Fun MadLib! it’s been a while, but enjoyable to be able to do one yourself.

As others said, some QoL for text input would be nice, even just focusing the text box initially if you could would help.

Well, is an interesting game, was really funny how can we change the histories x3, also good idea to combine the constelations and the stargazing theme, well done.

Maybe check the UI cause some times the Next, or Back button block part of the text so it can be readed, play it small in the resolution you put in itchio.

Other than that feel like a really good entry, something different and enjoyable.

Developer

Thanks. I tended to use short words for efficiency while play testing, so that issue never came up.

Okay, this one was definitely a different kind of jam entry!

I really liked the chill, silly vibe of the Madlib idea — especially seeing how completely unhinged the story can become depending on the words you put in 😂 Orion and the dogs made for a fun little constellation-themed story, and the music fit the relaxed atmosphere really nicely.

I do think it feels more like an interactive story/Madlib experience than a traditional game, so I was hoping for a little more gameplay or interaction beyond entering words and reading the result. Also, making the text fit perfectly on every screen would help the experience feel more polished.

Still, huge respect for actually making and finishing a jam entry! Writing the whole story, setting up the prompts, and getting everything working in a jam is no small thing. Nice work and congrats on the submission! 🚀

If you get a free moment, please check out my game too and leave me a comment/review! I'd really appreciate it.

Good luck with the jam and keep creating! ✨

I’ve played similar games while ago and your game made me laugh. =) I had some trouble reading the story, as the text on a couple of screens ended up under the button or below the bottom of the screen. It’s a shame, because the story is very nice!

Developer

Thanks. I was confused for a moment when you mentioned the text not being visible under the button, since I had never seen that during play testing. Then I remembered I always used the shortest words possible to speed up the process and actual player are probably not doing that. I'll see if I can tweak the screen or text size.

You made me revisit my grammer... lol. Had good time reading the story.  This is a nice chill game. Good job!

Oh, it’s magic when the words I type are understood and the game puts them in the right order! I think the buttons should also be pressable with the keyboard, as that would feel more natural. I could just type my answer and press Enter to continue to the next one.

Madlibs are so cool! We agree with Inglo Games' comment on the enter key thing, but other than that, thank you so much for this enjoyable story! We loved that you took the time and effort to write out this story. Writing stories takes a long time and the fact that you also coded a madlib must've taken more time. It was super nostalgic playing this game. Thank you, again.

Developer

Thanks for your kind words <3. I could not get the input box in my engine to register a player pressing Enter. Otherwise, I would have preferred that too.

This is not the most ambitious game in this jam, but hell, I HAD FUN!

The main problem is the text field had a character limit, so Canis Minor wanted to play "Total eclipse of the heart" by played "the bad touch".

Also, the story was awfully dirty... nope, that's on me!

Developer

The story was dirty? Yeah, that tends to happen in Madlibs XD

Sorry about the character limit. I never noticed until today when I tried to type "50 Ways to Leave Your Lover." During play testing, I tried to use the shortest words possible and usually put "Hello" down for song title. I very much need to allow more characters after the jam.

Gameplay 3/5 - It was enjoyable enough for me to finish the story.  Orion is a cucumber head indeed.  One minor tip: it's tedious for the player to have to keep switching between the keyboard to type and the mouse to click continue, so making it so the "Enter" key goes to the next prompt would have been very nice.  Little touches like that really smooth out a game's rough edges!

Creativity 2/5 - Nothing new about mad libs, but it was done well.

Art Style 2/5 - Very simple, a custom font or input field would have gone a long way for making it look more visually consistent.

Audio 3/5 - The music was a good choice.  It was very soothing while going through the story.

Theme 3/5 - Working the constellations into the story was a nice touch.

Developer

Thanks. Cucumber head is indeed the funniest, though I usually aimed for 'pea' or 'bean' in the many times I play tested since they have less letters. I appreciate your comment on the font. Changing the default font is not something I often think of, but it might really have improved the vibe of the game. I have tried making the input box clear on Enter in the past, but it would not register. Something about the input box object in my engine does not allow it.

The idea is good, and the sound was great too. It was fun to play! The story wasn’t that good at the end because of the adjectives and verbs I chose, haha. Nevertheless, it was still okay!

If you could make some code that generates a story depending on the words you choose, that would be really cool. For example, you could have a dictionary of words, and depending on which words the player chooses, the game could generate a different story. It would be a little difficult, but it would be really fun  like having your own little AI that creates stories, haha!

Developer(+1)

Thanks. Coincidentally, I just replayed and realized I need to tweak some parts at the end because  the adverb gets skipped and I added an -ing after the verb instead of telling the player to use an -ing verb, which threw off the grammar.

Yeah good catch 🪝, keep creating ✍️ and good luck

i actuallly think this is creative, after round 1 ended i didnt have a goo mind again, and started experimenting,Very good experience

While it doesn't suit the theme that much, I had a lot of fun playing it! Trying to actively make the story as ludicrous possible was definitely the most fun way to play.

Gameplay / Fun / Engagement

- Simple, known formula for creating stories. It is not amazingly engaging but some people might appreciate simplicity.

Creativity / Experiment

- Not a lot of creativity, just old simple game coated with a little bit of star theme

Art Style / Visuals

- charming

Audio / Sound Design

- charming

Theme

- I think this kind of gameplay can be attach to a lot of themes, so I am not sure if gameplay utilizes theme enough

Good effort. Simply making and finishing game is hard work, so good job. I hope we will see some more in future jams.

i was actually looking forward to playing this because of discord.  Well, I honestly think it went a bit far from the theme, but even so, it was a funny one haha very silly, i like it

Developer

Thanks. Glad you enjoyed the finished game. I knew it would probably not be a 100% perfect fit with the theme, but it was I felt like working on and I'm okay with the result. (I technically was going to add a final round after they get home where Orion briefly scolds Canis Minor, then gets some random snacks for himself and the dogs, but barely got in the first 3.)
