Wow huge nerf to the special cards... they now have only one use and have a limit of 3 total. Made the game a lot harder!
Made the game better or worse do you think? Would love to get the idea of the number 1 player in our unofficial scoreboard :)
Overall it's a lot better! As a side effect, having to re-buy special cards gives more use to money, so that's nice. The slightly improved UI is easier to read as well. But maybe it's a little too difficult now... I think now that you've made special cards single-use, you can re-add the ability to increase their capacity; since they add so much to the gameplay it would be nice to be able to use more of them in total if not reuse the same ones every round. To slow the pacing maybe you can add more slots as unlocks after reaching certain stages (perhaps as another boss reward?).
The boss fight had no right to be this epic lol. Good job and congrats on the rating!
lol
You know I thought that that might happen but figured no one would play this far. Thank you so much for enjoying our game!
Really great job guys! One other thing is that money also gets really irrelevant relatively early... one suggestion might be to add permanent upgrades not in the form of cards. Max health upgrade, score multiplier, etc..
Yes I think these are some good ideas. We deliberated on perma updates but couldn't test them enough to add them confidently. In the next iteration though we are likely to have them.
Thats a good decision. Unlike my decision in my game to make the final level scrolling in the last half-day of the jam, I didn't test it enough and it turns out it lags exponentially every time you die
WE HAVE A WINNER!!! RIGHT HERE!
Super enjoyable, I wanted to play more and will play more outside of voting, hoping to follow this games life span on to steam! Unfortunately had to cut it short due to stream, but I really love this concept and any game that doesn't use a timer like mine in a cheap way wins my Ray Mag seal of approval, great job! Keep making games!
Love this game !!!
Very clever use of the theme, the game is punchy, boss addition add a good rythm and the game is incredibly well balance for a jam !
I think something that I miss is visuals for the divide cards. Because they can't be played all the time and having to if a 7-digit number is divisible by 7 or 6 is a bit difficult. I donno maybe something like wheel or something. Sometimes I get stuck just by having only draw, divide card, with the deck growing as the numbers, we need something to avoid this bad luck I think because this big numbers are insta-kill
I've tried different runs and I thing the deckbuilding aspect is a bit off since we don't know what to expect, we just need to take a bit of everything. But it's very cool to increase the size of the deck.
Great job :)
I would love to see this fully finished (even though I already think it's there!) I know schools would love to have this game as an opportunity for quick thinking in solving equations.
This is so frikin fun, the concept is so well thought out and so fun to play [would love to draw for this]
Thank you so much for your kind words! Maybe we could get something arranged for the art
MASTERPIECE. CINEMA. AMAZING. You have such a grounded understanding of what makes addicting modern indie games. Put it on Steam!
Joyful Lee?? the developer of the hit game Frootshoot?
WOW! You recognise me :) That's me!
Please make a steam version I will buy take my money
Thank you for playing and the great stream!
This is a really creative idea! Awesome strategy game.
Incredibly fun game and very addicting! I will probably play this one again even after the jam ^^ very fun math-based deck-builder ^^
Thank you so much!
Oh wow, I really really enjoyed the game. The idea is straightforward, but it works so well that I fell in love with the game! XD
I really like the idea of building your own deck, the roguelike setting works super well with the game.
I am just a little confused at the end, since the whole game was letting you take your time, and the final boss suddenly makes you think on a timer (I got punished for going below zero, but I feel like the boss didn't explain that mechanic)
I will definitely play it again to win for real!
Here's the vod of the game (at 1:18:00)
Thank you for all the feedback and playing it on stream!!
Really nice and different idea!
Wow... this game is great. Very addictive! The idea is great and the implementation is top notch.
I want to give some constructive criticism/feedback, but these are very nitpicky because the game is really so freakin great already. Trying to make it mostly objective, but some will come down to personal preference.
I feel like the art-style could be more cohesive. The hand drawn cards and the low res pixel numbers don't really fit together that well I think. I personally would prefer if the numbers were more in the style of the cards, but I'm sure the other way around would work well too.
The boss mechanics could be explained a bit better and aren't really that intuitive (at least to me). I also feel like this might be due to the sudden shift/pressure of having stuff depend on a timer while for the rest of the game you are free to take all the time you want.
I would really really encourage you to make it easier to distinguish cards with different operations by color coding them and/or giving them different borders or sth in that direction. As it stands it can be easy to mistake a subtract for a divide card, especially during timed boss events.
Card prices probably could use some adjustments based on their strength. I feel like some cards are just way stronger, but it isn't adequately represented in their price.
Just to say it again: This game absolutely rocks and I only wrote down all these "issues" after playing it a lot because it's genuinely so freaking good already! Great job!!!
WOW! Thank you so much for taking the time to write out such detailed feedback! All really fair points! I really like the color coding idea for the operations, and we can definitely tackle that alongside the art adjustments!
Wow, I think this has been the best arithmetic game I've played during the jam. I only have two critiques:
1. I can tell that a lot of time was put into the music for this game, and I love how there are different parts that play depending on whether you're in battle, fighting bosses, in the shop, etc. Unfortunately, the loop that plays for the regular battle theme is too short and it gets really repetitive by around stage 15 or so. Everything else music and soundwise is great, but that one loop started driving me crazy after a while. :(
2. The art is super polished, and I really like the animations...but why did you guys go with the hand drawn digits for the cards? Everything else feels so professional, but the cards still look like debug programmer art.
I only point these things out because otherwise it seems like this would be an almost perfect arithmetic game. I spent a lot longer than I would have expected playing it compared to a number of other jam entries, and it was a lot of fun too.
Thank you for the detailed feedback! Both fair points! We will definitely be looking into these in our post jam updates!
I would like to present a opposite point to the 2nd of@cachandlerdev . The hand written cards are precisely working because they are hand written. From a visual flow perspective, the cards having the same "font" (using the term loosely) would make a big cluster of similar objects that mess up eye search selection. So my advice is keeping them the way they are.
Sincerely,
A type designer.
Interesting! We will keep that in mind while we go over and potentially redesign some of the art for our steam demo! Thank you so much for the helpful advice!
This is a really fun game, has the potential to be very addictive. Also the boss music slaps.
Wow this is such a fun game! I saw this being played on stream the other day, but it truly is as fun as it looks. This is a steam worthy demo right here. Amazing work team :)
I love the game countdown, seeing it somehow adapted to a card game is awesome! Really enjoyed the bosses (except the "invulnerable" stage, everybody hates those), the music and the power ups. So satisfying to play, and I'm sure I didn't even get to start working on more complex strategies. Great game!
Thank you!! If you're talking about the indivisible state the Molten Number gets into after a heal, it's unfortunately a bug. Sorry for the inconvenience it caused. It will be fixed soon!
super creative idea!!!
Very good maths based entry, took my brain a while playing late at night. Well made, well done!
