This game is good. But I think the movement of the player felt bit too old early computer esque than a Game Boy game.

Developer(+1)

That's a fair point. Thanks for playing :)

Also please double check that you rated the game - I noticed the number of ratings didn't go up.

I tried to find the submit rating button on Tower Digfense and the others. I had no idea how I was supposed to rate the games?

Edit: Never mind, I found out that I was supposed to test out three games to rate first before rating the other games. So I just submitted a rating for yours.

Thank youuu!

this seems heavily inspired by Dome Keeper but you all did a great job with it. the gameplay is smooth and the graphics are nicely done! the music is pretty short and repetitive, but it didn’t get tiring to me, so that’s a plus.

however, Dome Keeper has a few elements that really add tension and challenge to it that you’ve left out:

  • you have to actually make your way back up to the top to manually defend your dome. with the weapons being on autofire in this, i didn’t need to go back up top when the aliens attacked. i could just keep digging and go up when i had enough money to get a new upgrade. not only was this a lot easier, but i think it’s kind of a shame because it meant i missed the aliens attacking most of the time and i barely got to see the cool looking UFOs you made.
  • it would have been nice to have a loud audio signal when the timer was ticking down to zero and when it hits zero. a change in the music that adds some intensity there would also be cool. but again, since you don’t really need to defend yourself, this wasn’t total necessary.
  • you have to carry the resources back up to the top and you move slower as you carry more resources. there’s always this tension in the gameplay in Dome Keeper because you have to decide whether you want to pick up one more resource and inch your way back up to the top or just leave it and come back for it later.

obviously, this is a game jam and i don’t expect you to be making a full commercial game like Dome Keeper. i just thought i’d point out how these elements really can add a lot to the gameplay. again, well done on the game!

Hi, really appreciate the response! I agree that we’ve skipped over the elements of Dome Keeper that makes it such a nerve-racking game at times. I love the first two points that you highlighted and we probably aim to implement those in the near future. As for other ways to add tension and challenge to the game, we will also look forward to exploring that. Again, thanks for your feedback, have a nice one!

cool! i hope you all keep working on it.
one more suggestion:
you all should consider adding screenshots and a bit of color/theming to your page! i really think it helps convince others to play your game if they can see how it looks first.

Developer(+1)

Done! Thanks for the suggestion :)

I had a blast with this one and felt like the gameplay loop was really well executed! If this was a bigger game with various enemy types, upgrades, playstyles, etc. I could really see this being a game I would come back to!

Developer (1 edit)

That's awesome to hear, thanks!

There's definitely a lot of potential in expanding in all those areas.

The gameplay is so good ! I played the endless mode and I would totally see this as a true gameboy game

Developer

We are happy to hear you liked it! :)

very fun, reminds me a lot of ways to dome keeper which has been one of my favorite games to chill out and relax with, the mining mechanics were so great i was left wanting a bit of a freeplay option just to get a just little more

Developer

Great to hear you liked it :)

Well done! Cute little game, great to play.

Thank you so much

Great little Motherlode inspired digging game! I liked it, like a lot. I finished only the story mode, but It was very enjoyable. Only thing to nitpick is that the invading aliens part was kinda disconnected from the mining part, first time I upgraded something related to defence was during wave 3 I think. Besides that it was great, I would love to see this as a full fledged game!

Developer

Thanks for playing.

Very good point. We should somehow require the player to go to the surface during alien waves, and probably make the waves harder earlier.

Heys, really liked this, i’d played it past endless to get all of the upgrades. the upgrades for the drill certainly felt satisfying to get. I can certainly feel the Dome Keeper influence and it was nice.

Developer

Thanks for playing and commenting. Really cool you got all the upgrades!
