outfits must be set manually. But I've already made it so that you'll be able to write instructions to the LLM in the next update. Stay tuned!

9. Friendships are randomly generated for characters who are upperclassmen, while freshmen start as strangers to everyone. Over the course of the semester, as they meet on-screen and off-screen, their affinity towards each other randomly increases/decreases. Right now they can only be friends, but in the future I want to make it so they can date and breakup.

11. Characters can't change their schedule, except for freshmen who may sometimes pick up a part-time job later in the semester

Glad you're enjoying the game! These are some great suggestions and I will take these into account for furture updates. The ability to upload a ref image of the MC for image gen is quite possible

Hi Megumint! I added this last patch to test it out but I found it a little annoying and other players have complained about it too. Will remove for the next patch

Teachers are a complex add, but I'd definitely like to have them in the future. I don't plan to add more timeslots, so if you find the scheduling too crazy I'd recommend taking less classes. One thing you can also try is inviting your classmates somewhere after class to extend the timeslot

Thanks for the suggestions Potatoman! Will work on these for the future. For now, what I can tell you are stat tiers are 0/15/35/60/100. Also, we don't classify whether a project is a group project or not so the game doesn't actually know. You can work on a project with someone by declaring an action via freetext like "Work on chemistry project with Sara".

Thank you for the feedback supahslm! I'm aware of some of these issues and they're on the loooong dev plan. Like, there are many things that don't trigger data retrieval yet like mentioning classes, leading to poor memory for some characters. Working on this for a future update

Hi Bobgone! Now that we have the photo feature ingame, heavily looking into integrating it into bunnyboard and text messages. Instructions to the LLM for outfits will be added in the next update, and custom NSFW CG is high priority as well. A lorebook system is also probably a good idea and I've added it to the dev plan.

For the character notes, if it's coming on too strong it's probably best to word it more vaguely or explicitly instruct the LLM on when you want it to be used

You can duplicate a default character to edit them or edit them directly by opening your settings.json and adding:
"editPregens": true

Hi VU students! Please use this thread to offer your feedback on the game:

  • What do you like?
  • What's frustrating?
  • Are there any features you want to see in the future?
  • Who's best girl?

I'd love to hear your thoughts! Venus University is currently in Early Access, so your feedback is invaluable to help me make a better game for everyone.

You can also include bug reports here or create a separate post on the main board for them, up to you. When reporting a bug, please include:

  • Where and when it happened
  • Screenshots if relevant
  • What provider/model you are using
  • Log file if you're comfortable sharing. You can grab a log file from the "Report a bug" button on the pause menu in-game or from Feedback on the Main Menu

Known Bugs:

  • You may get a SmartScreen warning about "unrecognized app" when downloading the game or opening it on Windows. Getting the game signed is way too expensive just to fix this, so you'll just have to trust that I haven't put a bitcoin miner in.
  • If you are getting "Connection to Gemini API lost" on free-tier Gemini keys, try downgrading the model to 3.5 or 3.6 in the settings.
  • Deepseek, Z.AI, and other APIs that don't support json_schema (expecting json_object instead) might not work with Venus University. If you want to use those models, I recommend accessing their models through OpenRouter instead.

Thanks maestro! Is it okay if I link your discord on the game's main page?

Hi Megumint, tomorrow's update will add custom image endpoint compatability, which I believe won't work with ComfyUI, but I haven't tested. You can already use ComfyUI to generate room BGs and upload them manually to a character's folder, but tomorrow's update will also add the ability to manually upload inside of the UI. It's not true integration, but I hope that suffices for people who want to use their workflows to generate the BGs.

Hey maestro, this is awesome! I'm super interested in the design of the breakthrough system and of the sqlite memory retrieval, as I wanted to add features like this myself. Could you explain how it works?

This is awesome! Thanks for sharing

Your ideas are ones that I considered too. Waiting 30 seconds in a text conversation is sort of unacceptable for me in terms of gameplay smoothness, but the loading idea is great actually: you can still continue the convo/enter a scene while it's loading I'm assuming? That's actually how the photos feature is implemented right now, so all I need is to instruct the text prompt to add an extra field for an image prompt when it feels like it. Thanks for the idea!

Oh, the current photos feature uses frontier image model for generation, since local image models aren't good enough for prompt adherence.  So that means a larger concern for me is cost. I feel like allowing images to be generated during text/feed might cause prices to skyrocket very quickly. I suppose a setting helps with that but it feels like something that it would be expensive for me to even test lol

You're welcome to post the repo. I might take a look, but usually the details of the implementation are what is interesting to me, not the actual code, so what you've provided is already more than sufficient. Thanks for sharing

It's a player-generated feature, yeah. I am curious about your implementation, the main reason why I don't do image gens as part of gameplay is to avoid waiting on the generation. Were you able to solve this problem somehow?

Updates to the CG prompt for the LLM is coming in the next update, the current iteration has some problems like you saw. In general, I'm mostly adding QoL features and bugfixes first, but a feature in the next update will be a Photos tab that allows you to generate images of the characters you know

Hi naudh1r!
1) The log would be most helpful in diagnosing this. Please note that NSFW CG won't show if there's more than 1 girl currently on screen. If that's not the case, check the log to see whether the LLM output the "cg" action on the line in that scene or maybe "hide"d the girl's prematurely.
2) This is intended behavior. "Sleeping" just means any sexual act, and kiss automatically triggers when the sleeping together milestone is hit. I didn't want to add an extra conditional relationship modifier for sleeping together, but haven't kissed yet

Thank you for the extensive testing es4rtg! A patch is coming in the next update that will attempt to fix class code collisions on the app side so that local models have an easier time with generating a valid schedule. You'll also be able to set generation settings like temperature and top_p so stay tuned.

I also can't believe I didn't add gifting as an option for interruptions. Definitely going into the next update

Both are on the dev plan. Stay tuned!

Edits/rewinds are not allowed during the 1st part of class scenes because that's where the fact for exams is established. I don't want people editing this and messing with that

Hey trickypat, glad you're having fun! I think in the future I'll add an "Extra notes" section to character profiles that allow you to put whatever you want. I think that's an elegant solution to allow people to add extra memories, behaviors, or personality quirks at their leisure as the game goes on (similar to the player bio)

I do agree that the personalities of the girls can change quite rapidly sometimes. This is because we can only inject or not inject things into the prompt, so there's always a bit of step-wise movement there. I am working on ways to maybe smooth it down a little though.

I'll be adding a bunnygirl outfit for Ami and a maid outfit for florentine in the next update per your request :)

Sending the saves to my mail is best: venus.university.dev@gmail.com

The spring break nonsense seems very unintended and can probably be fixed. I am highly considering allowing characters to ignore their classes/work temporarily for scheduled events (by saying they just came from class/work instead)

Awesome awesome suggestions thank you so much!! Already added a few to the dev plan. A few responses and questions:

1. Moving this up in priority, this is a highly requested feature
2. A photos feature is coming in the next update! Stay tuned
3. I'm very interested in what's going on here, could you describe more or maybe send the save to me? This sounds symptomatic of a deeper issue with spring break.
4. This is a great idea, adding to the dev plan
5. Correct me if I'm wrong but there's no current cap on how many messages the LLM generates each turn, unless you're talking about something else
7. Can you describe this in a bit more detail? This shouldn't be able to happen. Characters ask to hangout on occasions at the start of a slot, and they don't reach out if they're already busy. When did the characters ask you? What was the dislike penalty you received?

Wow, an actually somewhat masculine guy, impressive! Thank you for sharing

Thank you so much for the detailed review newlife1999! If you had emailed this to me instead of posting I'd have happily added you to the credits as a playtester so feel free, to email me if that's something you'd like. It's my way of saying thank you to people.

Anyways, it's awesome that you were able to get males to work! Consider sharing some of your male characters in that worked well in the share thread so others can try them out. I personally would love a few to be able to test. If it's true that the dynamics were good, I would like to look into gender being an option during character select to make them fully compatible. The existing mechanisms could be easily modified to allow characters to develop crushes on each other and maybe even start dating, so I'd love to explore this for a future update!

Currently, I'm focusing on adding QoL and fixing bugs to get the game past an Early Access state, but clubs are at the top of my list for future content updates. Stay tuned!

(1 edit)

The anonymous posts are actually randomly selected from a large set with a lot handwritten by me lol, they're mostly not generated which is why they tend to be a little more unique. Glad you're enjoying the game!

Hey supahslm! Characters are given a 30 day mood cycle which, you guessed it, is based on the menstrual cycle. That's why male support is still experimental and may lead to funny situations like the one you saw. You can course correct the LLM's output by using the chat log to edit the text directly. I usually edit the message that I don't want and immediately send an action afterwards to mint the new edit and throw away everything after.

The game doesn't actually use context length, what it does is resummarize every turn in the conversation to avoid context bloat. Only the last 10 lines are exactly fed to the LLM, everything else is truncated and relies on the summary for the start of the scene. You can force the entire chat log into the next prompt by editing one of the first few lines in the scene via the chat log, though bear in mind that this still might not fix the problem as in a long scene putting every single line in could cause context bloat and spread the model's attention.

The ability to post on Bunnyboard is a feature I'd love to add! Figuring out how to do it atm. Character posts should already be saved by default, you can scroll to find them or check the character's profile page for their feed. The anonymous posts do rotate out though. Unless you are talking about responses in scenes. In that case, I'd recommend screenshotting for now

Mechanically, liked/disliked/loved/hated apply positive or negative modifiers to affinity, (+1,-1,+2,-2 respectively) so there's no difference in relationship change between "liking one thing and hating one thing" and "disliking one thing". The game's affinity system is also balanced around a max of -2/+2 change per scene. Look at the memory modifier as the cumulative total for the scene. You can still put something like "(liked) that you helped her carry books but disliked that you were rude." (cumulative change of +1)

Hey sav, you won't automatically get a penalty for turning down a girl's plan if you click "no" and text them a reason. Depending on their personality, they may still get a negative texting memory associated with it, but that's expected behavior.

You can also attempt to start a scene with both girls to appease them. For example, if you have a scheduled plan with Sarah to go to the Gala, and Mary asks you to hang out, you can use the free text prompt to say "Go to the Gala with Mary and Sarah". It might be a little immersion breaking though.

Thank you! The lag is probably from limitations of the web framework, I notice it already struggles with the static images. If I ever get around to animating the sprites I will look into solving this problem

Very interested in what the webp looks like, you can send to my email. How'd you generate it? Maybe this is something I can implement. You can check for example room bg prompts by opening the character folders and checking their character.json for roomPrompt. Here's one:

Create a hyper-detailed, photorealistic background. Do not depict any humans. Keep the shot at eye level. Do not depict any text. Make use of both foreground, midground, and background elements. Depict a university dorm room bathed in warm late-afternoon sunlight streaming through sheer white curtains. The room features a neatly made twin bed with a cream knit throw blanket and brown linen pillows. On the wooden desk sits an open leather-bound journal, a brass desk lamp, and neatly stacked travel cookbooks. A small kitchenette area in the midground showcases hanging copper pots and jars of colorful spices on floating wooden shelves. The color palette is composed of soothing warm beige, soft terracotta, and off-white tones, creating a cozy and inviting atmosphere.

Currently no OpenRouter image support, but it's something on the dev plan.

Oops, thought I removed the character limit on the memory box. Will be fixed in the upcoming patch

Sorry about this I don't know how to make Gemini stop doing this, it's incredibly annoying. It's already instructed explicitly not to show the CG if something sexual isn't happening on screen

Hard to know what's going on without screenshots or logs. I was able to enter the action "Go to club apogee" just fine

I have not had this experience. As long as I avoid explicit language, I rarely get refusals in consensual, vanilla scenes on Gemini Flash 3.8. Just replace all dirty words with vague substitutes like "heat, her, length," etc. and it should work fine

Characters labeled default have all editing off. You can make a copy and edit that one.

You can't create custom NSFW CGs, but you can modify the existing ones. Custom NSFW CGs is a pretty good idea, but instructing the LLM on when to use them could cause context bloat. Will test

Just tested and OpenRouter seems to be working fine. I'd check your url and API key

Thanks again for your support!!
