Description
The soundtrack is inspired by various tribal and contemporary Aztec music. I tried to capture the rhythms and sounds of those songs and make it a tiny bit more game-y.
The game I imagined this soundtrack for, is some type of RPG where you play as a affluent member of a lost forest tribe. Your fellow villagers are here to help you while you embark into an adventure to make your tribe known to the world again.
One track is a simple background music for the menu, very simple and giving a preview into the game's ambience, starting with what I tried to make the one motif of the game.
Another is for when browsing the village, it's a peaceful song with some changes but not too much, I imagined to loop to be like those older MMORPGs that have a song fading out on one sound and then looping like nothing happened.
The last one is a song for when a battle happens, with an intro for the very initiation of the fight. This song has more tension and is carried by wider war drums bringing.
Regarding the process, I first had to identify some of the particularities of the music I wanted to make, the rhythms, the flute work.... Then I selected a sound palette and went to look for CC0 sounds and instruments that would constitute my limits for what to use in my tracks. Then I tried to reproduce some sections of drum patterns, melodies and tremolos, in order to then make my own in a small arrangement.
Because I'm still very much a beginner in music production, I'm sure the mixing is still quite off, but I went with what sounded good enough to me in my alloted time. I did all of that in FL Studio.
Message from the artist
I didn't have the whole week available for working on it, so I set myself the challenge to make those tracks in a weekend. I am open to any feedback on it as I am definitely still learning a lot!
Theme
How does it fit the theme?
I looked for something that has been slowly forgotten over time, and decided to go for something inspired by Aztec music, so I thought of some game where you play as part of a lost tribal civilization

Congratulations! The way you managed to create the intended atmosphere was very interesting. It is always great to see compositions that go beyond traditional Western instrumentation.
The tribal flute built a compelling narrative alongside the drums, while the melody conveyed a sense of "floating" and intrigue.
However, I believe the harmony could be further developed to create a more convincing storytelling effect. As it stands, the sound might come across as somewhat monotonous to the listener.
Even so, it was great to hear your creation, especially considering the short time you had to work on it!
Thanks for the review! I agree that this is likely what is missing in what I created, I'll keep in mind to make a stronger theme and add more variation to the harmony too. I believe with developing the tracks further I would have liked to add some different sections
Hey! I think you are able to match your music to the scenarios you depicted in your description. I think I agree with the other comments. I would say don't be afraid to play around with some reverb, delay, saturator, or flangers. Thanks for sharing!
I'm also a beginner who has some problems with mixing, so maybe i can't judge it properly, but listening to your soundtrack was a comfortable and pleasing experience
Thank you for the feedback :)
The way you captured the tribal nature with the flute calls and world percussion was very nice. At times it can feel a little flat such as the rain stick at the end of the village. I personally think some reverb would have been nice for that specifically to make it seem more wild and natural and less like someone was using a rain stick next to me.
The fight song also feels like the anchor song which is ok but another song to act as like a main theme overall I think would be a good addition. Without it, this feels like it's lacking a certain something to make it an OST rather than just a collection of songs from a game. I understand the time constraints though, just something I personally thought of as a way to further improve it.
Thanks for the advice, I'll keep in mind to play around with reverb and effect in such cases, I also agree some stronger theme might have been helpful to make it more OST-ey.
Truly got into some dense humid forest/jungle from the starting menu ! Great immersion, (I see we had the same idea with the low voice humming thing haha) so tribal. I could definitely see some weird Aztec guys hidden behind trees playing those percs and voicings.
The choices of sounds are very effective and coherent, I loved the rythm and melody in the fight song !
I don't really know what to tell you to improve, I think with mote time to work on these pieces it could get really interesting.
For me your best strenght here is instrumentation and giving immersion in a particular setup. Also the little sound designed here and there were a nice touch !
Well done :)
Sounds good! Love tribal theme and instrument choice
