I am gonna be honest, I could not understand the full poetica of this. But I love poetry even if I can't fully understand it all.
Also the fact this not only mimics gameboy's aesthetics (which fit perfectly) but is indeed made for gameboy and is running on an emulator is something else.
Had to pack up for a trip, so I didn’t get to finish it yet. I’m looking forward to the rest of it once I get back in town. All in all though I’ve enjoyed it so far. The dialogue is intriguing and I can definitely tell a lot of thought went into it; very mysterious too. . . Oh, I did give it a nice rating though already since I won’t be back in time to finish it before the judging concludes.
I'm in love with strange, cryptic, and dark games, so this was very interesting to witness. The art style, the drawings, the sound design – all incredible choices. If you couldn't tell from my profile pic, I love using rabbits for symbolism, so I enjoyed interpreting the dialogue and poems along with the gameplay. Loved it! PS: my game's a dark one too if you wanna try it :)
Gameboy games are so unusual for jams, very nice! I loved all this retro vibe mixed with some deep storytelling. I'm too stupid to understand all this plot, but overall i like your interpretation!
This feels like a game I find in like a youtube video essay and not a jam submission lol. Seeing multiple different genres of games was a nice surprise though i wished that the story was more incorperated with the gameplay and not mostly just cutscenes but overall really cool game!
ye, looking back at it the ladybug, heart (and probably others too) were probably some sort of symbolism given the fact that they a different color palette, But what I was more referring to is altering the mechanics as a form of storytelling (like maybe removing double jump as a sign of weakness or something like that), as I feel its more engaging when the player is actively feeling the emotion/struggles of the character.
I love games with a game boy aesthetic, the art is pretty high-quality, and the sound design too. Ever since I saw the game on discord, I've wanted to play it. It feels like a breath of fresh air after endless games about burning chairs, I love it when a theme isn't interpreted too literally. Good job :D
I am a fan of this kind of aesthetic. But i think that the game's trailer is much more in line with that aesthetic than the game itself. My guess is this is a modern take on old creepypastas about haunted and / or forgotten games, like sonic.exe. But the game itself doesn't feel omnious or mysterious at all. There is never a moment when the player questions the game's normality, aside from, maybe, the ending. It feels like any normal game would.
The game itself is meh. Me and my buddy who i made the game with experienced trouble completing the game because of a weird save state implementation, where if you fail at a certain levels you go straight back to the level before that. That is a problem, because controls feel wonky and doing platforming or dodging enemies with weird hitboxes is a massive pain in the ahh.
Also, the theme doesn't seem to align with the jam's theme. I guess slow burn is the girl burning alive during cut-scenes or maybe slow-burn is implemented in slow-burning story, but it seems too subtle, honestly. I was questioning whether or not this game is made for this jam specifically, considering other games in your portfolio. Not accusing you of anything, just pointing out that theming is not entirely obvious.
The game was made for the jam slow burning is both by the fact she is literally on fire and that she is "slowly buring inside" also no my game was not going for forgotten game creepypasta this one is just about mental health, also the controlls are standard gameboy ones I'm surpised that you found it "wonky". I actually know nothing about making trailers so yeah sorry for misleading lol, thanks for the feedback
There's so much to this game! Well done on getting so many different mechanics in. Although I don't think I'm the target audience for this type of game, I can appreciate the art and all the effort put in!
