How does your game meet GBJam's theme
When I thought of my own 'old gold' and what I myself treasure the most, it is most definitely all the crafts and art I collected from super talented artists and what I myself made over the years. I also happened to have just read up about crabs a lot, so here is a weird combination of the two, enjoy! :)

Really nice game!

The gameplay loop is pretty fun. The graphics and music are neat too!

I just didn't liked the quiz part, but it's alright xD

Great game. Congrats!!!

Gameplay, graphics, and soundtrack were all great! Definitely can see playing this on an o.g. Gameboy! I like the theme too. Good job!

I must have missed a crab somewhere because I only had 4/5 at the end, but I finished it!  Had trouble jumping from the Level 3 area to the platform above it for some reason... until I suddenly stopped having trouble doing it.  (And, as someone else said, the spike hit boxes were somewhat unforgiving, which was really only a major issue in the Tiger Shark level).  That "final battle" threw me entirely off, and it took me a few tries (and some guesswork) to get through it, but it was a nice change of pace from the frankly-stressful Tiger Shark level. :D  All in all, fun!

Platforming feels really smooth and the art and atmosphere are lovely. That shark chase!

Wow, basically everything in this game was great! It's impressive how well-rounded of a game this is, from the presentation, responsive movement, charm, sound, and overall charm. The difficulty made it really accessible without being trivial, and each level had a fun gimmick that set them apart from the others. Excellent work!

I'm not very good at this game and the full restarts felt a little punishing but I managed to free the first level's crab before dying by jumping into the void. I may give this another go later, I'm intrigued by the what the other commenters found in further levels.

Love the music, relaxing and whimsical. The diagonal tile wipe transitions are really unique, I haven't seen other entries use something like that.

Had an issue where the jump input binds suddenly stopped working. It seems to be a quirk related how Linux Mint treats the Alt key. I use arrow keys and ZX but alt-tabbed out to check on something. Not really a big deal, just something I haven't experienced before.

Pretty good job! Makes a lot of fun playin it. The shark took me some trys :D

Thank you so much! Yeah I am so glad I made that one optional to move on, should have let someone else playtest instead of myself 20 times hahah

Heya just rated this, had fun playing it and I love the color scheme, the REVERSE theme of NOT getting the silver (and choosing silver because it makes sense for this palette). Lots to love, fantastic art, the gameplay is minimal since its double jump and interact, but the overall concept and the trial was  extremely charming :)

Developer

Thank you so so much for the nice comment, I really appreciate it! Also yeah hahah the silver coins were indeed because of the pallete, also so glad you find it charming, lots of love went into it! :)

Not guilty! Wahoo!!

Fun and cute. My only real gripe was that it felt too difficult to avoid the spikes because of the hurtboxes. Maybe just a skill issue though. :)

Developer

Nice, well done, and thank you so much! Also definitely get you, the hitboxes were just a little too unforgiving, don't think that was a skill issue sadly hahah

Great little game! The atmosphere is really well done. I didn't understand the crab court at all, but it was fun!

Developer

Thank you so much, glad it was fun regardless! Was planning to add a lot more lore about the court and story but I ran out of time

Very nice and smooth gameplay experience. This plays like a fine platformer and you have full control over your character.  The level design was actually very competent, with the shark chasing level being a definite standout. There were a couple of quirks, like moving your character while the camera is still on the boss but all in all a very enjoyable playthrough.

For the alloted time and constraints put upon us, I feel like this is well on the way to becoming an actual game. And a very good one at that.

Great art ! The tiger fish scares me !!

Developer

Thank you so much, hoping the tigershark did not instill TOO much fear!

Nice inversion, opening on greed driving everyone to the sea floor and then making the thing you want a handmade sponge hat turns the theme into an argument. and the in world hints listing all three key options for each button is a considerate touch. nice job

I'm so so bad at platformers (I'm still fighting the first level--I WILL free that crab) but this is so delightful it's got me hooked. Best gameplay features: 1) must get hat back is maybe the best goal ever and 2) coins bad, maybe??? (not sure what the consequence is but I'm deathly afraid of finding out). The pixel art is absolutely amazing and I adore the crab sprite, especially the double jump-claws up detail. Great game, thanks so much for sharing it!

Update: I freed the crab! Had to throw in the towel on the tiger shark level (but wow was that a cool chase) because I kept dying on the first three spikes haha, but carried on through the other two levels (if that's the right word for those?). Loved the ending sequence so much (excellent crab facts btw). Again, great work!
