Did your team create most/all of the graphics yourselves?
Yes

Did your team create most of/all the audio yourselves?
Yes

How did you incorporate the theme "UNSTABLE"?
The game is set in a virtual/holographic combat simulator. Each new level is randomly determined, each new enemy is randomly determined, enemy behaviors are random, and damage amounts are random. When either an enemy or the player-character is destroyed, they "phase-out" of the simulation. The audio relies on ambiguous and even non-existent tonality.

Nice simple game! I really like the gameboy pixel art style here, and the music  you made is also awesome. Great job!

Nice artstyle and very solid gameplay! I really like the random level generation as well, good job!

Solid gameboy style entry. Surprised there wasn't more this year! The main gameplay loop felt good with the only exception to some damage seemed unfair in terms of enemies still firing even after dying and some pellets looking like they should have missed but didn't. Other than that, fun little experience.

Thank you for playing! There are definitely a few small but present quirks in the interactions between actors, which I mostly ironed out but ultimately wasn't able to tighten everything. Glad you enjoyed it overall!

Holy smokes this is really cool! I love the Gameboy aesthetic, reminds me of games I used to play growing up. I can definitely see this being expanded upon. Really great job!

Edit: I loved the Eye enemy, reminded me Zelda :D

I'm glad you enjoy it! The enemies were so much fun to design, and I tried to make each enemy have their own identity. The eye enemy is one of my favorites! Thank you for playing!

Ahhh I LOVE THIS! It gave me so much nostalgia to the old gameboy games I used to play. Its pretty simple and the enemy types are pretty nice but the player character felt like it needed just a little bit more mechanics as I felt a bit limited.

Developer

I'm glad you enjoy it! I was leaning hard into the classic arcade genre: limited mechanics but with high variability for high replayability. The initial idea was to have different characters to choose from, each with different weapons, but I scrapped that early on in the jam to focus on different enemy types and all of the randomization. Thank you for playing!

It's an idea I particularly like, several enemies to face individually, this opens up the possibility for each character to be unique. Unfortunately, I didn't get that far, but it seems to have a wide variety of enemies, I enjoyed it.

The fun part about Holoseum is the random element, especially between playthroughs. I've had runs with several easy enemies in a row, and runs where it was just a slugfest against tricky enemies in a row. Thank you for playing and I'm glad you enjoyed it!

In this game, I really liked the graphics, the style of the game, as well as the sounds with music. But the gameplay is very boring for me personally, just walking around and pressing two buttons is very monotonous. But for other people, maybe it's fun. You did well.

I would be glad if you could play my game, thank you very much)

Arcade games from yesteryear had very limited gameplay but with each playthrough being slightly different than the next. This is what I was working towards, and I certainly see how it's not for everyone. Thank you for giving Holoseum a chance!

Great work on a solid retro-style game - conceptually simple yet a lot of fun! I particularly like the variety of enemy designs with their different behaviours and thus required strategies. Would have probably played it a lot on a handheld as a kid. :D

I'm glad you enjoy it! I had fun designing the different enemies.

Very classic feeling solid entry. Clearly put a lot of work into this and it shows. Well done! The crazy music was a nice addition.

Check out my game if you get a chance 😊.

Thank you for playing! I put a lot of thought into the idea up front, grabbing elements from arcade and old PC games. It was so much fun to develop, and I'm glad you enjoy it!

Maybe I'm just realllllly feeling the nostalgia but this was very simple and satisfying. It's also a solid base that you could add so many things to as well!  Would've played something like this for hours curled up just blasting away when I was younger.

(edit: forgot to mention, I played this after just randomly seeing the name. It's a good one!)

Thank you for playing and for the kind words! My goal was a simple yet engaging arcade-style arena game. I toyed with a few "extra" ideas (multiple enemies per fight, different characters, different weapons), but decided early on to scrap them to focus on making the core idea fun. I'm happy you enjoyed it!
