Description
Theme

A world-changing catastrophe tore through the realm a century ago, leaving behind scorched ruins, lingering dread, and an ongoing fight for survival among the few who endured. When hunger gnaws at every belly and tomorrow is never guaranteed, most see little reason to ponder the mysteries of the past. Yet daily survival is made all the more brutal by the horrors spawned in the collapse, black plagues that sweep through squalid settlements, the restless dead clawing their way from unhallowed earth, and grotesque occurrences only whispered about in the dark corners of taverns.

In this landscape of misery and superstition, many of the broken populace has turned toward religious zealotry. Desperate for salvation or simply terrified of the dark, people lock to the old Gods, and when their shepherding fails, far more sinister altars offer an answer.

True protection does not exist. The ruling authorities’ reach is stretched dangerously thin, their hands far more preoccupied with lining their own pockets than defending their borders.

Those who rise in this chaos do so by any means necessary, profiting off sickness, holy terror, and blood.

The player is dragged unwillingly into this tangled web of conspiracies, corrupt politics, fanatical religions, and enigmatic cults. Navigating this havoc-ridden realm means fending off rot and restless corpses while piecing together fragments of a lost world, learning the truth of what fell a century ago, even if that forbidden knowledge proves too heavy to bear.

I went with a track to represent pre-catastrophe "Old World" and the present "New World" , together with a night exploration track. All of them are made with segments that loop, so I can add and retract what I is needed. They were also thought in layers, so in terms of implementation I can add triggers to the individual tracks and instruments, making them appear and disappear as wanted.

Songs of a Forgotten World

How does it fit the theme?
The theme of the game is literally someone from a new world finding the old.

I like the fact that Night Exploration and New World did a great job to portray a world of isolation and despair, while Old World still has a sense of unease even it's contrasting the other two tracks.

Developer(+1)

Thank you so much that was exactly what i was trying to do!

The music goes perfectly with the cover art, and both work to create the dark mood you're conveying. The only thing I can offer is that the solo violin sounds too "out of the box" and could use some EQ, effects, or both to mask its VST quality. Great job overall!

Developer(+1)

Yeah for sure, i'm not entirely satisfied with it, i think some parts of the violin needs to be straight up changed. Thanks for listening!

The sounds in the background of the tracks really sells the vision, the brooding low strings give weight, and percussion drives it through. Well constructed!

cool music and cool cover art!

pretty solid submission!! really like the addition of the live guitar, wonderful job! you do an excellent job storytelling through your tracks. i can tell what the intention was behind each one based on the composition alone. very solid!! thanks for sharing!

Developer(+1)

Thank you!

Oh wow I really loved the night exploration track, did you record that classical guitar? There were a few moment with slightly displeasing intervals, but the general blood/dead/desolation vibe was really there for me!

Developer (1 edit)

Thank you! Yeah, i did record the classical guitar, with really old strings haha. Yeah i noticed the displeasing intervals and dissonances, i thought it would add to the feel so i kept it :)
