great work on the art assets! i am glad that i have to enter the line before the countdown starts, gave me the breather before the next fight

Good game! So much to do, and i really like the time limits on everything. Remiends me of the gold old flash game days!

There's a big amount of work here! I love the arcade feeling of the game and the addition of the shop with the countdown is pretty smart! Though I have to admit that the shop part was a little bit stressful and unpleasant. I like the concept of rushing to get your addons, but there's something that made the experience not so great to me, maybe it's about making the shop a tiny bit smaller? Or making the robot faster?

But overall it's a great game. And congrats on the audio work which is quite amazing!

Developer

Thanks so much for the feedback! That’s very interesting, because I’ve gotten feedback from others saying that the shop was too boring/repetitive and not intense enough. I think I’d honestly just need to rework the entire store experience and devote some actual time to balancing it. Thank you for your perspective!

Very fun and unique game!!!

Very fluid gameplay. I had some audio issues, after a while I din't hear any sound, but maybe it was only me. Good job

Fun and unique. An enjoyable game. Good work.

I liked everything about this game, especially the art. Great idea turning the upgrade system into it's own mini game too. Great work!

Great job! The visuals and the audio really work well together, the gameplay itself is really responsive, but I feel like some of the attacks needed some sort of cooldown to make it more challenging since you could just spam them. Still had a lot of fun with it though!

Very interesting concept and artstyle! I didn't understand how money was calculated though, is it linked to the time of completion? I seemed to get more money when going faster, even on the easier levels. Otherwise, it's a great game!

Developer

thanks! I honestly don’t fully understand how the money works either. My goal was to make it that the more time remaining, and the higher the round, the more money you get. But I messed something up in the code somewhere making it so that it doesn’t work exactly like I intended, or display the numbers accurately. And unfortunately I didn’t have time to fix it.

Responsive and satisfying game play done by great visual and audio design. It's a fun and well polished for such a short amount of time. The ship feels good to control and the enemies rewarding to kill. I think it needs tweaking in some ends, especially the shopping phase which never really became that stressful - but these things are difficult in a game jam. Overall well done!

i like the idea of planning out your shop route to minmax your time, i did find that the attack had no cooldown so you could just endlessly spam it and maximize attack to mow through everything and doing so broke the sound for the rest of the game somehow lol, also there was a big delay from when the level started to when i could actually move but that could be just my device being weak.

Developer

Thanks so much! There isn’t a cooldown on the primary main attack, but there should’ve been a cooldown on the optional weapon upgrades (the red boxes in the store). I didn’t experience the sound breaking or a big delay to start the level when testing, so I’ll have to look into that. Thanks for pointing it out!

The combat was pretty fun and the artwork/particles worked well! The shopping sequence was also a nice idea with the theme, though I am a bit confused by the first round at the shop since you don't have any money yet to get anything. I am assuming that first time is meant for you to scout out what is in there for subsequent visits, but if that is the case, I wish that was communicated to us. Otherwise, nice job!

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately the first-round-shop didn’t have that much thought into it… I was resetting all the variables from the debug values to their initial values for the game, and accidentally set the money to 0. Then by the time I noticed it, there wasn’t enough time to publish a new build. Using it as a scouting time is a good idea though!

Satisfying gameplay! I really liked your music and SFX choices as well. It would be cool if you could spend money in order to buy money, for shopping time or actual battle time. That way there could be an interesting mechanic where you have to balance the two currencies.

Developer(+1)

I actually had some ideas similar to that. One was that any extra time you had when completing a level would be added to a “bonus time” ability where you could use it up to extend your timer. And another was an ability that would increase your timer. But unfortunately I ran out of time to add either of them. I wish I had though, you’re right, I think forcing you to balance the currencies more would’ve been a good addition!

It's an interesting game. The gameplay is smooth and challenging, the visuals work well, and I really like the crowd cheering whenever you blow things up.

If you plan to keep developing it, one idea could be to make the shop item prices partially random. That would give players a better reason to spend time browsing the shop instead of always buying the same things.

Developer

As of right now I don’t know if I have plans to continue with it, but that’s a really good idea.

Haha, that robot could easily do some shoplifting :D
Lovely game! Sounds, Visuals, Shooties - all good!)

Wowies, WAY more fun than it had any business being. The glitchy music and the crowd cheering was a great touch. Be proud of this one y'all. Not many jam games leave me feeling like they need to expand on what they did but this one was absolutely one of them!

Thank you so much!

I loved this game! I love how even when seemingly simple, there's actually 2 forms of currency - the time and the money. If I took too long or grabbed too many things I made life hard on myself for the next round, so the game turned more into an optimization thing where I had to figure out just how much to buy at a given moment to be prepared but also have enough time. Making the actual timer the health was awesome because I couldn't just grab 10 defense kits and tank all the hits, I actually had to pick and choose what to get.

Awesome game man!

Thank you! That was exactly the experience I was aiming for, so I’m glad it landed with you!

It was a very fun game,  really liked music and sound effects but the aiming was a little annoying. it fits the theme really well and I liked the upgrading shop. Overall great job!

Creativity: Overall a pretty nice concept which adhered to the theme of the jam well! The dichotomy of having to balance finance with weight is interesting but doesn't seem to put that much of an impact on the game, I never felt like I was too heavy to complete a shopping trip in time. The enemy designs were visually appealing, but lacked a little variety in behaviour. I'd recommend adding a really weak enemy at the start that doesn't even try to move or dodge; then moving onto moving enemies.

Enjoyment: The game was enjoyable, I give each gamejam game 5 minutes to show me their vertical slice and 5 more if I enjoy the game. I played the game for fifteen minutes total so rest assured it kept my attention.

Narrative: Not much of a concrete narrative, but I get the overall vibe, you are spaceship you buy upgrades etc. There were no elements that created narrative dissonance.

Artwork: I have a weak spot for neon glowing aesthetics especially in 2D. I enjoyed the little details of polish such as the tred marks left by the robot and the way that bullets looked.

Audio: The fact it has sound and music certainly clears a hurdle a lot of entries don't tend to clear. The music wasn't too repetitive or grating, and the sound effects were punchy. My suggestion would be for the pitch of the sound to lower or heighten depending on the size of opponent you defeated.

Overall thoughts:

Great job Jackson! This is a pretty nice compact game.
