Theme Interpretation
The core loop already fits the theme almost literally. Petting the cat fills its energy meter, so the cat is charging, and then you release that charge into one of two outlets, attacking the rats or feeding the experience bar. Charge, then discharge into a choice. That's already built, nothing needs to change mechanically. There's also a wordplay angle worth using. "Charge" can also mean a dependent, someone entrusted to your care. The cat is literally your charge in that sense too.

I beat hard! And is _was_ hard lol. Love the cats, love the mice. Only thing is the sound effect when hovering over a menu button is awful...  Loved the game itself tho! :D

Submitted

So many cute cats in this game.

Tho I prefer if all cats have some different soft spots that cats very much prefer.

Rats with dialog is also very charming as well.

gonna look for more levels I think.

Submitted

took me a minute to figure out why the game wasn't moving, turns out I hit free play the first time lol

Submitted

Really nice! I thought the systems were very clear and I love nothing more than upgrading a multiplier :D The art and sound were great too. Great jam entry, super impressive as a first GWJ entry too!

Fantastic art! Would love to know what program y'all use. We've mostly been using Aseprite for our games but have been looking at Tahoma2D and others to branch out. My son really loved it a lot, and our cat was captivated as well. Good job!

Developer

Thanks so much! I love drawing in Aseprite! This time I used Affinity and Photoshop 2020 for the graphics. To animate everything, I used Godot’s AnimationPlayer node.

PS: I played your game too! I think adding the train to the main menu was a super cool idea ^^ It makes the menu feel much more lively!

Your words mean a lot to us! I’m still figuring out my art style, and my husband is just learning Godot, so it’s really nice to hear that you enjoyed the game. ^^

Fun! Love the purr sounds, cat variety, and Waldo mice. Definitely a big jump from easy and normal to hard—may have been especially difficult because I'm using a trackpad.

Developer

Oh, is petting the cats easier with a trackpad? Just curious, since we tested the game with a graphic tablet to make sure it worked. 😄

Thanks for playing! ^^

I think it was a bit tougher to do the right click/scroll short cuts (the latter I wasn't able to figure out). I did a lot of darting over to the actual buttons on the right, which was fine, everything worked, but those milliseconds were very precious in hard mode, haha

Submitted

Nice game, cute and simple. Loved the cat, haven't tried hard mode yet.

The Where’s Wally rat :chef-kiss:. Such an awesome game all round. What more can you say than praise for a game that lets you pet cats 100% of the time? Great submission, great art, great sound and music, great all round. Thanks for submitting so I could get to play it!

Developer

Thank you so much for the kind comment! It really means a lot to us! ^^

I like the idea needs more balancing. Hard didn't seem possible but seemed really interesting, liked trying to pick the right upgrade and balancing greed on XP vs killing rats.

Normal was too easy, didn't try easiest difficulty.

Love the little touches of the purrs, the eyes following the mouse and cats having sweetspots. Could be funny to have each cat have a different zones they want petted or not.

Also it seemed the music failed to loop.

Ohhh, thank you so much for the kind words! ^^ It really means a lot to us! ❤️ We’re so glad you enjoyed the cats and the graphics!

PS: still think that Your goat charge is *goat* ^^

Super creative take on the theme! Also any game centering around cats is an immediate 10/10 for me. Great job!

Developer

Thank you so much! ^^ It all started with the idea: “Let’s make a game about a cat.” We charge the cat, and petting the cat charges us. 🐱⚡

Submitted

I love caaat <3

Developer

Sooo... a little cat for you! 🐱 I scrapped the first concept for the petting animation
Thank You for comment ^^

Enjoyed the game! :)
...yes, it's easy and could use more mechanics, but it was still a blast to pet the cats. :D
Also big fan of the art style, good job!

Congrats on your first Wild Jam entry! <3

Developer

Ohhh, thank you so much! It really means a lot to us. <3 We’re so happy you enjoyed the game and had fun petting the cats! :D

Very good artwork! I think hard mode is maybe a little bit (way) too hard and could use some balancing, though.

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! ^^

Submitted

Really this game, only thing is that on hard mode you can clear the mice in 3 fully charged attacks and otherwise the mice get way to overwhelming

Developer

You’re the third person to notice this ^^ We actually planned to make achievements for this, but they didn’t make it into the build.

So, Sir Kooshi, I hereby declare you the official achievement unlocker. 🫡

Submitted

I really love the art, I think that and the cats eyes moving to follow your cursor are the real standouts here. I found Easy and Normal to be too easy and sadly did not see much point in sending for experience when I could spam pet the cat and outpace rat growth. In all though this was a lovely experience!

Developer

Thank you!! I’m really glad you liked the art and the moving eyes! 🥹 We’ll probably take the petting mechanics further in a different project. We really liked how the eyes turned out, so we’ll most likely add more cat animations and reactions too! 🐱💕

Developer

Oh, I almost forgot! I saw on stream that you played the game. There really should’ve been an achievement for discovering in Hard mode that you can just send the cat! We didn’t have time to add those in. So please, fell like You got a achievment ^^

The stuff in the background in Free Play is actually the achievement first sketch artwork.

Also, my friend played the game and asked whether it was intentional that sending the cat is OP because of the whole “charge” theme. It wasn’t 😅 For some reason, the itch build weakened the mice in Easy and Normal.

Submitted

Very cute game! I find the difficulte not balanced tho; easy and normal seems too easy for me but I am not able to beat the rats in the hard option.

I like the cats designs, they are very cute, and teh decision making think its cool!

Developer

Thank you!! 🥹 And yeah, the difficulty is definitely a bit weird haha. We ran out of time for proper balancing, so it’s really interesting to see how different people experience it. Glad you liked the cats! 🐱
If we ever decide to take this game further, we’d definitely add more cats and more reaction animations. 🐱💕
