This was by far my favorite game in the jam so far! The idea was really cool, and I loved the puzzles, super fun and well designed. Everything worked flawlessly, I didn’t face any bugs and was able to complete all the levels without issues. i think the final level was a lot easier compared to some of the earlier ones. Honestly, this game feels so perfect that I don’t even have feedback to give for improvement.. I just had an amazing time playing it from start to finish! and am actually really inspired by this game cuz am super bad at level design
Thanks so much! This is such a kind review; it means a lot to me. And I definitely agree about the last level; it was originally much harder (probably too hard), but I may have toned it down a bit too much. If I come back to this after the jam, I'll think about making that last one a bit tougher again.
Thanks again for playing and for taking the time to comment; I'm so glad you enjoyed the game! :)
Really cool idea and application! Not to mention very impressive based on how you did it. I think a lot of puzzle games can be very easy but this one for sure has a lot more thinking that needs to go into it which I appreciate.
Thanks for playing, and for the kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed it :)
What an unusual design with a great concept! I like how your deaths helps you to beat the level, though the death quotes makes me feel bad for them, gives uncanny vibes. The retro style is lovely, I especially liked the sound effects and how the player 'dances' along the music. Was that intentional?
The puzzles were clever, though not too hard. I think giving 60 moves to the player in the final level is a bit overkill.
Loved it!
Thanks for taking the time to play and to leave a comment! I'm so glad you noticed the players dancing to the beat; it's a very subtle thing but definitely intentional :)
I also agree about the last level; it was originally much harder, to the point where that many moves was pretty much necessary, but when I revised the level to make it more approachable I should have brought that number down as well. I'll make that change in a post-jam update :)
Thanks again for playing!
Really good game, I am just too dumb to figure out how to progress beyond the first few levels
Thanks for playing! I know that puzzle games like this aren't for everyone, but I appreciate you trying it out and taking the time to leave a comment. I hope you enjoyed the parts of it that you saw :)
It's absolutely amazing that you wrote this in assembly. Great job!
Thank you! :)
Great game! This Game Boy design brings back great memories. And yeah, it's insane that you designed this in just 72 hours. Great job! Level 6 is sooo hard, so I'm heading right back to keep trying!!
Thanks for taking the time to play it, and for the kind words! And yeah, the levels definitely do ramp up quite a bit in difficulty, but I believe in you!
Also there's always the level select to skip over things if you get stuck, or I'm happy to give hints :)
clever puzzle design here! i take it as butterfly effect of what we did in the past and it affects our future as well. it felt like an instant classic with well designed difficulty curves.
Thanks so much for the feedback; I'm glad you enjoyed the game!
And I'm glad that the difficulty curve felt reasonable to you; this was my first time doing anything puzzle-y like this so I was really nervous about tuning that difficulty curve and trying to design levels that teach the relevant mechanics.
Not my style of game, but this is very well made. I really love the graphics and the retro controls! The puzzles are nice and it is very well polished.
The intro text moves too fast, it should be a "press button to close text" type a thing
Thanks for taking a look, and for the feedback! There's a good chance I'll work on this a bit more after the jam, so I'll definitely consider giving more time for that text.
It's insane how you made this compatible with the game boy, and it's very well made! Unfortunately I don't have a game boy, so can't really test it on the real deal xD
The gameplay is very fun, and it gets chaotic fast when you die enough times. I really like the short messages after death.
Solid art. Very clean.
The SFX and BGM is really good too. Fits with the game.
Thanks for taking the time to play my game and share your thoughts. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! I'm also so glad you enjoyed the little "last words" for the characters; I put quite a bit of thought into them (and how they change based on cause of death), so I'm glad that that effort wasn't wasted. Thanks again for the feedback!
Yeah I did notice different words based on the cause of death. It really adds some personality to the game.
Wtf.. ROM for GameBoy as well? In three days? Dude. :D I smell a winner here. This is some insanely well done game and the puzzles are really interesting! I don't really have anything to add. Theme interpretation is great, gameplay kicks ass, art is unique and let's be honest, it's not easy to do art for GameBoy.. And you even had a character customization.. Like .. I'm speechless about now. :D Here, take my upvotes! You deserve them.
Thanks so much for the kind words! I have no hopes of winning or anything like that, but regardless of how the voting goes, I'm happy with how this came out, and I'm really glad you enjoyed it :)
The way my jaw dropped when I read through the game page... such a ridiculously cool game and what an amazing interpretation of the theme, wow!!
This was super fun and the puzzles were absolutely amazing! I loved everything about this. AND THE FACT THAT ITS A GAMEBOY GAME? HELLO? TAKE MY MONEY???
Genuinely everything about this is perfect, the only complaint I have is that I need more.
You're far too kind! I really appreciate you playing my game, and all of the kind words. I'm very glad you enjoyed it. There's a reasonable chance I'll keep working on it after the jam is over, both to fix some bugs and improve some performance issues, and also maybe to add some more content. Thanks again for the comment; it really made my day! :)
Whoa, nice take on the theme. I really enjoyed that. Super slick and well done. The Sokoban with your dead bodies is a wild spin!
The game did freeze up on me at level 13 while trying to dodge that cat. Idk what happened; the music stopped, and I couldn't press anything.
Thanks for giving it a go, and for the feedback!
Sorry to hear about the bug, but thanks for telling me about it! Complete softlock is a bug I didn't hit at all during my testing, but thanks for letting me know about it; I'll see if I can track it down!
really well made, but got stuck on level with crates and fire, and when i understood what to do, couldnt complete it since i cant restart the level
Thanks for playing! If you're interested to see more of the game, you can restart the level by pausing (Start button) and then hitting B, or by losing all your lives. I'll add a note about that to the game's page as well.
There's also the level select from the main menu if you want to skip a level entirely.
Nice art style!
Ohh that looks great , it's kind of that old retro style and i love it
A very polished game! I didn't know you could just make game-boy games like this, I might have to start looking into doing this myself :D
Very cool game concept, and the polish is mirror smooth!
Wow, really cool, very nostalgic graphics for me :) Also liked the baba is you esque puzzle moments, figuring out what is capable of what (no spoilers).
Appreciated as well how many of the sfx were in key with the music. Excellent!
Thanks so much for trying my game, and for the kind words. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. And yeah, I definitely wanted that discovery aspect to be a part of the puzzles, and I'm glad that you enjoyed that part of it :) Thanks again!
Looking at the other comment, it seems that adding the cat character was a very smart choice lol (I went for the default color though). What a fun game! The puzzles were well thought out and fun to play, I really liked the difficulty, it was pretty much perfect in that aspect. This being playable on an actual game boy is SO cool! I really don't have much to say as everything is just solid, music is a bop and never felt repetitive, controls were easy to use, visuals were very nice. I like the unique dialogue for each death too! A really charming, nice, puzzle game! It's really cool to see a game that has a retro vibe, because it is actually retro. Great work, this was very fun!
Really creative game. Great level design. I loved that it had a black cat options so I could play as my profile pic.
