How does the game fit the theme?
Deep Night puts real-player diplomacy at its core: trade, treaties, and alliances that share your vision and open your borders. That cooperation is exactly what makes betrayal bite. An ally can turn and take the very worlds they were just helping you hold, and the galaxy remembers every broken pact forever. Co-op and PvP aren't separate modes here; they're the same relationships. Trust and betrayal is what makes a game like this so interesting. You have to trust someone to survive, while they're deciding the same about you.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?

The scope seems crazy! And its very well polished, it definitely seemed like alot to learn, but very impressive

Developer(+1)

Thank you!  In some ways, the scope is not as crazy as it seems because our mantra was to keep the tech stack as simple as possible, and focus on making the gameplay interesting and strategic, and portraying the epic scale.

this is extremely cool, i don't understand how you made something like this in a week. i'm a big fan of anything multiplayer related especially when it comes to game jams, as most devs shy away from multiplayer in such a short time frame. i'm super excited to see if i can find another player. great work!

Developer

Thanks! Honestly, we were a bit worried about doing a multiplayer game for the jam, but that's our wheelhouse and it's the type of game we enjoy making and playing.

It was so exciting the first time we saw another player in the game! You will definitely meet other players if you keep playing for a bit. There are already a decent number that have made contact with each other and formed alliances, and even some war breaking out already.

Damn very polished and well made. Most devs fear the scope creep but the scope creep is afraid of you.

Developer(+1)

Lol, honestly we don't know when to stop.

Really impressive scope management for a game jam. The UI and overall presentation look really polished. I really like how you can zoom in and out between the planets and the galaxy, along with all the gameplay detail as well. Great job!

Developer

Thank you! We spent A LOT of time just playtesting and polishing, glad it came through.

The galaxy zoom was one of the very first ideas we had for it, because we really wanted to give it that epic sense of scale. You start off as this puny insignificant civilization on some random rock, and you have to really explore and expand into the galaxy.

This is a brute gem, that's all i can say. I can't play it so much, cause I'm trying to rate as much games as I can, but like, what? You guys made up this in 7 days? This really need an applause. I don't really get it how it sticks to the theme, maybe is a bit far-fetched, but It doesn't really matter when you have this game going on. You can gave it his own page to play it! I'll be testing it a bit more during dead time in work, for sure! Congrats guys, idk what kind of magic you get to do this games, but what a great game!

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much! The deeper in you get and more players in the galaxy the more you get the social element of theme. The diplomacy, the alliances, and betrayals. :-D It's all starting to happen in game (just takes some time... by design haha). Unfortunately that's not the easiest stuff to show off in a jam setting, but we are definitely going to keep it going afterward, and do a full release after some improvements.

Best time to play is when you're bored at work. ;-)

This is a really great game. I don't know how you managed to create something like this in such a short time. Good job! It just takes a lot of time to play. You did a great job.

Developer

Thank you!  Haha, yeah, for a game that you can just drop in periodically, I still find myself staring at the screen for long periods of time.

This is kinda insane bro, did u guys sleep during the jam 0_o? , kinda overwhelming but ig i could see myself playing for a while if i have a lot of time to kill. Awesome Work! (also how is galactic civilisation management short and simple broo)

Developer

Not enough... that's for sure. lol

Instructions unclear... :-D

Thanks!

This is an incredibly polished and high-quality game! I couldn't spend as much time on it as I wanted, given my massive backlog lol. Honestly, this doesn't even feel like a jam project, it feels like a release-ready title. It's tough to fairly rate a slow-burn game like this when the average jam playthrough is only 5 minutes long. That said, it's really good, and I can definitely see myself playing it daily

Developer

Thank you! Honestly these comments mean so much to us, makes all the hard work worth it.

We realized this is probably a hard pitch during a game jam, but we just really wanted to make a game like this anyway, because we wanted to play it ourselves haha. Despite its slow-burn nature, we're hoping that people will still check it out, get hooked, play it in the background while their checking out other games :-D, and keep coming back after the jam.  We plan on fully supporting it and making it even better.

This game is crazy impressive. I haven’t progressed very far yet, but there’s already so much to explore and I can definitely see myself getting addicted.

Also, a message to all future civilizations: please do NOT betray BOOMBOOM Town. We are a friendly and peaceful civilization and would very much like to keep it that way.

Developer(+1)

lol love that! One of the first alliances just formed in game, if we run into you, we will invite you!

And thanks so much for the kind words, we really appreciate it.

Cool game! Love the atmosphere. But i don`t really like MMO ganre... Sorry...

Developer(+1)

Thanks for trying it!

Submitted(+1)

the scope here is mad for a week, a real colony economy with the upkeep maths right there in the tooltips, plus a diplomacy layer where betraying an ally costs public reputation. queued a research lab and just wanted to keep going, amazing job

Developer

Really appreciate the kind words! We got a little carried away the deeper we got and didn't want to stop haha. :-D

We're really hoping enough people start playing that we get some great diplomacy interactions between players and they share their stories.  We had some really fun double-crosses while playtesting.

I have the utmost respect for your choice of genre. I've just started playing, and I feel like it's going to take a long time to progress. But I'm eager to see what I can achieve. The game looks like a solid, well-made product.

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Yes, it's a very slow progression by design. The kind of game you play in the background when you're doing other stuff (or on your phone randomly). So it's not the best to show off in a short time in a jam setting, haha :-D, but we're hoping some people will dig it and play it over a longer time.  It's definitely the type of game that gets better with more players and the more you progress.

(still waiting for my research to complete :D but wanted to give the feedback)
well structured game - there are a lot to explore! :)
the neat UI is also very nice.

Developer(+1)

Thanks! We've just been playing Deep Night in the background as we're trying out everyone else's games. Multitasking... :-D

This looks like a full game the took a team years to complete. im genuinely amazed at how much you guys were able to pull of in just a week! Although MMOs aren't for me, this is just insane. props to you for making this incredible game

Developer

Really appreciate that!

Submitted(+1)

I'm amazed at the high quality! It looks like something I could really get hooked on.

Developer

Thank you! TBH it's some of the most fun we had playtesting. We're already addicted, haha.

Submitted(+1)

I'm very surprised this was done in a week; it almost feels like an actual MMO. I could see myself grinding this when it's a fully released game!

Developer

Thanks!  Definitely keep an eye on it when we do a full release. And the more players the better it gets. The suspense when you make first contact with another real player is awesome.

Submitted(+1)

This is nuts, immediately blew my mind on the first screen, when you see gamejam submissions you expect small projects as concept ideas, but this is a full on game I would spend hours on

Developer

Thank you so much! We're definitely hoping this a game people will continue to play beyond the jam. Since it's a slow-burn by design, it takes a while to really shine.

Submitted(+1)

There is so much detail in the systems here! The visuals look great and get so much done with the perspective!

Developer(+1)

Thanks!

No way this was made in a week. it looks really cool, though. Would you mind rating my game as well? Btw which engine or techstack did you use for this?

Developer

Thanks! That might be the best compliment we could get, haha.  TBH the ideas and paper design have been in our heads for a while and the jam just fit, but all the code was written this week with many sleepless nights :-D. We actually tried to keep it as simple as possible with the techstack because of the limited timeframe. It's all just TS, with Colyseus doing the heavy lifting.

It's a live persistent galaxy though, and the more people that play the more fun it is! So please tell your friends! :-)
