How does your game meet GBJam's theme
In Kota Chomp, the longer poop sits on the board, the older it gets, until it turns to gold.
This Old Gold is the ultimate food, helping Kota grow stronger and faster.
The more Old Gold you consume, the closer you get to becoming a GOLDEN GOD!
Poop grow old. Poop turn gold.
Eat, grow, poop, and become the golden god of all kots.

The most gameboyish game I've played in the jam. Love the sprite flickering.
got to 195 before I ran out of room. definitely good in terms of feeling like it's running on a GB. the chunky-ness of the movement makes the game difficult (especially after evolving), but it feels authentic.
"Poop grow old. Poop turn gold." is a great tag line, btw.

I actually think the evolution aspect was my least favourite bit. I don't know if it was because the character was so much bigger but to me it felt less fun to play after evolving. Otherwise very serviceable snake clone that felt authentic :)
Really neat game, the evolution mechanic surprised me. Putting that 100 length objective really pushed me to try again just to see what happens at that point, good job !

This is so charming and silly! I legitimately thought I understood the full gameplay loop until Kota EVOLVE!!!! Now I must eat all the poop. There's also just something so funny about the center of the board having those feet. Very amusing, great job!
I dont know if this was intentional but the meows lined up with the music and i found it very satisfying
I think where this game really shines is in how quirky it is. I would not have thought to turn "old gold" into "petrified poop turns into gold" but that's a take and imagination I can respect :)
There is some slight input lag when moving but I find that it actually adds up to the challenge and feels realistic to what this is - quirky snake, right? I really enjoyed this and ended up playing a bit more than I intended with it. Of course I'm not very good at it but it was fun! I might even add it to my gb flashcart I carry around with my gamrboy color (2gb is overkill for gameboy so I just put any random homebrew in it)
