How does your game meet GBJam's theme
My thought was cheese. Some cheeses take a long time to ripen. And the most fun idea I had was that you are a mouse searching for cheese on an island.

I didn't understand how the game worked at first, however after watching the cover gif it made a lot more sense and I was able to find the cheese! Great job on the game! The digging felt kind of tedious at times but that was kind of due to the constraints of the jam.

Unfortunately, I read the comment about the ending sequence too late :(

I finished the game and really enjoyed it! The concept is very interesting and unique, and it fits the game jam theme quite well. The game itself captures the vibe of Game Boy titles.

However, I didn't quite understand how the cells with two poles are counted.

I do feel like a few puzzles are broken because I got pointed to a tile that was already dug up and showed info. The idea of the game is cool and so far unique, it is a digging game, but has its own digging gimick.

Sadly the fonts and sprites do break the resolution constraints that we have for the jam. The art would be okay though otherwise.

SFX were okay, mx I did not notice, so unless it is very quite it is absent.

Overall sadly break some rules, but the game mechanic is cool.

Thanks for the feedback.

I’m currently looking into the digging spots. I think there is a calculation error with the rounding.

The music is absent for a good reason. It would break the rules of this jam, so it will be added later after the rating session is over.

Lastly, regarding the resolution constraints, I thought my canvas was set to 160×144, as well as the screen. Why it is showing up differently is also a good guess for me.

Really cute game, I liked the idea of searching around the island and digging for cheese. The visuals and UI feels very Gameboy and exploring the map was pretty fun. Nice use of the theme too!

Clever mechanic! The visuals reminded me a lot of Link's Awakening on the Gameboy, which was one of my favorites as a kid.

I love it! It felt like I was playing Mickey Mouse on his journey to find his piece of cheese :D I just miss having background music. Keep going!

Digging felt great, and the game feel is very Gameboy like! The idea of being a mouse and searching for that "old gold" of cheese is very cute! Good job!

It took me an embarassingly long time to understand the mechanics but once I did it was very fun! Very cool idea, I was able to find all the treasure in the end :D It was a hard to know how many tiles I had walked though, so I ended up digging a lot of holes as a way of counting the tiles. I think if the player moved 1 tile at a time it would make counting a lot easier. It was also hard to find the vistas sometimes, especially the ones in the middle of the island as it's quite "zoomed in" so it's hard to know where you are. Apart from that it was a great little GB game! Good job 👍

Definitely hits the GB vibes, especially the UI part. Would definitely spice up the game with some music though, but still well done!

Developer

Yo, thanks for your comment!

I’ll look into adding music after the jam. Then I can add it to the game.

hello! I really enjoyed the graphics as it brings back the old school gameboy experience. What is really cool is the concept of navigation/vista points in this game, that is so creative!

One thing to note, is to make sure to update the browser settings. It was a bit hard to play at the current settings, so I had to zoom in a ton.

Developer

Yeah. I was a little bit obsessed with the screen size to make it truly feel like the Game Boy. I’ll make it bigger after the game jam.

Digging for treasure really hits the “Old Gold” theme, and the black-and-white graphics bring me back to the original Game Boy. I also really like the scale of the character to the world. It’s interesting visually and feels like it would be easy on the eyes on an original DMG.

Please update the browser settings! I had to change things around to see the full game. Either enabling fullscreen or setting the game resolution to 480 × 432 would make it much easier to play in the browser.

Feels at home on a Game Boy.

Developer

First of all thank you.

I was a little bit obsessed with setting the screen size to match the Game Boy’s size. I had it set to full screen, but I disabled it. I’ll make it larger after the game jam because I don’t know if I can change it now or if it’s allowed.

P.S. There is a bug where digging up the last treasure doesn't bring you to the end screen. If this happens, just press space on an empty spot to dig again and it will go to the end screen.
