the art for this is great! we liked the simplicity. we also liked how there are multiple paths. some music and sound would make it better. we look forward to your future games! :)
Heyyyy it's you! Thank you so much for taking a look at my game. The simplicity was actually unintentional but it somehow works in the end haha, and yeah it was tough to find a good free music out there that isnt AI, so unfortunately it didn't make it in time.
I will turn this game into a full game next month, that was my plan. And thank you again for reviewing my game :D
we can make music if you like?
Why player controls stuck on X and Z buttons? D: i cant play with it. Camera very shaky i prefer the smooth one
Im sorry, the game is intended to be played with arrow key and ZX. And the camera thing was a bug that i didn't found out until someone mentioned it here (it's a FPS related issue) thanks for the feedback! Maybe next time I should make much clearer keybinds.
Super fun! One of the funnest games I've played this jam. Very SpeedRunners-esque! Wish there was more! My only gripes are some platforming controls.
I also happened to make a platformer this jam, but we went very different directions haha
Thanks for reviewing mine! Yeah all of the platforming issues are due to either that i dont have enough time or i just dont want to touch the spaghetti that is the player code 😅
I will fix some of that after the jam is finished (the low gravity is intended and there is input buffer for jumping but must've been too weak), but thank you again!
I really liked the mechanic. The wall climbing combined with the slide and all the movement in general feel so smooth. I had fun playing, the only thing is that i would polish somehow or remove the camera shaking which can cause a bit of motion sickness after a while
Thank you so much! And yeah the camera thing is already fixed and ready to be uploaded after this jam. (I haven't playtested this game on a pc once, I don't know how bad the jittery gets because on mobile it looked fine) And I added extra tweaks to the camera offset so it doesn't cause motion sickness.
Actually i figured out on more technical standpoint is that, the Camera2d doesn't follow the player through physics so it was using _process which ticks every frame while _physics_process ticks 60/s. Which means on higher framerate (forgot to cap it) the camera smoothing moves faster than the player thus the jittery (and thats why it works fine on my phone because i capped it at 60hz).
Good job! I like that you could take multiple routes in a lot of places
Thanks! One of them is impossible to pass though, i hope no one noticed
cool game , the platformes in the end are cool
Thanks!
Thank you , can you try and rate my game pls ☺ ☺
Unfortunately I don't have a pc to play your game, I'm sorry :<
no problem ☺
awesome
Stick figure Celeste speedrunner? Don't mind if i do!
Hell yeah!
Overall, this is a fun platforming game. I think one thing you can improve when it comes to the platform is the slipperiness. For a game like this, I think tighter physics would be more fun but I also understand if you like the slipperiness because it adds difficulty. The camera also has some weird jitter/shaking. I’m not sure if its intentional but figured I’d call it out.
Good work!
Don't hesitate on making criticism, all you said are valid criticism and yeah i agree on all of it, though i gotta say slipperiness was intentional. It was supposed to be platformer into one direction game but i made most platforms you can stand on way too little for that amount of speed and acceleration could be upped a bit more. About camera jittering, I already fixed that on my current build but thanks for pointing it out anyway!
We had pretty similar games lol, the movement feels really fluid, its a shame you didn't have more time to make some levels, I would've loved a section that really makes use of the slide jump or the on off blocks at the end
Yeah, i have like 15+ unused levels in the code, maybe a little overscoped just a little
Wow this was so fun! I like the idea for the playground at the end it helps have some sandbox movement fun! Also the animations for the player were soo cute! hes so silly! I will say the camera was a bit snappy and the movement was a bit unresponsive at times but I still had a blast. Also I will say ~~my favorite tech in this game was slide+jump it's so much of a cool boost! And then Slide+Jump+Boost is awesome lol! Great Job!! I had so much fun! (Ps. I did beat your game <3)
Aww thank you very much for checking my game!
The camera was hard to play around and polish, i tried a little bit but its far from smooth. And the unresponsive movement, well the input is not but the weird movement mostly came from the fact that there is no coyote time, slide animation determines the length of your slide and not your input, there is a pivot mechanic that i thought would be cool to add but sometimes it restricts people that often press opposite directional input to not fall off a ledge.
Also congrats! You discovered 1 out of 4 special tech! Didn't get to use any for the level though, but did you know that you can hold slide in mid air to dive down? Anyway thanks for beating my game!
Yes! I did see the sliding in mid-air brings me down! I didn't try it in my optimizations of each level though because I kept messing up and shooting into a spike lol. And yeah I did notice there was no coyote time either, but tbh I played a lot of rage game platformers who purposely don't include that so it wasn't much of an issue for me lol. What are the other 2 special tech? i'm curious, I may have noticed them but didn't think much of it during my time trials lol. But you did very great on this game its so fun!
Most of the tech are accidental but the intentional one is that you can chain slide jump with dive kind of like wavedash in celeste (that's what the dive is for), the other one is pivot boosting which you just slide then press opposite direction and loop (pivot conserves speed and convert it to the opposite direction) until you reach max possible speed. Last one is just reverse slide boost (basically slide boost but you hold opposite direction on the jump) it makes you go backwards in an instant.
Ahh I think i've done a few of them before, thats awesome!! Also tech is usually accidental lol, I rmbr once I was making a small platformer for my friends with a bomb explosion movement mechanic (You drop a bomb and it explodes boosting you, It was actually really consistent surprisingly) I didn't have a wall jump or climb at the time and was planning on adding it, until I realized you can scale walls by hugging it and spamming the bomb button lol cuz the hitbox would accidentally stick to the wall lol, I kept it made it easier and turned it into a game mechanic, my friends loved it! :)
You say you lack programming skills but this is an extremely well polished platformer in the time we had! I'd love to see what you could do with more time and practise. Really loved the animation of the character and the death effect.
Thanks! I'm planning to make the full game, I think the concept of this game is very fun and I have a LOT of mechanics I can add in my mind.
Very cool! I really like how the momentum is conserved when jumping after a slide. If i had to give a bit of feedback it would be to set the Camera2D's process callback to Physics. That way, it follows the player at the same rate as it's moving and you avoid that little jitter. Aside from that, very solid entry!
Ah thank you!!! I didn't know i can do that, that was really helpful thank you so much!
Really fun little platformer, simple style with a clean execution! It's actually remarkably similar in gameplay to my game LIFEDROP if you want to check it out, right down to the collectibles needed to get to the next checkpoint. Congrats on the game!
Haha thanks! I will check out your game too
Love the detail for if I'm sliding and jump afterwards I keep the momentum, that was really fun! Although I think the levels are pretty steep in the difficulty curve and I just can't beat the level after the jump pad is introduced
Thank you so much! Don't worry that was the last level lol
Fun and fluid movement! The graphics were quite minimalistic which looked good. Could have used some sfx, but overall fun to play!
Thank you! Yeah, i agree there's just no sound and it most likely would make the platforming even more satisfying.
woww I had fun playing this :D it's definitely challenging but I love it!
Aww thank you very much!
Who hurt you? Lol. Man, this is a tough platformer, and then the countdowns get smaller? Lol. Still, gameplay's nice. Could've used some music or sound effects to really make it pop.
Thanks man i appreciate it :D
but why x tho
I took the keybinds from the game Celeste which is a popular 2d platformer game but i think i got it slightly flipped, and you're supposed to use arrow keys with it.
Very fun!
