I cannot describe the joy I felt digging and the pain I felt being one block away from an immense treasure only to be to tired. Also, I did not expect that ending...

This is SO FUN. Really great job!

Thank you for playing :) <3

Everything about this game is just right: art, balance, sound. A well-polished and well-rounded game

Developer

Thank you so much! :) <3 I loved your game too. Can't wait to play more of it.

Extremely polished game, with super efficient design, the kind of thing I love to see in a jam. The main loop is effective and addicting too, I've played similar games before, but I feel like this does enough to stand out with the debt mechanic and cool abilities. I particularly like that you can't see the terrain unless you're near, makes it feel a bit more claustrophobic. Also, there's something quite ironic about blowing up your front garden with dynamite to get the funds to keep your property. Also, dog!

Developer

Very kind of you to say! Thank you very much. :) We went back and forth on how much terrain to reveal but definitely wanted the mysterious and claustrophobic feeling of hiding most of the map. Glad it worked out!

And yes, the irony of saving your property by blowing it up was not lost on us hehe :D

Love the rollercoaster of emotions this game is. First you frantically dig every coin you find thining you’re doing good, then you realize this is actually more of a puzzle game where every move needs to be calculated, then you reach the bottom and … well i wont spoil it. Had a really fun time and the beautiful pixel art was ideniably part of the experience ! Great work

Developer

Yesss that's exactly what I want to hear! haha. So glad you enjoyed. :) Thanks for playing!

Fire game. I think I have played a similar game before but that one had health damage from TNT, and more scarce resources. I was really conservative the first round and messed up. But the second round was super satisfying when I realized I could keep TNTing my way down. Also one of the most polished games I have played in the jam so far.

Developer

Thanks very much for playing <3 The TNT is OP, but fun haha.

I love the core mechanics of the game. It has an amount of polish that would make Team Cherry proud. 😊

Developer

Stoppp I'm gonna cry lol, we could only dream of their heights! Masters of their craft.

Thank you for playing <3

Every great digging game has something unexpected at the bottom. I enjoyed this one!

Developer

That's what level design at 4am and at least 600mg caffeine over the course of the last 16 hours will get you hehe. :)

Thank you for playing! :D

Hello! Thanks for the comment and rating of our game. I really liked your game — the combination of mechanics is very impressive. It's truly an outstanding project, one of the best I've seen here in the past day. I hope to see your project in the future !!!!

Developer

ty so much for playing <3

Digging through your backyard to pay off your mortgage is such a clever narrative hook, and the loop of upgrading tools while managing your daily dig limit is super addictive. It's really well thought out and executed fantastically for a first collaboration. Awesome job!

Developer(+1)

Glad you enjoyed! Yeah the loop really turned out better than we could have hoped when we sat down to design it. :) Thanks very much for the kind words! <3

This felt very satisfying to play - I love how you have literally all the money in the world at the bottom of the level that the camera doesn't even catch up LMAO. The sound effects were what got me - I can feel it itching my brain every time I dug into a material. Honestly, the game felt super easy once I got the TNT - I didn't know that it was unlimited use. Maybe you can have a leaderboard for measuring how much money people got by the end of the game? Maybe there could also be enemies like Silverfish where they emerge once you break a block? However you want to work on your next iteration, I'm sure it would be very fun to play! Good luck the rest of your jam!

Developer

Tooootally! The sound effects really polished it off, we were so stoked when we replaced the placeholder sounds and realized how much it really pulled everything together. :)

The TNT is absolutely OP, so is the ladder. We would have loved to have had more time to balance it, but both of those mechanics were only finished on the last night so we just couldn't do much more.

Enemies and leaderboard are interesting ideas! Hmm...

Thank you for playing our game <3

No home, no place to go. Tried my best, had no time to rest.

Nothing to complain. Thanks for the journey!

Developer(+1)

Sometimes home is the tunnel we dug out along the way. Thanks for playing :)

The game is just so charming, especially with that artwork. Also, the HUD on the two sides remind me of Terminal UIs (TUIs) which is one of my favorite aesthetics.

Developer

Thank you for the kind words!

I tried so hard, i got so far, in the end , 1 days remaining with $16050 debt. We were never meant to win  🥀
This debt is so real. Id be homeless  instead. Lovely gameplay, 10/10 art, concept was so real. Loved it overall

Developer

Thanks for playing! If you ever get a your hands on some TNT, I promise you can keep your house :-)

Great game! It looks like a proper small game and not like a gamejam entry.  Also love the dog.

My only complaint is that the controls feel a bit unresponsive. The character movement doesn't catch up if I press the buttons fast enough.  Otherwise it's a fun complete experience.

Developer

Yeahhh I'm with you, the movement feels a little clunky and could definitely use some tightening up. So hard to prioritize things in a game jam and have to just say "well it's good enough" haha.

Thanks for playing, and thanks for the kind words! :)

Super cool! As a developer of a game with bombs and digging for loot I appreciate the vibes. Reminds me a lot of Motherlode from the old flash gaming days.

Developer(+1)

Oh dang our games are siblings! Kind of Terraria and Starbound or something, haha. Definitely going to try it out next :)

Thanks for playing <3

Had a lot of fun with this one! The realism is impeccable: I’m thousands of dollars in debt and getting a dog anyway… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Developer (1 edit)

The deeper in debt, the more important dog friend is! haha

Thanks for playing :)

This feels so cohesive on all fronts, I am simply amazed!

While I can't say I've paid off my debt yet, I'm definitely getting better, and I like the choice of having the countdown relate to digging actions instead of measuring time in seconds, it gives the player a chance to plan ahead instead of blindly rushing downward.

My only real gripe is regarding upward movement. Not having a jump or a way to move up a single tile feels quite punishing, especially when digging out a seam or even just misclicking a direction in a corridor, I'd love to see that aspect looked into a bit further.

Developer (2 edits)

Thank you! :D

There's a power-up in the shop called the Thrilling Ladder. It's a little buggy and not well balanced since it went in last minute, but it lets you build upward so you can return to areas you've missed. The level design tries to encourage some "oo I see something interesting above me, maybe I should buy a ladder for tomorrow", but with the limited time we didn't really do a great job communicating that to the player.

Very fun idle game, well accomplished 2d version of A Game About digging a hole

Developer

Appreciate it! Thank you for playing <3 First I'm hearing about this other hole digging game, looks interesting!

This feels like a very complete little game. Reminds me of all those days I spent in stardew valley... First purchase had to be the good boy :)

Developer

Thanks for playing :) Dog friend is best friend for sure

This game is fun to play! It reminds me of the day I dig in Minecraft.
