Really fun game! I like how the limitation of only one bullet being able to be active at a time encourages getting close to the enemies and punishes missing. I also loved the different songs and how they changed the atmosphere of the location you were in! Maybe it could have been interesting if there were more differences depending on which map you were in, like maybe the enemy with the same color is buffed or gives double the quota? Great game!
Simple fun!
Visually it looks nice, I enjoyed the shapes and the neon-like lighting, it wasn't as exaggerated. I would love to see some death animation or effect for when I kill the shapes.
Audiowise, the song is a tad repetitive and there doesn't seem to be sound effects for the shooting at all, or maybe it is too low.
I didn't see much difference it the fire rate for the minigun, it took a lot of power-ups to notice an increase in fire rate. Regarding damage, I'm not sure if I saw much difference either, considering I almost one shot every single shape, no matter the size. Every power up I'd pick the damage+fire rate or the radius for the bomb, as it seemed to kill anything in its path.
Congrats! Managed to get to round 18.
Very simple and addictive game, the depth charge and minigun feel super duper nice to use. I was pleasantly surprised by this! Also good to see another top down shooter!
It's a very interesting game, maybe it's a bug, but the red projectile sometimes flies through enemies.
Thanks! It is meant to travel through enemies and walls to give you full control of the placement. Could definitely use an indicator though so we will keep that in mind!
Despite how simple it looks, its actually super fun to play. I made it till wave 15 with a score of 715. Eventually there just wasn’t any place to move, so I think the progression does break at some point. I do wish the game was a bit more polished though; with some response for hitting enemies or receiving damage like a screen shake. I did notice the soundtrack was dynamic so that’s super cool. Great job overall, I enjoyed it despite the shortcomings.
looks good
Pretty unique style, I really dig it! I also like how the mini-gun encourages you to get closer to enemies to maximize your damage. Wish there was more variety in the upgrades though
I absolutely love the art style and music. I think if there were a bit more guidance at the beginning, it might have helped me get into the game faster, but overall, I really enjoyed it. Congratulations on finishing the game!
Just played through the game, and it's been fun... already went in one round and got to the 14th round!
I feel like the game lends into two builds, since the firerate is inversely proportional to the distance (as the dist. proportional to the time the bullet despawns), you are really encouraged to get close and just go ham on the fire rate. The only reason it doesn't work is consistency as a stray bullet can leave you w/o one, and the enemies get too fast that it becomes very dangerous. The other build, I feel like if the projectile speed upgrade increases movement speed and increased damage the more distance the bullet travels, there could've been a cool sniper build that contrasts with the close-range upgrade. From there it's a balance, and with great map design, the gameplay loop is elevated further.
Okay, okay, suggestions (and rambling) aside. Overall, I enjoyed it. The music changing dynamically with the world, and the enemies start to scale up, the little mini breaks with the upgrade screen, and generally I live with the aesthetic, makes this enjoyable!
P.S. Also, the shapes and different critters was so cool, although I think my dps build melted down the big ones, the small ones were giving me some nasty trouble
Thank you for submitting into the game jam!
Thinking about other specific builds would be a great way to progress this further, I will take that in mind! I think we will continue to update this a little bit, we are having a lot of fun playing it ourselves! Thanks for the very constructive feedback!
Love the neon style and how the music builds stage by stage. I agree with the previous comments that more enemy variety would be a nice touch.
Congrats on your game! ^^
Nice work! I especially enjoyed the song variations.
And I think this is mostly personal preference, but having to wait for a bullet to de-spawn felt a bit weird. It gave me the impression that fire rate was "random", even though it is not.
But overall great!
Nice work! I like the neon style, I liked how the music changed a little with each level, the upgrades were a nice touch, and the depth charger felt pretty good to take out large crowds.
This is just my own personal preference so it’s not really a criticism, but I think I would have liked a bit more enemy variety to keep the player from just kiting. Not necessarily adding attacks, but maybe something like an enemy with high speed but poor acceleration could be an option so that the player has something to actively dodge.
Overall, good job on your entry 😁
Every year there is one thing that barely made scope and this year was enemy variation haha. Thanks for playing!
Nice game and nice art! But it could be a bit harder.
Interesting art and music! changing the music while lveling up is a nice touch!
Maybe I would have liked a little more importance in the countdown as a mechanic but nice game!
The idea of every enemy having their own planet is cool, but I think they lack some individuality for me to remember. I think I would be more likely remember their names if when I die I get to know the name of the species that got me. + from the gameplay point it would be nice to have some difference between them, be it move speed, or different behavior. Maybe if you push the idea a bit further it would be a very solid game. Good job!
Seems crazy thinking about it now that we didnt add individuality. Thanks for the suggestion!
Liked the vibes , nice and arcady .
The concept of only having one bullet is super interesting. It makes bullet speed so much more important. I had a lot of fun playing it! I only wish there were more upgrades.
My browser was struggling to play the game at 11 fps. have you tried optimizing it?
