I really liked the idea and the looks of the game, it's a bit confusing but I think I was able to figure it out, well done

How does your game meet GBJam's theme
Fossil Fuel or Oil is "liquid gold" made from fossil fuels(old)!

Super cool design on the oil rig and I think with trial and error I was able to figure out most of the things I was doing but mostly having a little guidance on that first mission would be huge. I think you have a cool unique thing you made though for sure!
Hey, nice game! I didn't really understand what I was supposed to do. Like people have said below, a tutorial would really help, and the music got annoying. Also, I think there should be a run function for one you're walking between stations. It took me forever lol.
I wasn't sure how to play this game on first glance. I think a tutorial or instructions in the description could go a long way!
To start, I would like to say that I think you did a really good job with the art, and the music feels very gameboy. I love the interpretation of the theme, too. Dinosuars and oil are very iconic in my area.
Since you’ve asked for some rule clarifications, I’ll try to be a little more clinical: The entire game has to be 160x144 pixels, the same resolution as a gameboy screen, before it gets scaled up to whatever resolution you want to view it.
The issue you’re having is sometimes referred to as “mixels”. It’s when all of the pixels aren’t conforming to the same grid. Look at the size of one pixel in the word “quota” vs one pixel of the background. There’s other spots where the rule is broken, too. The character’s pixels don’t always align with the 160x144 grid, and neither does background when it pans.

Here’s a picture that highlights what I’m talking about. The character is standing in a way that has them between pixels of the background. It’s clear that it’s not intentional, but you might end up with lower “graphics” and “gameboy soul” scores.
Also, a seperate note: you used the “Playable on Gameboy Hardware” version of the boxart template, but that’s supposed to only be for .gb or .gbc files!
I had the same issue it looks like some others had where when I started day two, my drill didn't reset and so there was no way for me to drill for oil. Because the rig is pretty big, I think the player could benefit from a little more speed to walk between the stations a bit faster. A button to skip to the next day would also be good, maybe make going to the bed early skip to the next day? The visuals are good and I like the theme interpretation of drilling for oil! Good job!
I really liked the gameplay loop and the concept and I believe it was really unique and fun, but unfortunately as other comments have mentioned I couldn't reset the oil reserve after the first day. The visuals were good, it really has that Gameboy feeling. Great Job
The game was a bit confusing on what to do at parts, not sure where to end my qouta or such, made 4 barrels of oil and that is it. The radar is a smidge confusing in terms I don’t understand what difference it makes to choose one over the other as the scan or “travel” is basically instant. While the drill minigame was fun in parts, it’s sound effects were way too loud compared to music levels.
Graphically the game is simple, sadly it breaks the resolution rules with the text.
Overall an interesting concept, needs a bit more time in the oven though.
There are some bugs: if you access the radar, scan for deposits, and leave the table without choosing one, your cursor disappears when you go back to it. Also, when I left the extraction room and came back in, there was an oil drum on the machine but it didn't count (placing an empty one there made the bugged one disappear).
The walk speed is a little bit slow, but I like the idea and the core loop is great. I had fun playing it!
EDIT: Ah, and this character looks a little bit like the Pink Panther :D
I thought the controls were pretty clear, but I couldn't get the drill to reset after reaching the first oil reserve, so I was unable to meet the second day's quota. Hitting B seemed to freeze the game (but not the timer), and the music stopped after the first day.
When I started a new game, I started on Day 3, with the drill still locked in position. The oil already in the tank didn't reset, either. (Also, the controls on the title screen are different from the rest of the game - Enter starts the game, and you can move up and down with a controller but not hit any buttons)
I also noticed that extra oil barrels don't carry over to future days, so the best thing to do is to do *just* enough work and then leave the rest for the next day (or days - I got enough oil to fill ten barrels on the first day) rather than working as hard as you can each day. Was that intended?
I like what's here, though, and I think I'd like to play this game again after some more playtesting and bug fixes.
Thank you for playing!! We definitely ran out of time to playtest the game fully so this is very enlightening bugs that we plan to fix! I think what we have is a realized version of what we wanna do, just a simple game loop as we plan on moving forward with different projects! Very great feedback, and much appreciated!
good controls, but in the can area the hitboxes were bad and i couldnt do anything, also i couldnt figure out how to do anything. but great music overall
The theme twist is great and the visuals plus the oil loop make the idea stand out. Some parts are a bit slow and a few controls need clearer hints, but the core is fun and the vibe is strong. (pls play my game)
Love the theme! Making oil is hard work -- no wonder it's so expensive! I was able to figure out how everything pretty quickly. I just wish the platform wasn't so large!
A pretty interesting game with nice graphics! It could use a few more hints to help players understand all the different parts of the oil extraction process.
The sound design fits the vibe of the game really well.
I couldn't really figure out the controls in order to complete the quota, was also a lil slow when walking on the deck. But it has clear visuals and nice music.
