Neat take on the theme! You made a pretty massive level for how short the time frame was. I also loved the perch mechanic, it was a neat way to get more time to look around. I wasn't sure how to beat the game since I made it to over 200k flaps/50k heartbeats and made it around the whole map without anything happening but it was good fun exploring for the sake of it. I do wish the mouse cursor was confined to the game window as it kept going outside the window and I would have to click back in to keep going but that was a minor thing. Overall solid entry to the jam so nice job!

Really cool, I like how when you're doing good you get chill music and you can just chill on a branch xD

Super cute and super fun! The theme was really clever here, and I love how huge the map surprisingly is with the town. The controls felt really smooth, too, and it's just a blast to zip around.

Very very fun game, and i love the low-poly artstyle, but why no loop-de-loops? :(

Developer(+1)

I know I would have wanted you to be able to do actual loops instead of pressing a "do a loop" button, but my teammate was having enough trouble getting the flight code working as-is, let alone handling going upside-down. I will consider tackling this in a version 2!

Pretty cool game, i what i loved the most was exploring the town. The town layout was very well done, and really felt like a medieval town. I also think that it was very creative and fun that I could sit many different places.

Reading your gamedev log was interesting! Sounds like you learned a lot of skills despite the setbacks

Game design wise, I think the environment is a good starting playground for flying. I think there needs to be other things to interact with to make it interesting. Perhaps other birds flying around that also take up your resources as competitors. Or natural predators. However this obviously all extra programming work that is tough to do in 4 days

Remember, ABL: Always Be Learning. Those are some good ideas to implement. Thank you!

The hummingbird thing is a genious idea for the theme

Never knew hummingbirds lived such stressful...:o

At first, I didn't understand how controls work, but then it clicked. Nice idea, thanks for sharing!

Now I know how birds attacking my widows feel

I like that you added heartbeats in addition to wing flaps! The city in the distance is also a nice touch. The only issue was the incredibly high default mouse sensitivity. Glad there were options to change that.

Developer

Oh that explains why the mouse sensitivity is so low in your game! Our mice are different lol. You might want to adjust your computer mouse settings, if they aren't set that way on purpose. Thanks for playing!

Submitted

I actually realized that after I posted lol! You had options for it so I was able to tweak it without changing my settings, so that's nice.

When you dropped "Heartbeats left" in the intro i got super scared that was so intense (in a good way)

Developer

I'm glad, that's exactly what I was going for. Thanks for playing!

Submitted(+1)

There is absolutely nothing chill about hummingbirds and I love that you captured that so perfectly. The intro had me HOOKED, and it was all sweet from there. It was great how insanely high AND insanely fast all the timers were.

Developer

That is so good to hear, thank you!

That was neat! Flying around a hummingbird is way more fun than I thought it would be. Exploring the town was cool, as was finding some of the plants you hid in there. Nice audio change when you get enough calories.

If you keep adding on, maybe an obstacle course (flying through rings or avoiding a hawk) could be interesting. You'd burn calories faster, for sure, but it'd make finding all those flowers worth it.

Very cool first 3D game! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Developer

Yes, little races you can find and complete would be amazing!

Submitted(+1)

Great job on your first 3D game. Would be nice to have something like a “dash” that makes you go faster but with an extra calorie deficit.

Developer (1 edit)

It's maybe not very clear, but the mouse buttons make you go faster and also consume more calories.
👉👈 Thank you for the kind words!

great idea and fitting animal too

Thank you!

I enjoyed flying around as a humming bird. i definitely see potential with this. I think the only thing missing is a task you need to complete. There didn't seem to be a direction, or anything to use the energy you were gathering for, aside from gathering more energy. But, i still enjoyed my time playing. Good Job!

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for the play, and im glad you enjoyed flying around!

And yeah, the objective of simply being well fed is a little light.   We were planning to add a set of feathers (down) to collect (count) around the map, but could not get it added in time.

Loved being a hummingbird! I like how big the map is, it made me feel like a tiny bird. I'm not sure I understand the challenge aspect, it felt like I had loads of heartbeats/calories etc. But I like how the numbers are thrown at you at the start to stress you out haha. Also the calories count says its 0 at the start when you actually have about 0.5 (maybe the decimal is cut). Great job for your first 3D game!

We round down in this household. Thank you for the kind words!
