  • I think this game has a TON of potential! Make the "butterfly fighting" phase more developed and challenging, and polish the wand building and you could have something really awesome here! (And clean up the bugs, haha!) (Also, I wish I could give you, like, 6 or 7 stars out of 5 in creativity, you really nailed it on this!)

Nope - I've completed at least one game jam before.

How does your game fit the theme?
Your sinking airship must be charged up with star fragments to start up again. Also, you are technically rebuilding life on your airship ark after the apocalypse on the planet below.

This scratches all my itches. Item customization, upgrades etc.

I had a few clouds that became invincible? I saw the bounding rect around it when it goes to this state. Also, are you using a spell buffer, and you can only shoot spells up to the length of your buffer? After that, you have to wait until the last spells fizzle before you can shoot more? I wonder if this is the source of your spell bug, but I'm just arm chair debugging.

Developer

Thank you so much for playing and giving feedback!

Hmm, I don't have a max spell count, only a max spell lifetime. But maybe there's a weird interaction happening with those numbers I should look into. The clouds being invincible in some places is super annoying, but I ran out of time to fix it. It was my first time ever using tilemaps, and my first time ever doing destructible terrain, so I probably just did it completely incorrectly. Sorry!

I really liked the game!

When I started the game, I thought it would be a game about raising birds but then when I got out of the ship it was another vibe and I really like that, from calm to action :o

I already read that there is a bug with the shot mechanic, I only could add to it that I got it a lot more when I was under the ship, like the closer you are to it, less shoots you get, but you can still kill the enemies if you get too close to it or you speed the cleaning and go distant of the ship.

About the wand system, I really like it, I like when numbers go up and do more damage, I found myself only using the branches and rocks, the leaf and mushroom I didn’t test them because I already liked my build, so maybe having the ability to have 2 or more setups to build would be nice, just to use the excess you have at the end of the run, I had a lot of feathers and in general objects that couldn’t use haha.

Also curious about the multipliers because I added 2 rocks of 2.7x and that was worse than 1 of 2.7x and 1 of 2.3x, also I share my setup, I was instakilling  the butterflies and felt great!

The aviary is good and comfy. It gives a lot of items which I appreciate because the early game can be a little tough but then it gets easier. About that part, when you win or lose, the hp don’t reset, I had to do my winning run without getting hit because my hp was zero at the start hahaha.

This game felt good despite those little things, the song selection fits the game, visually it is pretty and relaxing and feels coherent.

I had a great time playing and I liked the title of the game after playing it. You really collect clouds and I like clouds :)

Fun game that that I want a bit more

Developer(+1)

Wow thank you so much for all the feedback, that's really useful info! I've never seen a wand get that strong before in all my testing, pretty crazy! The reason the stronger rock gave you less damage was (probably) because it only had a single adjacency buff instead of a double adjacency buff. I think it's too hard to notice (because it was meant to be a whole different object if I had time), but the rocks can either buff the item in front, item behind, or both adjacent items. The ones that buff both are OP, lol.

Thank you so so much for playing my game and leaving such a wonderful comment, you have no idea how much I appreciate it (even seeing a screenshot made me squeal <3)

Submitted(+1)

I see, then that explains why the rock didn’t buff both sides. I got lucky with it haha, both rocks in the screenshot I shared are double sided with great feathers

And happy you liked the comment, your game is great

If you keep developing this idea/game, let me know, at least to see how it progresses :)

Amazing art. The sounds and music were pretty nice too.

But for some reason it feels kinda weird to me that at first it was just picking things up and breeding birds, then all of the sudden it asks me to play a shooter haha. I just mean with this sort of aesthetics I wouldn't mind it to be wholly just a cozy management game or something similar.

Developer

Yeah lol, the shooting of enemies was supposed to be secondary to the "mining" of the clouds and exploring the sky for better items (including sky islands with stranded animals for your sanctuary). But since I didn't have time for that, it's just shooting enemies  a little chaotically. I did want a slow-paced/fast-paced juxtaposition, but I could have done a less clumsy job of combining them. :p

Thank you for playing, though, I really appreciate it!

Cute game! Really enjoyed the wand and the birds mechanic! The clouds was just a bit annoying cuz i was trying to fire in the butterflyes but they keep blocking the bullets! Anyway, pretty good and awesome art!

Submitted(+1)

Lovely art and nice gameplay ! I still don't quite understand the use of elements but enjoyed playing it ^^
I can't believe it was done in 10 days by one person !

Submitted(+1)

I really liked the art of the game and the soothing music ^_^

Customizing the wand with charms that buff themselves is such a cool idea, even though I always seemed to get more damage by just equipping the feathers with the most raw damage and ignoring the elements >_< Then again, I always get overwhelmed by the butterflies sooner or later so might be just me being bad lol

Despite that and the couple of bugs in the action phase I really enjoyed playing and would love to play a more polished version in the future, would love to create crazy wand combos and op birds!

Submitted(+1)

Loved the aesthetic, really great ideas!

Submitted(+1)

The art and music are really nice! Honestly, I could've spent the whole game just inside the airship room

The customizable wand + choosing whether or not to buff yourself or the ship was cool

I lost a lil early on due to the spell misfire bug, but I'd love to see the concept fleshed out w/ a lil more polish

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing, I appreciate it. Sorry about the bug, I wish I had time to fix it, but I'll fix it after the jam ends.

Submitted(+1)

I really loved the art style. I did have a bug with the spells occasionally not firing and sometimes they would get stuck inside a cloud and just bounce around without destroying anything.  I did also lose once because I spent too long out in the clouds. It was satisfying watching the spells bounce around the clouds. The music was really nice and I love the concept. I hope you can expand on this.

Developer

Thank you for playing, and I'm really sorry about the bug with the spells. I hope it didn't ruin the rest of the game for you, I'm glad to hear you think it might be worth expanding upon, because with the bugs, I cant really tell if it's worthwhile or not.

(+2)

I might be dumb having spent the first 5 minutes just clicking and dragging around the birds before I realized I could move hahaha...

Ohmigosh this was so cute! :O The art had a super dreamy aesthetic, the music was catchy and didn't get too repetitive after a while, and the gameplay loop was really engaging and versatile! I lot of my thougths feel like they'd just be echoing others but this was soooo cute! Good job!

A few small bits of feedback, the wand seems most effective at melee range which made projectile size feel kind of obsolete. But also a lack of contact damage made it easy to get in the face of enemies and knock em out quickly! Also enemy hit boxes seem deceptively big unless there was something damaging my ship that I just wasn't aware of.

Really good, really really good! This was a blast can totally see this being expanded upon into its own thing!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much for playing my game and giving kind feedback! I made the enemy hit boxes bigger at the last minute to compensate for the wand being kinda glitchy/ projectiles barely going far. I didn't compensate for how that makes them hit the ship more easily! I was really tired, it was just me being dumb. Sorry!

Submitted(+1)

the artwork is so beautiful and the best thing in my opinion is the sound design, it's really well put which makes the game super enjoyable to be played. I couldn't get passed the second level sometimes it felt like the bullets weren't shooting. Great game also again the art is so cute!

Developer

Thank you for playing! It's a real compliment that you thought it was beautiful since I thought yours was so beautiful <3 It's not your fault about getting past the second level, the projectiles are all messed up in the build in a way that doesn't happen in the engine, and I still don't know why, lol. Sorry!

Submitted(+1)

Love the art and the gameplay loop !

Submitted(+1)

Super cute art (love the catte friend) and together with the music it gives a strong theme to the game, being calm on the aviary and fast paced on the shooter section (that I was not expecting to be the way the game was gonna go, so that was a neat surprise). I really love the idea of a cat that takes care of an aviary (foes made friends type deal) and the variety of items with different effects to mix and match way the shot behaves.

I did found that sometimes collision can not clear after you destroy the clouds(?), maybe other unseen collision object leftover(?) and that  prioritizing fire-rate seems to work way better than doing per shot damage, so maybe a bit of a unbalanced bias towards one configuration of the wand over the others. Still, I think this idea has potential to grow and would love to see it expanded on.

Developer

Definitely needs to be balanced. I had nobody who could playtest it for me :( The collision issues are a pain, I'm sorry about that as well.

Thank you for playing, though, it really means a lot to me!

Submitted(+1)

Aesthetically, it's amazing, I love the soft magical vibe the whole game has, the Aviary is so beautifully made and it's very nice to be in. In addition, I'm in love with the mechanics and the gameplay loop, being able to customize my wand and strategically place the items was something I enjoyed (small "criticism", I wouldn't mind an overall spell power for each individual item (which, unless I'm wrong, is just all the elements added up? idk i was doing a lot of addition in my head lol), and the actual part of fighting off the butterflies was very fun.

My only major grip was that there were times where if it seemed like if I was close to a cloud or an enemy, the spell wouldn't spawn, or even if it felt like if I had enough space where one should spawn it didn't. Or a spell wouldn't break a cloud unless I shot from a different angle.

DESPITE THAT, I could very easily see myself playing this for hours on end, you hit a really sweet spot of visually/audibly appealing and really fun and engaging game play. If you ever develop this into something further, I would love to keep playing this :D

Submitted(+1)

I loved the aesthetic and wanted to know how strong the spells could become with all the modifiers, but al one point I was always overwhelmed with butterflies :(

Developer

Yeah, it gets pretty difficult, I wish I had made it easier. Lesson learned! Thank you very much for playing though!

the atmosphere, the arts and the music were really captivating

i would love to know what cape and totem skills do

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing!

The totems were going to autodefend the base depending on the trinkets you attached, so you could explore the sky more bravely (there was originally going to be floating islands from the crumbling planet, with items to find and even animals to save and bring to your aviary). The cape was going to be an item that made your body do damage based on attached trinkets, so you could purify the butterflies by bouncing around the clouds into them. Very chaotic but the test I did of it was pretty fun!

Submitted(+1)

I absolutely adore the art of the game.

And the atmosphere in the aviary is so relaxing - loved it.

Love the crafting/equipping of your wand and the combat was decent as well.

Great submission - love to see further progress on this game!

Developer

Aw thank you, I am glad you liked the aviary! It means a lot coming from a fellow birdy game like yourself <3

Submitted(+1)

The aviary is stunning! I love the art in this game! It has something so magical about it! (well its a game about magic, duh, but you really hit the mark).

I really like the peacefulness of the game, and im a sucker for any kind of magical game! I love it. I hope to see this one grow!

I feel like the thing causeing the magic not to work might be some invisible clouds maybe? Because in the places i couldnt shoot, the shit got damaged aswell. So i guess there is some invisible entity there? I think it was also pretty much always directly under the ship.

Also it seems that if you restart the game, that the ship has only like 1 hp (reloading the page works fine though)

What i realized too, is that sometimes you get close to 10 items in the first round and other times you get only about 3. To be fair the spell damage is always in a somewhat similar area, so I think thats fine. Its just something i realized.

Anyway, ive said enough. I really liked it. Job well done!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for playing and for all the feedback. <3

I didn't know about the ship HP bug! I definitely had that working correctly, so when I had to revert to the older version of my game at the last minute, I must have not  had that working properly in the earlier one. I'm sorry, but thank you for letting me know! I'll look into the invisible cloud theory too, that might be it! The items being randomized is intentional. When the game was easier, it would last longer and be more slow-paced, so building up items slowly was the idea (plus you could find even better items out in the sky). I made sure day one always drops more items than normal though, so you don't get totally screwed.  Anyway, I'm glad you liked it despite the flaws!

Submitted(+1)

Wow so much features and really cute art style!
At the beginning it was quite overwhelming and confusing due to the amount features there are in the game,  there's a whole inventory system, damage types, bird breeding, staff equipment and a space battle mode. I'd suggest perhaps simplifying certain aspects about the game or ease the player in and introduce mechanics slowly and especially with stuff like damage types and bird breeding, it's quite hard to introduce without proper explaination.
Other than that, you nailed the art, music and SFX, great job! ✨

Developer

I would have loved to slow down the tutorial and not throw so much at the player, but I ran out of time to work on game structure like that, unfortunately. Thank you for playing the game anyway, I appreciate that you stuck with it <3

Submitted(+1)

The art it stunning.
SFX are very pleasing and satisfying.
Gameplay loop is easy to understand.
And the combo possibilities! (I think I have yet to find the optimal charms synergies)

Very nice small project, perfect for a game jam.
Well made!
