I really like the strange horror vibe, and the art sets the mood really well. I did get a bit lost at one point though. After getting the torch and entering the parallel world to find grandma's pic, I couldn’t find anything to interact with and ended up feeling a little stuck. Maybe I just missed a clue but a small hint there might help. Overall though, cool concept! It has a lot of potential.
cool game! good job!
Thank you!
I love how there's a way to get to an ending without beating the dreaded unshaded 3d platforms (well, you could skip another painting but it was the only challenging one to me), but the final text is bullying you for not having cleared it ^^
Congrats on getting the secret seventh ending!
The game is gorgeous, especially the dark sun portait (for me). The only thing I believe could be a bit better is a little UI that shows the player the items and which number to press to use it. I got a bit lost in the beggining because I didn't know I had something in my inventory lol. Great game anyways :)
Thank you for the kind words!
Wow really cool game! Loved the atmosphere and idea. Really fun! I had a little trouble playing the game though. I didn't realize I had to use the scroll wheel to equip the paint brush/lighter at the beginning, so I was walking around trying to interact with everything. Eventually I figured this out. I think it also maybe bugged out when I used the mirror on a box? At first I didn't know what the pulsing was about. I thought it was a "warmer/colder" game where I had to walk around until it pulsed more rapidly. But when I figured out the minigame, the text came up and I wasn't able to get the text to go away. I tried it again though and this didn't seem to happen. I think this game is great though and the bugs are probably my only complaint! Lots of attention and work was put into this, and it shows. Great submission!
Thank you for the kind words! And yeah, we learned a lot about UI/UX design this jam. Too bad we ran out of time to implement those fixes!
Wow this is very well made. It looks beautiful and I enjoyed my time playing it! Good job! :)
Thank you for the kind words!
A wonderful little experience. I really enjoyed the way the narrative was paced, with bits and pieces diegetically fed to you through each painting. All the painting areas were really cool to look at and the atmosphere was great. Only major gripe was that some mechanics were a little confusing to grasp, took me a bit realise how the judgement mechanic worked! Great game overall though!
Thank you for the feedback and kind words!!
Cool game! I love the visuals here, and the audio created a mysterious atmosphere.
I wasn't really sure what to do after I lit the fire and beeped my radar mirror at the boxes, so I ended up getting stuck in the first room.
All I wanted was to collect grandma's portrait D:
Hey, thanks for trying out our game. Sorry you got stuck!! You’ll be able to continue when you scan the lock with the mirror!
Just to add to my teammate's comment: The "radar" needs you to click left mouse button when the pulse overlaps with the rings on it! This is how you access some of the content in the game.
I need help. The game and the concept really intrigued me. I want to play it, but I haven't been able to. First of all, I didn't understand the inventory system at all. I thought that any item I picked up would be automatically equipped. I only understood from reading the comments that I have to press keys like 1, 2, 3 to change items. I found the mirror and the first box opened. But now I don't understand the mechanics/mini-game here. Is this some kind of radar? Should I use it to search for something in the room? (web version)
Hi! It's not a radar, it's a timing minigame where you gotta left-click when the blue circle overlaps with a yellow circle. We apologize for not having made the minigame easier to understand.
Yes, I finally figured out the mechanics, maybe a few visual clues would be helpful. I played the game all the way through and really enjoyed it. The story and the environments were very interesting. I had fun playing it. I was also trying to create a "museum with living paintings." The way each painting transitions to a different room/atmosphere in your game is very nice.
I didn't encounter any bugs while playing. Congratulations!
Thank you!
IMPORTANT NOTE:
We've used the 48 hour grace period to fix bugs as well as licensing issues. We are now adding support for downloadable Windows, MacOS, and Linux versions. You'll find those handy if you are experiencing issues in the web export version!
Really nice game, but it was a bit hard to get into. It would have been nice to have a some kind of ui för the tools and such. I was a bit confused about what to do in the beginning and did the mirror bits without discovering the mirror, by mashing 2 and E.
I can't tell if I'm just dumb or unlucky that I'm the only one with this bug, but I took the paint brush in front of me when loading, and pressing E on the fireplace does nothing. Am I missing something? Playing on Firefox, maybe I'll try it on chrome to see if that changes anything
Alright, this is very strange and concerning. Let's hope this isn't a bug that close to the end of the 48 hour grace period.
Are you sure you had the brush equipped when pressing the E button? You should see its model in front of you when equipped.
Press the "1" button on your keyboard to equip it. Your mouse's scrollwheel could potentially also work.
If nothing still happens, try approaching again from a different angle and coming even closer to the fireplace - could be some sort of 3D mesh issue.
Oooh my bad, I did not realize you had to select the item, indeed scrolling is all I needed.
Sorry for the scare, it works fine now!
Oh there is a weird bug also, but it doesn't prevent from playing the game at all, it's just it takes control of my mouse automatically, and I have to press escape a bunch of times while dragging my mouse away if I want it back, otherwise it just immediately takes control back. Unless that was intentional to force people to play longer lol
Yeah yeah, that's an Itch.io thing from what I understand! Or maybe a web-export thing. Absolutely not intentional. We are currently preparing downloadable export versions for people annoyed by the mouse thing and the mouse jitters (we found no fix to that).
Pressing escape - in my experience I have found that HOLDING escape is a much better alternative to pressing ESC as Itch.io suggests!
I finished it twice now, it's really great! I love the concept, the visuals and the writing, it's all very well done.
A few notes:
- It's pretty hard to understand how to do stuff. I didn't know I had to select the items obviously, but also the minigame where you had to click and hold on the pentagrams I could not figure out at all for my first playthrough. On my second go I tried to burn them all instead, and got a different ending result, but I'm not sure if that was why? (I didn't get stuck on the mirror mini-game because I read a comment explaining that's what you had to do, but I probably would have been confused otherwise)
- The painting with the 3D platforming was fairly annoying due to the lack of definition on the angles of the structures, I died more than once not realizing something was higher than I thought
- The walking speed is fine at first, but it really feels sluggish after a while, especially when replaying. I wanted to try doing the mirror and brush alternating depending on what sounded like the ghost wanted from its dialogue, thinking maybe that would do something, but I kind of didn't want to do a third run because of that
- I think the pentagram mini-game instantiates and adds the objects you need to click on to the scene before moving it a random place on your screen, because I would see them pop for a frame before they'd get placed correctly
But other than that it's honestly a very good game, thank you so much for making it! And good luck with the jam
Oh yeah and also one final note, I love the thumbnail picture and the title, they're very cute, but they definitely did not make me think this was the game I was getting into lol
Thank you so, so much for the kind words and detailed feedback!! I mean it, this means a lot to us as a team <3
I think you did a fantastic job of implementing this theme in a unique fashion! The simple phrase “The worlds inside the paintings are your birthright” immediately piqued my interest. You made something special and I’d love to see what your team can do with even more time <3
We really wanted to nail the theme, so it’s awesome to hear this feedback! Thank you for playing!
Really liked the use of diegetic dialogue within the mirror. Nice work!
Thank you for playing!
Wow the visuals are really striking! Really wonderful job with the different worlds.
The game had a full arc and ending--really impressive stuff. Nice job!
Thank you for playing!
Very impressive to put all of this together in a week, well done!
For anyone else that gets stuck with the mirror in the starting area, it is a timing game where you have to click when the green circle lines up.
Nice work, it was cool to explore the different atmospheres, and well paced. It was quite a challenge to get the hang of the mirror, but once I figured that out it was quite fun!
Really cool world and story. There was a lot of mechanics, it took me a while to figure out everything.
Thank you for playing!
Nice game, a small tuto/explanation could be nice, also I add the jitter mouse bug so it was a bit hard to play (on chrome)
Cool game and interesting story. And the place with the tree looked awesome
Thank you for playing and checking out the strange places we made! :D
