Super impressive project with a lot of polish ! The game can be quite unforgiving but it's still a lot of fun.
Some music to complement the rythm game could've been nice but considering what's already there this is already incredible !

Submitted(+1)

Really great ! Well done, so much polish for a game done in 4 days !

I must say tho, that the game is very hard. At some point I just got stuck and could not progress because I could not have any more resources as they were counting down faster than I could gather them… I wish there was a bit of time in which we could take a breather and be able to build in peace…

Developer

Thank you so much, and thanks for playing! A quick tip: there’s no penalty for skipping the touch-ups, so you can focus solely on the resources you’re missing. Just remember, you’ll always need electricity

A really creative concept with an amazing stylized look (except the default font. Its always the default font)

Developer

Thanks for the feedback ^^ Yeah the font was what I already had installed with a bit of a sci fi theme x) Designing the UI at 2pm makes those kind of shortcuts ^^ But if I ever do another sci fi game, I'll try finding another one !

Submitted (1 edit) (+2)

Lol, game jam games are notorious for using default fonts, it's just a thing I saw in a meme. Game is great

Oh my god, this is incredible! It’s literally a Mars simulator built in 3 days, and it’s a rhythm game?! That’s insanely cool! How on earth did you pull this off? Seriously, amazing job!

Developer

Thanks so much :D Glad you liked it ! We have less merit than you, we were 4 ^^ But still we're really happy about how it turned out ! :)

I think it would be nice to give player some (even really short) time to just build, the endless need for rhytm management is tiring a bit. Otherwise really cool game

Submitted(+1)

Really cool aesthetic and an original idea. Rhythm games are becoming more common but I have never seen one combined with village/colony building. Trying to keep up with the notes while planning your next building really fries your brain. For some reason I really loved the wind effect. Maybe an easier start would be more beginner friendly and fyi sometimes the game crashes. Overall it's a really a nice game.

Developer

Thanks for playing & for the feedback ! :) Yep, an easier onboarding would clearly be our next goal if we had more time ^^ We struggled on it until the end. Noted for the crashes, we'll check them if we consider to go further with it ! :)

Submitted(+1)

This was really really cool! You could really release this into a full fledged game, (with mini levels kinda way, because bopping to the beats of an entire civilization would be too difficult). I however suck a bit at multitasking, but I'm pretty sure you could improve on this basic idea. Best of luck!!  ( •̀ ω •́ )✧

Developer

Aw thank you ! :) That's really nice !

Submitted(+1)

Holy moly this looks like a full on game, making this within the game jam time limit is crazy to me! I'd like to see this polished and turned into a full on game at some point. Very cool :D

Developer

Wow thank you for the compliment ! Glad you enjoyed it ! :D

Oh so cool! Very unique cool concept and execution. You did a great job ! :)

Developer

Thanks ! :)

Cool game, I'd reiterate what the previous comments put but I got a feeling those pain points were already seen. That said this is an insane amount of work for 4 days, good shit

Developer

Thanks for the comment ! Glad you liked it ! :)

I absolutely loved the Mars setting and this unusual genre combination felt really refreshing and unique. The art style and sounds caught me from the beginning. I had to give it a few tries to understand it, but once I managed to balance the rhythm timing and building at the same time, I was able to survive at least one storm. From there, I was completely hooked on the idea and wanted to see more of it! :D

Other comments already mentioned some things that could be improved, so I want to focus more on ideas of how I could imagine solving some of these problems.

The city building reminded me a bit of the board game Underwater Cities, where you build engines that generate resources, similar to your game, and have production phases after certain actions and rounds.

Maybe you could split resource collection and building into separate phases or add a pause. During the building phase you could take your time to plan your base layout, think about missing resources and plan the rhythm of resource production after adding new buildings. During the collection phase you could decide which resources to prioritize instead of having to collect everything at once, maybe with an extra challenge like hitting a sequence to gather them. This phase could also scale with more workers, with the idea that each worker visits facilities once a day to gather resources.

Events like storms could be added to the rhythm phase, where you actively defend against hazards by hitting the right rhythms. This could make collecting more challenging because you want to minimize damage to your buildings. An upgrade system could also add another layer, for example improving buildings or rewarding better rhythm sequences.

I was way too invested in this one, and I'd really love to see it develop into a finished game! I enjoyed it a lot. Great work everyone! :D

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying the game ! Glad you liked it :D
I see what you mean about Underwater cities, they also match our look, with domes and tunnels connecting everything ^^

About decoupling the rhythm and building phase, we were supposed to do it originally but had to scrap it due to the time we had left x) But we're happy to know that our first instinct was the good one :)
All other ideas are really nice, if we ever think of pushing the idea further, those would definitely be points to explore ^^

Love the look and nice concept. I didn't understand how to get more workers though so I gave up at some point.

Developer (1 edit)

Thanks for giving it a try!
For the workers, you have to add houses (those are the gray buildings), which need to be placed near a wind turbine.

Ah I get it now. Great idea, I think with a few adjustments this could be a banger game for guitar hero inclined folks. I found the best sounding key (space) not that often used, so that was a bummer. Also, some variation would help, although at the end I got kinda good at the rythm I had built up (missing a ton of keys though because the city got big). Good stuff!

Developer(+1)

“space” Is that the key that sounds best? Funny, Telkan added the sound 15 minutes before the end because we realized there wasn't one. He picked a sound in a rush. Cool if that's the one that sounds best

What an ambitious concept and gorgeous visuals! I was also not very good at multitasking so I had troubles understanding what was expected of me. It would have helped if the text was closer to the rhythm part or maybe the game paused when something important was written. Regardless, very impressive work!

Submitted

Very very unique. Unfortunately I suck at multitasking so wasn't able to get very far. I'm slightly disappointed the music wasn't more upbeat/faster, though I suppose if it were it'd be impossible to do both.

Developer

Thanks for the feedback ! :) The music not being more upbeat was a repeated topic, but unfortunately we couldn't find any satisfying solution in the time we had, I think we would approach the design a tad differently from the start for it to be more satisfying if we had to do it again ^^

I really wanted to enjoy this game - as others have said the idea is super unique, and I believe it could be a very addicting game when fully fleshed out! This was a very ambitious project that just doesn't feel super good to play as it is unfortunately. I don't want to beat a dead horse, as your team has gotten a lot of good feedback that I agree with, so I will leave it at that. The art and visual presentation are so good, I really do feel like I am a settler on Mars trying to build my colony! One thing I haven't seen mentioned - I was a bit confused at first with the rhythm key mapping - E, R, and space bar made sense, but I wasn't sure about the "a" and the curvy looking "z". I did eventually figured out that it was QWER, but not sure if I'm missing something about the icons. Anyways, very ambitious game that I would love to see succeed! Well done with the time you had!

Developer(+1)

Thank you for your feedback ! Yes, as we are a french team, we work with "azerty" keyboards and had to remind ourselves to change the keyboard icons at the last minute. But in the heat of the moment... we forgot x)

Submitted(+1)

Wow, Offworld Comapny is one of my favorite and your game certainly brings me that connection!. I love your visual design and SFX, very immersive. I wish there could be a pause button or a tutorial session/page, that way I don't have to reloat the page several times to learn the basics. The learning curve and difficulty ramp at begining is a bit harsh but I understand this all due to the time constraints! Overall great work especially kudos to the minimumlist yet immersive visual!

Developer

Thanks :) Indeed a pause button would've made a lot of sense. The onboarding was a tough topic too, we just didn't manage to cram everything until the end of the jam ^^ But glad you managed to get past it and enjoy the game ! :)

Submitted(+1)

I really love the concept here! It's super unique and I could see it becoming a genre in and of itself. I think the game could do with a tutorial and/or for the loss+restart process to be a bit quicker so you can jump right back in after a failure. I think the different nodes being different beats is just really cool and while I do like how difficult it is, I think it could just be a bit less punishing on reading things in the moment (maybe a pause button that still allows for tool tips and whatnot)

Awesome game! Thanks for the experience

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feecback ! We totally agree on your observations, there was a lot of the complexities of how the player would interact with the game as a whole that unveiled itself while we developed it and we did our best to fix most of it, but indeed in the end, the onboarding is tough and events sometimes can get unforgiving/unclear due to not enough ways for the players to interpret them ^^

Submitted

You did a stellar job!

Submitted(+1)

Super creative to combine base building with a rhythm game. I do wish you could pause the game to read some of the descriptions and whatnot, especially as resources were being passively consumed while I was trying to read what to do at the beginning of the game. At least a temporary hold on cycles and resource consumption until they build their first building would be nice, at least for when you first start off

Developer(+1)

Thanks for the feedback ! :) I totally agree, having ways to temporary hold the cycles could be a great addition to give more time to think/breath

Submitted(+1)

I made a rhythm game too so of course I had to play yours. Wow, impressed you managed to combine rhythm mechanic with base building! It was very unique and original and went along the lines of the theme. The graphics were stunning, the atmospheric bgm nice (though a tune with a beat that went along with the rhythm pattern would have been perfect!) Nice job and great entry!

Developer

Thank you ! indeed we are missing a background tune that could help guide the player as to when to press and to help them getting in the flow ^^

Submitted(+1)

Really impressive concept. Blending rhythm gameplay with city-building is something I haven't seen before, and the presentation is fantastic—the art and UI are polished and easy to read. I did struggle with the opening difficulty, but even then it was clear how much creativity and care went into the project. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much ! :)
