Very atmospheric game! The graphics are pleasing to look at and informs the player of any vital information well. The music is very relaxing and fits the atmosphere. The sound effects make the game feel responsive while fitting the game's atmosphere. Wish the darkness was toned down a bit and that the player could die on command instead of waiting out the flame.
Very well done!
so i'll be honest, this is a pretty unique and cool idea for the game jam, a lot of ideas and mechanics implemented in them in such a short time.
the idea of being able to eat your previous deaths for more time is pretty neat, though i do wish there was a way to snuff out the light on purpose to plan for a future attempt instead of waiting it out.
also the fog of war or the darkness did feel a bit frustrating trying to navigate it especially when low on light, even with the lanterns lit up for landmarks, and the animation of the candle feeling awkward with movement.
but that's just me being blunt on how i felt playing it, overall though the idea and theme all fit extremely well in what it was going for. the light growing dimmer made sense due to an actual candle, same with the movement, needing to jump around, grabbing more candle wax increases the time, lighting torches up and wind killing you instantly or using fire to rise.
even if the gameplay felt a bit off, everything else about it all made sense in the situation of the candle. nothing left me like, 'oh that didn't make sense.' so in terms of creativity, very well executed especially when made in a very short time.
Thank you so much for the feedback!!!
For the "self-destruct" mechanic, we did think about it but we thought players would just spam it in the spawn to then have a crazy amount of light and timer, since the timer doesn't have a limit. This is on purpose, we wanted this death mechanism to be more of a less punishable death and a way to get further away from spawn, but at the end you kinda need to to do some parts of the level so it's deffinitly something we can improve design-wise.
For the candle animation, i agree it feels a bit off, but animating a static candle to run, jump wall-jump, sprint-jump is pretty hard in 4days, our poor artist lost a lot of sleep this jam xd. Of course i know you were not complaining about the art, but the weird animation, i agree!!
For all the creative mechanics, you can thank our sfx and music composer, who basically thought of every one of them ♥
Very cool game. I think the gravity might be a little too strong though. Also, I got softlocked by a balloon not moving right before the end, so I wasn't able to finish the game.
Yeah unfortunately when changing 2 or 3 things at the last minute some balloon broke :c
And for some reason it only happens for some people, not everyone, i think it's a floating point error on some machines because the collider size is 0.002 short from colliding with the wall itself, anyways thanks for the feedback!!
The whole concept of being able to use your previous deaths as milestones to refuel before continuing is really smart ! I reeally like the overall atmosphere and feeling of progression :)
Very fun concept and great art!
I do agree on the difficulty part with no explanation as to where you're supposed to go, but this is a really solid entry with great design!
Maybe add an instant death button, if you want to leave a body to eat later or if you failed too many jumps and know you won't be able to continue anyway
Very pretty to look at, cute candle waddle, nice sound too.
Thank you so much ✨
This game has a really cool vibe. The candle is excellently animated and it feels properly cartoonish while still having a rustic vibe. The gameplay is definitely a bit too difficult (mainly with trying to figure out what to do next), but once I got past a few tough bits it was pretty entertaining. I'm just really sad that I got blocked by a glitch at the end.
Lit idea, nice ties to the theme of the game jam. The platforming can feel a little tricky at times - like the wall jumps, but the game description helped once I read it. Overall, pretty solid
thank you for the kind words and fire pun by the way, intended or not XD
Once I realized I could cannibalize my own corpses the game changed! Very creative, I'm not a fan of platformers and it was difficult to get far, but I still enjoyed the time I played.
Beautiful art, music, especially the candle movement animation was very cute. I'm really amazed that you did all of this in such a short time with all assets made from scratch. Great game!
Thank you so much, it means a lot coming from such an amazing artist : D
Yep I'm amazed too, most stressful game jam I've done so far, and I'm sure Katsu (artist) would say the same xd
honestly not the type of games i like to play but this one was somewhat fun ! i like the map being semi-open as in you spawn in the middle of it and then can choose weather to go right or left. the mechanics are cool (we will NOT talk about the walljump. (i suck at it)), sound design if great, art is great, overall for a 4d game jam it's a very good game !
Thank you very much, yea the game is so hard, the level designer is littterly sadistic XD but dont tell him that. Regardless we are all extremely proud ^O^
I've seen a few takes on redoing the same level in limited time, but I think reusing your old bodies as fuel for your next run is a really cool twist! It makes dying in certain steps a strategic choice! However, I found doing the same route over and over again would become a little repetitive. Had a good time playing it though!
Thank you for the kind words. I agree it is very frustrating at times but we are proud of it! :D
I agree! A very cohesive game. It makes you feel a certain way and you can tell it was intentional! Good job!
Thank you so much we were really trying to create a certain way, so im so glad it came through! :)
wow, the music, art, and overall exploration vibe all come together really well in this - great game!
Thankiesss
Thanks (≧▽≦)
