Very cool balatro-like! I wish there was a little more to spend money on once youve settled on your upgrades.
You can always sell upgrades to buy new upgrades in the shop. There’s also a legendary upgrade that allows you to turn cash into points, but I think I made the legendary rate too low.
This is really fun! I like the art and music and the gameplay is pretty intuitive. Get those upgrade icons in there and it'll basically be done.
Very good artwork, i really liked the animations. nice ost, quite fun, nothing else to say, really liked it 👍
The track alone was soothing enough to keep me in for a while. Love the number go up take with a very simple gameplay. I think you don't need such a complicated "how to play", as it could be easier scripting a little tutorial handholding the player for just 1 hand.
Saving this one to come back every now and then to play for a while.
I already had a setup for the upgrade description tooltips, so it was easiest and quickest for me to just reuse that for the How to play popup. But I’ll definitely integrate a more full-fledged tutorial in a post-jam version.
Gonna watch out for that then! Already following to get notified.
I opened it expecting Balatro - but lets be real - this is a really unique take. And maybe I'm just dumb, but balancing the SEL queue vs the other one - HARD as hell! Loved the challenge
They’re not exactly supposed to be balanced. You play the selection and then maybe a few more selections, and finally you play the queue to get all their points. Unless you meant the tradeoffs in playing a higher scoring selection for a lower scoring queue or vice versa.
exactly!
Love the balatro-like gameplay and polished visuals!
Love the polishing and vibes! The mechanics are a bit confusing imo but still a cool game, congrats!
It tooks me sometimes, i think with a tutorial this game would be a bomb!!! Well done!
to be honest, it took me a while to understand how the game works (admittedly, i decided not to read the description, so that was probably why). for a while, i was just placing cards down, but once i started to understand how the game works, and i hit a nearly full sequence that netted me over 320 points on round 5, i definitely got the appeal. i can definitely see the balatro inspo, and i think you did a really cool job with it. the music is chill and i didn't ever get sick of it, and the art all feels very cohesive and pleasing to look at. the one thing that bothered me is that the text does not read well with such a low resolution, so i would have to suggest increasing it a little. cool game!
Honestly I am really not a fan of the overpixelization to the point that it becomes hard to read, especially when you have a game that needs to be understood a bit. Your game asks a form of patience from the user by requiring the understanding of rules and mechanics, and your main method of transfer is text. I would highly discourage using less-readable fonts.
That being said, It is fun. I'm having fun. I feel like picking the right upgrade allows me to cheat the system and I'm looking for synergies, which is what these games are all about. Well done, highly enjoyable.
Coolest game ever!
I had fun playing it but I found it hard not think of balatro in my head while playing. It makes it a bit hard for me to rate it on its own merits because I can only unfairly compare it to a really polished and highly rated game that took a lot longer to develop. I'm still really impressed you managed to deliver such a polished and complex game in a very short time.
cool game you have made here!
Looks interesting! I’ve also made something Balatro inspired, but didn’t capture the visuals as well as you.
Leaving a comment so I can check it out and rate after work.
Fun game, it's a good combination of the theme and Balatro-style gameplay. The pacing also feels great, and I've already found some OP powerup combinations. Only feedback I have is that having the option to only partially discard a hand would be nice.
The problem I had with trying to implement partial discards was that the selection system only allows you to select cards that could form a proper sequence to add to the end of the queue, so I’d have to work some things out to allow you to select arbitrary cards but not play them if they’re not playable, which may get confusing for the player.
Huh, didn’t even realise that design challenge while I was playing, but your are right, that’s a tricky thing to solve. Thinking more about it, not playing the queue directly from the hand kinda solves it. Interesting challenge nonetheless, congrats again on the game!
Very nice card game. I love the visuals. The font is a bit difficult to read sometimes
An addicting game and I love it! I wish I can discard the cards that I selected, also for the description of the powerup, try to make it static since I feel uncomfortable reading the description when it is swaying around. Liked the retro-style of the game! The music fits the vibe of the game. Overall, a solid game!
Yeah the swaying is actually a bug that became a feature since some playtesters and I liked it. But I can see why that could be a problem combined with the hard-to-read text.
An Uno Balatro with a countdown theme, I just played it for a bit right now, but man oh man, this is going into my bookmarks because I love roguelikes, and this already has that synergy
also AEZIO is such a fun and creative title, it was really cool seeing the namesake perk in the shop and realizing what it meant lmao
Unironically so unbelievably addictive, the art looks great and the audio is amazing, plus the gameplay is incredibly fun, only nitpick is that the play hand audio sometimes layers itself and gets quite loud, besides that amazing entry!I saw balatro-style game, i immediately hooked to it. The gameplay is kind of confusing at first, but in the end i get the hang of it. One feedback i can give is the font used in the tutorial, because it's hard to read. Overall, i enjoyed playing it!
Never played balatro, but I can tell this is very balatro inspired. It's definitely lacking some game balancing, but all in all I had a fun time playing a couple rounds. With a bit of polish and balancing it would be a lot better, but as is it's a pretty cool game. I like it.
